I figured I was more likely to get a response in here than in the OS forums.

Anyway I have previously had OI working perfectly as a FC based SAN, the only problem was the array was too slow to host my VMware disks.

I've now upgraded to a SAS array and have an HP P400 card installed. In OI, Package Manager is showing the card/driver as Misconfigured. I think this is due to the CPQARY driver being very out of date in OI. I've tried everything to update CPQARY but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone have any clue on how to update CPQARY?

Cheers

SM

p.s. all the hardware is passed through to the OI VM via DirectPath.

I would
- use one of the card all other uses like a LSI 9211 or IBM 1015 (flashed to IT mode)
- maybee try OmniOS (newer Illumos base, supports more hardware)

If a controller is not supported out of the box: do not try to use
If the controller is not a LSI HBA or compatible: avoid

I'm trying OmniOS but it seems to have a problem with the P400 at boot at the moment, will investigate further.

I have a PERC5i I can try. This is a home build so I can't afford to go out and buy an LSI card as much as I'd like to! The IBM card doesn't seem to appear on eBay much in the UK at a good price.

Does ZFS on Linux use COMSTAR and is it ok with FC?

Thanks for the replies so far.

It does not use COMSTAR.

SCST has an FC target for QLogic cards that works very well. I serve FC targets to my HyperV hosts. My HyperV hosts are actually diskless and boot from the ZoL SAN.
