I know, Infinity, Ninja, Tuniq, Ultra 120 or???

But, what I want to know prior to purchase is
which is easier to mount?
Which cools best and is quietest out of the box with included fan?

Tuniq... Its not the easiest to install but most hsf that are good these days arent easy either.....

I'd say Ultra 120, simply becasue it doesn't come with a fan, so you can choose a fan to your liking. the Scythe Infinity fan isn't bad either. Very quiet.

tuniq and ninja are up at the top when it comes to performance. remember to look at what your case can fit though, if you have a small case some of those might be too big.

the tuniq is huge.... atleast thats what she said.

I vote for Tuniq! I replaced a Zalman 7000CU with it and it is unbelievable how quiet and well it cools....

The stock mounting mechanism (push pins) on the Infinity are poor; i'd cross that one off straight away unless you can be bothered to mod it. My favourite has got to be the Thermalright Ultra-120: it has a good mounting mechanism (with backplate), ability to chose your own fan and it has smaller dimensions than the Tuniq Tower.

Scythe Infinity is actually easy to mount, it has stock HST mounting mechanism. If you want a silent fan, get any low rpm ones <2000 and use 5V trick to connect it or controller if you have it.

It might be easy to mount, but it doesn't mean the mounting mechanism is good. On a cooler of that size and weight, i doubt the strength of those push pins.

either the tuniq or the ultra 120. the ultra 120 might be the better as previously said, since you can pair it with a 120mm fan of your choice.

Ultra 120. They have a newer version now which drops temps some more and I've heard that with enough cooling you can almost make it passive, though I wouldn't try it.

I own 120 and I love it! But you could put a quiet low RPM fan on there and be fine. :)

I will vote for Tuniq too. Although as said above it is a pain in the arse to install and good luck if you have to take the back plate off your mobo....

okay so there is the thing... they are all good... the ones you listed are all the top HSFs and you cannot go wrong with any of them... maybe 1 might be 1-2*C cooler or one might be a little louder... so you should check out reviews from either Hardocp or http://www.overclockersclub.com/

This one is good also

this one for noise level

or someone that has owned and used all of them and can compair them to each other in a quatitative way. We here have not individually owned every HSF and therefore can only give you qualitative data.... aka opinions.

so read reviews that compare cooling and DBAs of each of them and then make a choice...

thanks for the info
Looks like Tuniq or U120
I want the best mounting so it looks like Tuniq,

is it quiet with stock fan?
Tuniq owners??? <<<

Best mounting and quite operations?

Thermalright Ultra 120! Best part is that you get to choose your own fan. If you choose an LED fan, it can be seen and it will look very cool.

The Tuniq has the fan right in the middle so no fan can be seen, LED or not.

Also, lots of tuniqs come with easily breakable screws (heads).

I have owned both the ultra 120 and the Tuniq Tower.

i would vote for the Tuniq, however around here its non-existent and impossible to get. i'ld much rather get the U120 Extreme (or the funky IFX-4 something or other if it proves to be a top notch cooler)

How about the infinity? any owners of Infinity love/hate it?

Had a friend who recently purchased for a C2D setup. He hated it and bought a big typhoon. The base wasn't in good condition at all and he was getting worse than stock temps.

Of course that's a lemon, a lot of people like the infinity but most I've heard of don't. Most people I've talked to opt for the Tuniq or Ultra.

Any heatsink with a low-speed Noctua 120mm fan.

Indeed, those Noctuas are sick.

And Btw, why haven't you looked at the Noctua? That's supposed to be a great heatsink! It's comparable and quite competitive with the one listed. :)

The Tuniq is quiet at 'Low' setting. 24/7 @ 3220mhz no need to max the fan even gaming. Yes the screw heads will tear off when forced too tight. It's meant to be hand tightened, it's good once it is heavy to turn. If it stops turning and you give it some more, it will snap like its a safety feature.

cept when you try to use the thumbscrew to screw it in, and it pops off before getting halfway though... Not only that, but it sucks that I have to run to the store to buy super glue just to glue the thumbcap back in place.

The new Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme offers the highest performance and lowest noise compared to the Tuniq Tower when paired with the right fan. The Scythe S-Flex 1600rpm is what Anandtech used and it performed at a lower dBm. The Ultra 120 Extreme actually sort of spanked the Tuniq Tower at the end of the load test at the higher overclocks.

I ordered one for myself today with the Scythe S-Flex 1600rpm.

Infinity w. 2000 rpm TT fan, pentium D [email protected] GHz load 50 degrees, @4.0 GHz load 45 degrees. I think the mounting mechanism is easy to install but it requires some force to achieve proper contact. The grip is fine btw...

But its best to perform the mounting mod found on xtremesystems, or else the Infinity won't make enough pressure with the IHS

thx for the tip, I might try that next time I need to apply thermal paste .

after reading the review @ anandtech I couldn't resist buying this. 70 dollars :(. the worst part is this jab-tech place is in oklahoma, only about 20 miles from me. The bad thing is I still had to ship it, and pay tax. Bleh no pickups. Anyway, I'll have to come back and post if it does well :).

Lookin' forward to it! What HSF were you using previously to compare it to?

Don't for get to look Enzotech Ultra X, on low speeds this fan cools as good as any and better than most. I have one and run the fan at 1350rpms and get very good results.
