If the 128 GB version price doesn't rise much I guess I could buy one (I'd get it free from my employer).

Image 29 isn't the 5T. Looks like the Xioami Mix 2 judging by the bezels (large bottom bezel gives it away).

Hopefully they had the brightness not turned up or this is some sort of issue with the camera shots. A screen that dim would be horrid in sunlight.

Samsung OLED's haven't been dim for several years now. Even if Oneplus picked up older panels, they'll be plenty bright.

Oreo update coming by end of 2017 Per Android Central. So that's a plus. Should have shipped with Oreo but I could wait a month or so, that's not a deal breaker

Plenty of OnePlus 5T unboxings showing up on YouTube butost are in Hindi as apparently India is a huge market for OnePlus.

Here is one in English if you need to see more about it...

I would not bank on anything OnePlus says as they are all about #HYPE but not so good about following up on it.

If you have followed OnePlus from the start with the One you would realize how incorrect that statement is.

I've been interested in them for some time but yeah this is the first time I've actually considered buying. 5T launch has room for error after the non-stop disaster launch of the Pixel 2 XL.

OnePlus has a short but storied history of saying one thing and doing another.

Their fearless leader Carl Pei just likes to say he didn't promise"xxxxxxx" (insert what you like) and then he acts like it never happened.

If the camera is an important feature for you, don't expect much as OnePlus has not quite figured out the software/processing end of things. The hardware has been decent but lack of OIS and software has kept the camera from being as good as the rest of the phone.

Concerns with OnePlus data collection erupted a little while ago and OnePlus said they would address it but who knows may have been the most widely publicized recent issue but that seems to have settled down now.

Best bet is root and flash a custom ROM so that you control the software experience as the hardware experience has generally been top tier if not better than flagships (other than the camera).

Only real change from the 5 to 5T will be the screen and rear sensor. I've pretty much ruled out picking up a 5T, now. Not enough "there" there for me to justify the move from my 5, which is working great for me.

I'm just hoping the 5 keeps falling on Swappa. They are below $400 and should drop some more after the 5T releases on the 21st.

Great phone to play around with Android on if you don't care about or need the best camera.

I don't want to sound like I hate OnePlus or every Chinese copycat manufacturer, but making money off your personal info and creating backdoors/releasing security flaws before the patch gets released is what Google has been doing for years!

Is this "backdoor / root" issue going to cause anyone to walk away? I'm probably still in for a 5T. Wondering what the rest of you are thinking today.

After my initial enthusiasm, I decided to pass on the 5T because it just doesn't offer enough to convince me it's worth the jump from the 5. This latest news, in addition to the disclosure of OP secretly collecting user data, has dimmed my perception of the company. I like my 5 a lot, and with a custom ROM blocking any data collection, plan to stick with it for a while.

Yeah if I had a perfectly working OP 5 in hand I'd probably be content with that. I've had it with my iPhone 7 plus, I gotta get something else.

There really is no benefit in going to the 5T except the smaller bezels. Early camera reports seem to make the camera on the 5T worse than on the 5.

    https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/oneplus-5t-camera-review-heise-t3704247

    https://m.heise.de/ct/artikel/OnePlu...r-3887487.html

Heise.de is one very serious german tech site and they say that since other sites already broke the NDA they dont feel obliged to hold information back.
To make it short: camera does not get better, low light performance gets even worse.

Long version: The camera setup (still WITHOUT OIS!) will be 16+20 mp again BUT the 20 mp sensor this time won't work as telephoto lens. Also aperture changes from f/2.6 to also f/1.7 like the 16 mp main snapper. Pixel size of the 20 mp sensor stays at 1.0 um. This sensor will, despite its crazily small pixel size, automatically work as low light shooter when light levels drop below 3.5 lux, making pictures look even worse than with the 16 mp sensor.

The Software does NOT use both sensors to combine the picture information like it is the case for other phones. Thus, picture quality does not seem to improve compared to the OP 5.

My comment: This really doesnt seem to make any sense. Why not put in a sensor with bigger pixels if you want a lowlight specific unit? Why take one with even smaller pixels? Wtf!? Did they have too many of those crappy 20mp sensor left over? Or why not at least use both sensors to combine the two die pics? Or why not just use the fabulous sensor that the s8/pixel2 uses and put an OIS in it? This is so stupid oneplus, i just dont get it..

