Once you go Lian Li ......you never go back...

It doesn't take a genius to figure out the quality difference between a Geo and a Mustang, does it? Well I've owned various cases over the years, and I can say the LL is on Mustang level, and judging just from seeing that case at LANs, I can say it is not up to par with my LL. Geo maybe was a bit harsh, I have to give it props for a mobo tray, but it still can't have the build quality of a LL, otherwise they'd charge more and make more profit!!! ;)

So what your saying is the LL case will fall apart after a year?

not necessarily, I hate Lian-Lis, and would never put together another system inside of one.
I can't stand my praetorian, either. Something about the look of these pcs just isn't that great.

I'm with you. Overpriced thin ass aluminum doesn't impress me. While some of the cases have a great layout I am overall not that impressed.

A friend of mine at work has that one really deep Lian-Li with the carbon fiber crap on the top of it. (It came that way) and the layout is spectacular. It looks great inside and out. But Lian-Li chose to use those crappy folded over metal tab standoffs that twist and pop out when you put a screw threw them. Those kind of standoffs are for the cheapo $20 cases from Fry's. Honestly I expect more out of a case manufacturer than that. Especially for any case over $100.

Personally I think the CoolerMaster Stacker is the best case made thus far. Does EATX boards, ATX, boards and BTX too. Plus it has 11 5 1/4 drive bays, great cooling layout. All the front covers are mesh so that air flows freely. It supports dual PSU's. Theres enough room to physically add a second one and theres a mount for it. Plus it comes with a splitter that allows your power switch to activate both PSU's at the same time. It's almost completley tooless. It has a 3 for 4 drive enclosure that installs in the 5 1/4 bays for the 3.5 drives. It's cooled with a 120mm fan and has rubber shock pads between the rails and the actual case. The case feels extremely high quality. All in all I can't say enough good things about it. Seriously it's the only case that impressed me enough to switch from my Antec cases.

Theres enough room for internally mounting all your watercooling stuff without difficulty, It's easy to hide wires in. Comes in a variety of colors. From an asthetic point of view it's great. The exterior is brushed aluminium and the interior is all 1.0mm steel.

The downside to this case is that it's heavy. But if you need room for serious cooling and or an Opteron or Xeon system, SLi'ed video cards or anything else you can think of, this case is about the best.

An all aluminium version would be nice for those who prefer all aluminium cases. Fortunatley the exterior is aluminium or it would be just about to heavy to move with PC components in it.

The only case I've owned besides generics is an Antec so I can't speak for the build quality of the LL's, but the only thing I've ever seen that could come close looks/feature-wise is the CM Stacker...and that was due mainly to the fan layout. The LL's are clean as a whistle, laid out in a user-friendly manner, and at least appear well built, although flimsiness(?) can't be seen in a photo. Hopefully I'll be able to grab one up from Excaliber this week before they shoot back up to the more-than-any-case-is-worth price of $200.

Whatever, my '97 Mustang has over 140K miles on it. No problems, only part changed was two batteries, and standard maintenance (oil, tires, and fluid changes)... Take your stereotypes somewhere else...

I think a better compairison might be comparing a LL to a Mercedes.

Expensive, but refined. Many say overpriced. But if you're rich its not.
To some people its worth it, some its not. Its a matter of taste.

So the Skyhawk, Coolermaster, or whatever might be a Corolla, still nice, but a much better value.

A coolermaster to a BMW
A silverstone to a Jaguar

Expensive, but refined. Many say overpriced. But if you've got the cash its not.

Fix'd/QFT

As far as all aluminum cases go Lian-Li is about as good as you can get. All aluminum cases are flimsy compared to steel ones. It's a fact. I don't like my cases to flex at all.

The Antec P160 is ugly as hell. But structurally it's not bad for aluminum. At least a Lian Li will look good at the same time, where that particular Antec is ugly as hell.

But if Lian Li is still using those crappy standoffs I'll always vote against them.

AT work here we had stuff that used those cheap standoffs. Our solution was to throw them out and build our own out of machined aluminum that would take anything you threw at them.

Now that I have discovered a use for the THOUSANDS we had left over that I could have taken home at anytime ( with blessings ) that were lying around after the project was over, I THREW THEM OUT DURING OUR ANNUAL CLEANUP!

I could have been the Lian Li lifetime standoff guy!!!!!! These things were MASSIVE and they fit right in that square hole. :(

meh, it's no loss

I would just like to point out that my Geo Prizm is actually a Toyota Corolla and Toyota > Ford. :p

for strictly a car-case analogy. lian-li:lexus as coolermaster:mercedes.

both have their strong points, both have their negatives. you make the choice and weigh your own wants/needs.

i personally love my lian-li. layout is great, metal is easy to handle and work with. sleek and well thought out.

I have a pc6070b and I want a new case! Anybody want it? I really want to get my hands on a ATC-110/111 of one those Silverstone SST-TJ03.

These are the posts that upset me

so make a whiny post about it?

The only reason i drive a Geo is because I spent all my money on my LianLi V-1000 ;)

So we are saying that the best case out there are lian li's but we are comparing them to mustangs....
you noticed that too...

thats why I changed to Mercedes.... :) ....a more accurate comparison....

Though a McLauren F1 is the best car out there!

comparing that case to a LL is like comparing a Geo to a Mustang

FORD = Found on Road Dead ^_^

Silverstone cases are the best I've ever worked with, Antec cases are the easiest cases I've ever put together and taken apart. Most painful case experience was an xblade, the mounting rails didn't allow me to mount a floppy drive properly at all, wtf!. Lian Li's used to be great because they were the only Aluminum cases available and they were $$$. So if you saw some sucka at a LAN with a lian li he was the bomb. Now Lian Li is just another aluminum case manufacturer as far as I'm concerned, don't go by Brand name, because there are alot of case companies out there with alot more to offer.

hey... i've got a 91 escort lx. it may have the occasional dent and be missing a hubcap, but it's still scaring people off the road (or at least it will be when i learn to drive  )

that car outlasted my grandmother (god rest her soul) who bought the car brand new. grandma died in '95, but the car is still alive and kicking (or at least rolling).

and yes, that was the one with some  problems, but for some unknown reason, it's working just fine right now.

Seriously, how many case makers have really innovated? Damn few. Mostly, a ATX case is a ATX case. This goes here, that goes there.

Apple is the only maker that really innovated in their desktop cases over the years. You may not like what they do, but they didnt make the same old same old. They tried new things, like a Cube, the "El Capitan" case introduced with the B & W G3 in 99 was a marvel of openness and ability to get to the machines innards. The G5 case is another idea that was so good nobody thought of it.....make the entire front and back meshed and then you dont have to have small fans turning at 2500 rpm to generate noise.

At least Lian Li put some of the G5's style and design to play in the PC world in the V1000/2000 series....I dont know what kind of car it compares to, but I know what kind of computer case it compares to.....ordering mine here end of this week and getting rid of my Antec Plusview1000. If it were not for Battlefield 2 in March I'd dump the PC totally.

This is true, but on the other hand what is there to innovate. Everything works pretty well the way it is. Why move stuff around and change things that work just so you can have something different. I like some of the bigger cubes and stuff, but with companies that make cases that are really outrageous, i would hate to see what they did if they expanded their horizons  . I like my case like I like my cars, clean. Some may think it's called boring, but that is because you drive a honda with a stupid body kit and stock rims with shitty shitty taillights and a big bookshelf wing. (not that i have any pent up feelings about riced out honda's or anything :) )
