OK, This One is on Me

If you need a chair reviewer I will be happy to volunteer.

Here's an idea. How about we all post pics of our current computer chair.. and the one with the chair in the worst shape gets to "review" (keep) the new chair? :D

Kyle I have an ass, and need a chair. Sure send one on over.

Pretty funny timing because my costco mesh chair just took a shit. That Herman Miller looks tempting

I don't envy you. Outside of price and how long it takes you to assemble it, just about everything in a chair review is subjective.

To add to modi's proposed criteria, spillage and cleanup. Not saying to ruin the thing by smearing ketchup all over it, but some spot tests might be a good idea.

I believe that's already incorporated into the final stage of the PornHub test.

I might win. Mine was originally a nice chair meant for 8+ hours of use, rated for 500 pounds...but it was bonded leather which I somehow overlooked at the time of purchase. It cost me $300.

3 years later, the piston is completely shot and the bonded leather has completely peeled off. The padding is still pretty decent though. The exterior look went from black leather to black and gray spotted fuzzball with cat scratches on the backside.

As a side note: FUCK BONDED LEATHER. If I got a chair to review, I would post my current chair as comparison. "Here's what happens to bonded leather after 3 years. You want to pay nearly a grand for this to happen?" Instant point loss in the value department of the review.

This will definitely be a unique review for here. I've always been somewhat surprised in how much people will avoid spending on getting a quality chair or even bed. While even $1000 might sound like a lot for a chair, if you spend a lot of time sitting it will pay for itself many times over in health benefits and comfort. Same for a quality bed, don't skimp on something you spend a 1/3rd of your life on.

$900 for a chair? Ok, well outside of the normal functionality, for $900 lets test the crap out of this thing ...

Some suggestions:
Test 1: Does it mark up hard wood flooring.
Test 2: Does it roll well on carpet.
Test 3: Does it transition well from a chair mat to a carpet and back (Usually front wheels on carpet, rear wheels moving into and out of sitting position)
Test 4: Does it transition well from a chair mat to hardwood (Usually front wheels on hardwood, rear wheels moving into and out of sitting position)
Test 5: If you sit forward on the seat, does it feel like its going to tip.
Test 6: If you sit fast into the seat, slamming yourself back, does it feel like it going to tip.
Test 8: In a normal seated position, if you rock side to side, how much give is there in the lower frame?
Test 9: In a normal seated position, if you rock side to side, how much noise (if any) is made?
Test 10: In a fully leaned back position, if you rock side to side, how much give is there in the lower frame?
Test 11: In a fully leaned back position, if you rock side to side, how much noise (if any) is made?
Test 12: If you go from a full back position and sit up suddenly, does the chair feel like it wants to spring away from you.
Test 13: If you go from a full back position and sit up suddenly, how much noise (if any) is made?
Test 14: When you press against the arm rests with your elbows (down and away) , how much do they deflect.
Test 15: While completely seated, and the back locked upright, twist your back side to side as if scratching it against the chair. How much give is there in the upper frame?
Test 16: While completely seated, and the back locked upright, twist your back side to side as if scratching it against the chair. How much noise (if any) is made?
Test 17: Does the chair have any grapple prone points that grab at headphone cables and the like.
Test 18: Does the chair get uncomfortably warm if you sit in it for a long session?
Test 19: Does the chair have any points that start to feel like they are digging into you during a long session?
Test 20: Why yes, I really have nothing better to do. I write test cases all day anyway. SQA 4Life

The problem with chair reviews is they are so incredibly subjective not to mention sitting in one for a few days or even a month doesn't tell you how the chair is going to feel years down the line. Will the cushioning break down quickly? will it break in fast enough? Will one of the Arms prove to have a manufacturing flaw 13 months into ownership forcing you to use Tie straps to hold an otherwise perfect condition chair that was incredibly expensive and the Fking OEM doesn't sell replacement freaking parts so you are stuck with this half busted ass chair for years because you can't afford to drop $400 freaking dollars again because of one freaking flaw and no replacement....sorry getting off on a tangent there..Ahem anyhow are there replacement parts after a year or are you SOL? The list goes on and on...

