After many years of reliable gaming, my Ati 9700pro passed away last night. I was trying to make it last until I had enough cash for a pci-x setup. So I am here asking you all what you think of these two cards:

or stay with the lower price

XFX 6600GT- $146

I am trying the cheapside so I do not cut into my new rig's budget. Hopefully getting a 7800GT and this will have to last about 6-9 months. My rig is currently ECS 865pe, P4 3ghz Prescott, 1gig OCZ Performance Series 3500 ddr, SB Audigy 2. Any thoughts, opinions, or experiences with these cards would be appreciated.

The pro is clocked higher. Thanks for the heads up ClearM4.

acidic, I believe from what i read, the 6600gt can be clocked to match the 6800nu in most games. The GS, is only pci-x as far as I have seen. :(

thats not the point for a 6800nu, its the possiblity of unlocking/oc to match a 6800gt is why i recommend it

If I were you instead of the 6600gt I'd pick up a 6800gs for ~ 210.

Some amazing performance as well as oc'ing room.

and I hate it when people say that "no games really use 3.0."
of course it isn't necessary, but there are performance as well as image quality boosts to be had.
here is a list of the games using 3.0. some really big names on that list.

6800GS is not offered in AGP. Since this is your last upgrade before going PCI-E and your only going to keep the card for 6-9 months, I'd say keep your expense as low as possible and get the 6600GT.

oh wow...usually i'm pointing that out to people...now i feel like a jackass :(

I totally agree with batman; if you're planning on upgrading that soon, why bother paying much. just grab the 6600gt; it'll give you good enough performance until you're ready for a new rig.

Get the 6600GT AGP in the FS/FT area for ~$110 or so.
Personally, I got the 6600GT PCI-E to keep expenses (and depreciation :p ) to a minimum to wait for the gaming season (either Dec or next summer).

Have a sale pending on a BFG 6800GT OC from the For Sale/Trade forums. :)

i wouldnt buy a new card but would rather buy a used one like others have mentioned ;)
