Remember when this site first came out and everyone said the same thing, "what if they get hacked?" I guess we're all going to find out now.

Large caches of data stolen from online cheating site AshleyMadison.com have been posted online by an individual or group that claims to have completely compromised the company’s user databases, financial records and other proprietary information. The still-unfolding leak could be quite damaging to some 37 million users of the hookup service, whose slogan is “Life is short. Have an affair.”

I wonder how many actually signed up with their real names and normal email addresses? Seems to me that for something of that nature you'd want to use a fake name with a specialized and unknown email account just for that purpose.

You underestimate human stupidity. Signing up for a service like that at all demonstrates a considerable lack of intelligence. If they actually worried about a paper trail, they wouldn't be doing it in the first place.

Well considering they stole financial information, I wouldn't be surprised if that's also user CC data.

Even if they do shut down, someone else will just build a better one anyway.

Well everybody that signed up should've known that it's Always a matter of when not if.

Hi, My Name is Richard, Richard Head.

I'm 41, a successful Dentist and I would like to have an affair. Please do not use any of this information to blackmail me.

Thanks,

D.H.

I'm sure my info will make it out there at some point. There is no financial data, but my email and contact information are probably there. My slut ex-wife used my information to sign me up for this site when it first started so she could claim that I was the one having an extra-marital affair during our messy divorce. It didn't really work out for her since I had pictures to use against her, but it still chaps my ass that my information might still be attached to this garbage.

Dude, thank god you dodged that bullet! WTF!

Scam letter said:
Dir XYZ,

We caught you spouse cheating on you on Ashley Madison. To see details pay $40.00 to...

Meanwhile an innocent faithful spouse gets a beat down for being a sucker in a scam.

So you had pictures of your wife being a whore?

I wish they'd just hack it and release it, but by playing the blackmail card they throw out any semblence of doing something for the good of the world. I'm sure there are plenty of very wealthy people on this list that would be willing to pay big money to suppress it though.

lol, can't wait for the moralizing blowhards to be exposed as hypocrites.

People are dumb for a variety of reasons when it comes to fidelity within a relationship. One of the most basic principals for why is simply laid bear at the altar of opportunity. If you have the opportunity to cheat without ramifications, or at least mentally justify in your mind that there won't be any, then odds are, you will do it.

To what end? So you can point your finger and call someone a hypocrite and feel better about yourself while you conduct any number of hypocritical acts over your lifetime as well? I never understood this particular human trait of pointing out the misdeeds of others while you puff yourself up as being one without misdeeds.

There was no good being done for the world or anyone else by the hackers. You think releasing names of adults acting in a consensual manner in their own best interests is good for the world? Wealthy people don't need to go to sites like Ashley Madison for their sexual fixations. It's too public and if they do, still, it's no one elses business.

I came in here thinking it was a site for game cheats that got hacked.

Well there's one person that's not too worried about his information being out there: Bill Clinton.

I might be on there, there was a time when I signed up for several of those just to peek. Won't get much from me, unless they figured out I wasnt actually Bob Barker.

Meanwhile Bob Barker is going to get extortion threats against him. He'll have you to thank for that! :)

This site wasn't a porn site, it was for arranging affairs. That's not consensual behavior and it *is* other people's business. Not [H] forum's News section and members, in general, but it's certainly not *no one's* business.

Not consensual behavior? A: I want to fuck her B: I want to fuck him. That's consensual behavior. Again he's correct, it's no one's business what others are doing. I certainly don't give a shit if A is fucking B all while he or she is fucking C at the same time giving the impression that they're serious. When it comes to the Top Secret classifications, it might be a issue say you're getting fucked by a Russian agent and extorted for National Security secrets.

An affair is non-consensual by definition. You don't care whether someone is cheating on his or her spouse, and I pointed out it's none of *your* business already. But that's a different thing from it being none of anyone's business.

The spouse certainly has a right to know, as do any courts where such behavior is illegal, and you will probably change your tune when your sex partner brings you home some HPV.

By definition? Where the hell do you get that from? A Christian dictionary? Please do point out to me what dictionary is literally defining an affair as a non-consensual relationship.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/affair
"a secret sexual relationship between two people"

Being in an explicit, or implicit, monogamous relationship with one person then entering a relationship with another person is pretty clear that it is non-consensual to the unaware partner, regardless of your moral beliefs on it; not sure how you can argue otherwise.

no, from common sense which you apparently lack

if someone is having an "affair" then he or she is cheating on another person in the relationship

there are examples of ethical non-monogamy and "affairs" are not part of the picture.

you seem awfully caught up in defending cheaters

Because that's not the intent. It has nothing to do with making yourself feel better. It's reveling in the misery of others who are exposed as hypocrites or for other misdeeds. German has a perfect word for it: schadenfreude.

Again, two parties that agrees to have a sexual or non-sexual relationship is consensual. The implications of any relationship may or may not matter to other parties that are involved. There are people who are not married but do engage in sexual relationship for fear of it being known ie gay men who are pretty prominent. An extramarital affair however is a different definition altogether which it is without the spouse of one or more parties knowing what is going on. However we do not have laws on adultery anymore and good riddance to those. The fact is that you think I'm defending "cheaters" when I'm not. You're just throwing in non-consensual into something that doesn't exist. The wife of a cheating husband or reverse may not even find out so consent was not even necessary in the end. That's for the court to decide, not you, not the public.
