Onboard Nvidia 6100 won't go past 1280x800

I just bought an ECS C51GM-M and it has a built-in Geforce 6100 (and nForce 410 northbridge). Anyways I installed Forceware 91.xx and even before I installed those drives I can only get the resolution to go up to 1280x800x16. WinXP knows my display (Hyundai 17"). I'm running at 1024x768x32 (as high as it will go in 32 bit mode).

Any ideas why it won't go to 1280x1024? Surely the chipset can handle such a resolution, even old Intel GM chipsets can do that. 1280x800 is such a wierd resolution too.

I'm temporarily using this until I can buy a PCI-E video card, but the low resolution is blah!

I just went into the Advanced properties and looked at all modes, and the video card has support for HiDef formats like 1920x1080 and 1360x768, but the absolute only 1280x1024 mode is 256 colors

How much system RAM are you allocating in the BIOS for the on-board video? Sounds like you are not allocating enough.

sounds like a driver issue with mobo/display/video card ( i had onboard 6100 and it worked fine at any rez upto like 2048 or so

Well I got a VGA BIOS patch from ECS website. Now the vidcard BIOS shows up first at bootup like normal (it even says "Engineering Version - Not For Production" :D ).

If I unistall the nVidia drivers, and just leave the video card as default adaptor then I can go all the way up to 2048 or whatever it is, but as soon as I install the nVidia drivers, it goes back to 1280x800 limit.

Hmm, may just redo the Windows install and try again now that the VGA BIOS are ready to go. However my Dad said he has a spare PCI-E card sitting around I can borrow for the time being (probably a 6600 or something).

My Epox had the same problem with the newest Nvidia drivers...i went back to an old driver. Let me check which one.....

k..it says driver version 0.8466.0.0 dated 5/16/2006

ah good so i'm not insane (or at least not the only one having probbies). i've been trying to use my 3rd lcd on the geforce6100 onboard, and also hit that res limit as you have. So ... older drivers are the key?

now if only i could get games to run with all 3 enabled.

OK, my next test was to use some 89.xx drivers I still had lying around...always good to keep stuff around.

I'm having this same problem too. I used to run at 1600x1200 at 32bit, but after installing the new Nvidia drivers, the max resolution is 1360x768 at 16bit. I'm using a Biostar Geforce 6100 motherboard. I was able to add a custom resolution and force it to work at 1600x1200x32bit, but I would not recommend this. It has given me problems with games, like when I exit the game the screen stays get stuck at black and I have to restart. Also, if it goes into screensaver, I will occasionally not be able to return to the desktop - the screen will stay black and I will have to restart. I tried rolling back to the previous driver (where the 1600x1200 and other common resolutions were listed and worked) but now they are not listed. The new drivers seemed to have erased those resolutions, and even with the old drivers the resolutions don't show up as options.

Well I ended up reformatting and using 89.xx drivers. That worked great, but then I installed a seperate 6600, so I have not used the on board graphics anymore.

:( I'd rather not reformat to fix this though. It's all Nvidia's new drivers' fault!

Try using DriverCleaner to remove all traces of the old video drivers and then re-install which ever ones you want...

Well I uninstalled the drivers (v91.47) and installed the older drivers version 91.31. It works fine now. :)