Furthermore: Usb will again be 2.0.
    2015 all over again..

As the one who started this thread, the irony is not lost to me that the phone I really want is the new HTC U11 Plus. ;)

I hope to find a way to import it. So far, Aliexpress is the only place I've seen it. Not sure I'm willing to trust them with $800. Hopefully, it'll be available elsewhere soon.

Same for me on the 5T. If I can't get an HTC U11 Plus, I, too, will see if the V30 can be rooted. Still thinking about trying another Pixel 2 XL. In the end, it could be that I just stick with my OP5 until next year.

I am out. The Camera is important to me and if its worse than the 5 which was pretty average I will stick with my S7 edge

559 € for the 8GB/128GB version here in Finland. I think I'll be buying one (through work).

Some YT videos of the 5T...

Looks pretty good, but I'll stick with my 5. The 6 will be my next OP phone, if I get another OP phone.

The fact they kept it the same price makes it tempting for me.

I'm going to wait until January to see if any dealbreakers appear. If it can use GCam like the OP5 could then the picture quality will be at least up to par. Reports are the Samsung AMOLED looks great (as expected) so just have to wait for battery life reports.

Also, the screen is mounted right side up this time around: http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/1...erted-unlikely-suffer-jelly-scrolling-effect/

For $499 hard to find a better brand new phone at that price.

Yes the Pixel 2 XL is better, but is it almost double the price better at $950 ? HELL NO.

I just got the V30 from T-Mobile that I Pixel'lized with the Pixel 2 launcher, Google Phone app, Google Calendar, Google everything, and this V30 is smoking good.

But if I didn't just get the V30 I'd ABSOLUTELY get the OnePlus 5t

How's the battery life on the LG? There are some new, unopened V30s on Swappa for $600 that are very tempting.

Be careful, only the H930 and US998 are bootloader unlocked. None of the carrier versions nor the dual-sim model can be bootloader unlocked and rooted. Too bad because I'd be running out to buy the H930DS (dual sim) if it were bootloader unlocked.

Battery life reports are medium. Nothing spectacular but still solid (as all the SD835 phones are).

Battery life has been fantastic. All the reviews put the OnePlus 5 and V30 at the top of most the YouTube tech review channels for best battery life phones of 2017. The V30 is always in the top 3 for battery.

It just destroys my old Nexus 6P battery life, by nearly double. I can say the V30 will easily get you 6h Screen On time.

Maybe not as good as S8+ battery life, but very close. When I had the S8+ I was getting 7h SOT.

Sounds like OnePlus Samsung should have hooked up with Samsung camera implementation once they were already sourcing Samsung screens if they want to compete with the Flagship phones and not just selling a good phone at a good price.

Some early reports on 5T camera lead to the inevitable conclusion that the camera again will be less than flagship quality.

    From Android Cental:

    https://www.androidcentral.com/oneplus-5t-vs-samsung-galaxy-s8?amp

The jury is still largely out on the OnePlus 5T's camera — we'll have to wait until a full review — but in my brief time testing it, results are mixed.

In daylight, the photos are nigh identical to the OnePlus 5 — as they should be, since the two phones share the same 16MP sensor. But at night, results vary. They're supposed to be better than the 5 thanks to a 20MP RGB sensor that's optimized for low light, but in our early testing, they're merely good, not great.

Still, the OnePlus 5T, with its second sensor (that forgoes the telephoto focal distance of its predecessor in favor of low light optimization) can do portrait photography, and the results are much better than when the 5 came out earlier this year.

This improvement is more due to software optimizations than any inherent hardware advantages, but it's still significant.

I'll let some of the images speak for themselves, but at this point, it's unclear whether OnePlus's gambit to improve low-light capture will pay off; the phone only switches to its secondary camera when the sensor detects light of 10 Lux or less, which is almost pitch black. And given that the second sensor has more pixels than the main one, with smaller individual pixels to capture light against an f/1.7 lens, I'm not sure it was the right decision.
