Hey everyone,
I've been in the market for a new monitor, 22inch + and came across a seemingly sweet deal for the Acer x243w from office depot for $279. Amazing price, but I'm pretty picky. I bought it cause it was the last day of the sale and they offer 14 day no hassle returns.

Back story...
I've been using a viewsonic vx2025wm and have really enjoyed the performance with it; using a 7800go 256mb card in my laptop. (fiance gets the vx2025 cause her monitor sux and I want 22in+)

So, I get the acer and its cool, really big and inexpensive. Super bright but it just doesn't seem as good as the vx2025wm.
I totally dont know what to look for in a monitor.

I'd like a 22in+ for around $300 that looks as good or better than the vx2025.

Before seeing the acer for sale so cheap, I had my sights on the viewsonic vx2240. Its around $280.

Anyone here have opinions or think i'm crazy either way?
Any input would really help me out.

Hi man,

Here is a little 'tutorial' of sorts that will leave you with a lot more insight into the technology:

PS: I've been a dealer for many years and have found Viewsonic to be one of the most unreliable products I've ever sold... Spent more time with RMAs on their products... Arrg! Quit selling them eight or nine years ago.

Thanks for the reply and the lesson link, its very helpful to complete novices like myself.

Now, besides looking at specs, anyone have opinions on what works best, what they have used?

The acer x243w i got has pretty good specs but I swear it doesnt look as nice as the vx2025w I got right next to it. DVD, pictures and games just look slightly better on the vx2025wm.

Acer LCDs seem to be more oriented to the budget/value market. They appear to have lower price points overall. Even so, the AL2216wbd appears to be VERY popular at Newegg.

Viewsonic seems to be well known for higher-end, higher-performing LCDs (but, of course, they have a budget line as well). My vx2240x doesn't arrive until Wednesday so I can't comment on it yet. Here's one of the reviews that helped me with my decision.

It seems as though there's no easy decisions regarding LCDs. Even "pro" reviews of the same LCD can be "all over the place" in their judgement of "quality". Sometimes it boils down to the actual LCD you picked off the shelf - it can be great or a turd.

Does this have any relevance to today's line of Viewsonic LCDs? In their defense, I'd have to say I started using them back in the late 90's for almost every CRT/LCD I've owned and have zero complaints.

Thanks for that link desertjedi, very good info there.

From there i found the side-by-side comparisons with nearly any recent lcd monitor and am still up in the air for what i think I want.

You're not crazy. The vx2025 is a great little monitor. It used a P-MVA panel, so you can expect better colors with its 8 bit display rather than the 6 bit TN panel in your Acer. Sadly, the 6 bit TN vx2240 may not looks as good as vx2025 either.

I'm sorry to have tell you this, but your symptoms indicate that you have a higher than normal sensitivity to accurate image display.

You might, unknowingly, have become a LCD panel snob.

Too bad. It can be an expensive illness to treat. To find out for sure, you could have a look at the $369 Westy L2410NM MVA monitor. If you like it and your disease hasn't advanced to the final IPS stage, you could go on to live a normal life.

Otherwise, your next step in treatment will start in the $600 plus range. If you're lucky. Most can't find 24 inches of relief under a thousand.

We here at Hard Forum wish you a speedy and affordable recovery.

I have a Viewsonic Q20wb, and the back light bleeds through a lot. . . This is probably the budget line the other poster mentioned.
