I am sending back my defective video card that i received this past Thursday but the day i received the box i noticed that i get a free copy of Halflife 2 if i send in the UPC code on the side of the box amongst some other things so of course i did that the day i received the new card, not knowing the card would go bad after 2 days of use. So now the RMA dept is telling me that their might be a chance they won't replace the card for me since i cut that out of the box and revealed the secret code to receive the free copy.

First of all how am i supposed to know that the card would go bad and not only will i have to pay to ship this POS back to them and pay for restocking fees. The card cost me $339 and it was the Asus Radeon 9800 pro 256 and by the time this is all said and done i will probably pay close to $400 and end up with no card.

I just hope they just replace the defective card because i am not asking for a refund,, rather just replace the defective unit and give me a new card. This just sucks..

Since your not looking to actually return it and just wanting the card replaced it shouldnt be a problem. The voucher itself has nothing to do with the warranty of the actual product.

LabRat,

I ordered it from www.essencompu.com.

Stynger - So u think that's will happen then. I mean the card did go bad and it should be covered by the manufacturer and not the place i ordered it from. They won't be losing any money as long as i don't return it, right ?

Your RMA'ing the card to get a working unit not returning the product..

There should be no issue here.

That should have nothing to do w/ it and don't let them tell you otherwise. If they don't exchange it you can always send it back to Asus for RMA. I had my Asus GeForce Ti4200 RMA'd by Asus cause the fan stopped working (admittingly after an OC) and they don't even want the original box or anything just the card. It look a bit over a week. Still insist that u want a new card from the vendor.

If they give you the 3rd degree, say fine, keep the card, call up your credit-card company, a file a complaint, just make sure you have proof that you sent the card back to them, like a tracking or a confirmation number.

other than that, you get your money back and can venture off to another source, like newegg.

when you send a broken product back they only care about the card itself, not the package.

Did you not read what the thread starter was saying?

They are bitching at him for revealing the HL2 voucher.

I'm really hoping this is what happens fellas.

I hope they don't give me crap about the whole voucher thing and just replace the defective card with a new one. I will raise hell if this is the case. The most annoying part is calling the RMA dept from where i bought this card and the kids that are at the other end , could careless what it is i'm saying and trying to explain. Stupid voucher !!! I really don't see why they would give me a problem since i don't want to get a refund but replace the bad one. I will know tomorrow i'm hoping ..

If you are trying to RMA the vid card to the company you bought the cad from and they are giving you a big hassle I would just recomend telling them to send you back the defective card and then just call up the manufacture of the card and do an RMA right directly with the people who made the card.

if you were asking for a refund then I could see an issue but an RMA..come on guys...this isn't rocket science AND it isn't like they are out anything...IF they give you a problem I would either ask to speak to management and explain to them or say fine and screw you and go directly to ASUS like others have said and RMA it through them

Gigglebyte,

That's what i'll do then. If they fight me on it then i'll just go through Asus. I just hate that they don't cover shipping costs for their product and why do i have to pay to ship it to both the site i bought it from as well as ASUS if i do go that route. This iis just soooo annoying guys. U guys are awesome for your input and this does put my mind at ease a bit. U guys rock. THANKS

Well some of us dont like newegg for everything. I dont. I have certain people I have done business for years and, they give me good breaks.
Will as far as, I can see it should be no problem or, better not be on a defctive card. And I agree with you on the shipping BS. I think the customer should be reimbersed for shipping in that case. But what do I know, Im only a consumer.

How about i put it to you like this. Not only could i get the same card that newegg carried for $30 cheaper but i would get it next day ahipping for free since i live close by but not enough to drive there. My buying price was $339 w/shipping compared to Neweggs $359 and i'm not sure shipping is included. Now, who would u buy from. www.essencompu.com is the not the manufacturer so i didn't care.

Joves,

When u say u hope it's not a defective card. Do u mean cause i might get another bad one. It might be a bad batch type of thing or model overall ? I hope not dude. I'll go nuts if it happens again. All this mailing back and fourth is annoying as all hell. Keeping my fingers crossed guys .

Can i just play with no problems. Jeeezzz ,LOL

Where's my damn X-BOX hehe

hmm..tough question! :) But I like to deal with companies that are around my area, like Newegg, Mwave, accupc.com and such.

It's the same product for about $30 cheaper. Yes i like to stick to vendors i am comfortable with but c'mon if i'm gonna save $30 for the same product. Why not ? I don't get it.

- Will

Was that $30 savings worth what hastle (and shipping costs) you are going through now?

Thats why people go through the reputable places.

Your not returning the card for a refund, your simply asking it to be repaired/replaced as per their warentee. Anyone on staff who says they wont accept the card for repair is violating their own warentee, and commiting fraud. As long as you havn't modified the card in any way.. your good to go :).

Using the coupon simply prevents your returning the card for a refund or exchange. At no point is it a release of the manufacturer from their obligations to a customer for basic service and support. If the product breaks within the alotted time thru no fault of the purchaser, during the course of normal operation, the Maker is obligated to repair the unit in a timely and efficient manner, or replace with equivalent or better, at the discression of the manufacturer.

Had you bought from newegg, you wouldnt have posted this thread.:)

Newegg's Customer Support is Top-notch.

DoggiDaddy,

Thank you for answering my questions and not going on and on about where i bought the card. Why try and make me feel worse about the whole thing. Newegg s the not only vendor with great support or the only one that carries this card. Thank you to those who chose to read my post and not pick at certain things and try and make me feel bad about who i chose to buy from. I was just confused as to what was going to happen when ii returned the defective card. Now i understand that the card will be replaced regardless of me sending in for the new game and that the 2 have nothing to do with one another.

Man u guys are rough. Sorry, some of u guys are ..

- Will

Course, *I* would question not simply buying a Built-By-ATI part.

Then, it doesn't MATTER who you ordered it from (hell, you could even buy it off eBay!) - ATI will replace it for you if it breaks.