That said as someone who spends A LOT of hours in a chair and is picky as shit about them, I can honestly say $400 hurt to spend. I can't imagine spending nearly a grand. I mean at that point I'm getting half tempted to buy a high quality Car racing seat and bolt it to the frame of this one. Pretty sure that damn thing won't break after a freaking year..Won't cost me $900 either..or even $400 for that matter.

Fuck the review, the most fun will be watching you put it together.

Time for another edition of [H]ardTV........I'm gonna crack open a cold beer and wait for the cursing to start as you attempt to decipher the Chinese-English
instructions.

For 900 bucks they should send a guy to assemble the chair.

It actually looks like an all aluminum version of an aileron or what ever those fancy Herman Miller things are called.

I'm anxious to see the videos.........come on man......

Test 21........where's the fucking cup holder?
Test 22.......if I spill a chili dog on this thing, is it easy to clean up.
Test 23....if my wife finds out how much it costs, will I be allowed to come back in the house after I retrieve the chair from the front lawn.
Test 24....what does the chair look like after my wife runs over it with the pick-up?

interesting. Though the amount I'm willing to spend on a chair is far less than $900.
And yes, I have the matching plastic folding table as my desk. Cost me a whopping $30.
:D

I had gone through a number of desks, borrowed and otherwise, until I found one that worked the best for me.

A 2' x 4' folding leg banquet table.

Seriously. Best desk ever.

Sometimes less is more and you don't need to spend $399 to get the features a $30 table give you: Maximum legroom and a nice, flat surface.

I've also been chair hunting lately and I'm finding the more expensive it is, the less I really want to bother with it. Best option I found so far was a LaZBoy chair at Staples. And this was after checking out Aerons, Steelchase chairs at an office supplier.

Sleep in it and tell me how you feel in the morning. We've all done it.

That's a pretty good template.

Wow, 900. I thought it was expensive for this DX racer chair.

It's about comfort. So you will need to sit in the chair for 8 hours+ or so non stop. Maybe the wife can give you lap dances in it? Test the hell out of it!

Lower back pain is definitely one thing to look out for long term. Also, make sure you abuse the shock absorber too if you know what I mean. ;) If it leaks and drops to the floor, then Fail.

I need a new chair, if you want to send it to me, I'll pay the freight to me and review the damn thing.

I think we should be able to ask questions about this review chair. Some questions may only be gen may and some for gen pop.

How well does cheeto grease wipe off your fingers and under a surface like the arm rest or seat bottom?

Is this a chair which can cause swass over extended use scenerios?

This could get fun....:)

I was about to volunteer to review your stuff, and I'm local, but I have too much junk in my house already.

I work from home a lot, and I have burned through many of the $100 Staples chairs that just go to hell after a year. I bought this Z-Line chair 3 years ago and it's still holding up very well. I can totally recommend it. They sell them at Fry's (which is where I saw it, then promptly ordered from Amazon for $70 savings). My major complaint is the ass padding always seems to vanish first. I'm not a big person, I don't have a big or cushy ass, so I'm instantly aware when my "executive office chair" has turned into a wooden park bench. This one is still going strong.

$118

The ergonomic chairs at work that I know cost $400 each cause me immediate discomfort and back pain. The Z-line is comfy and causes me zero back anguish.

Your back hurts when using an ergonomic chair because your posture is fucked from those shitbox chairs. A quality chair will also hold up. One of my chairs is a refurbished and the other is 3 yrs old, both like new. Go to a good retailer and them show you. Chair is as important as monitor and PC.

Some review categories/suggestions:

  • Lower back/lumbar support
  • Upper back/neck support
  • Overall comfort after 3 hours
  • Overall comfort after 8 hours or more (as much continuous time in the chair as possible)
  • Ease of chair adjustments
  • Ease of putting together chair
  • Wear and Tear
  • Supported weight (most are around 200-300lbs)
  • Quality of materials
  • Time and coverage range of warranty
  • Comfort of butt/thigh areas
Hope those suggestions help!

How ironic I was at Fry's electronics the other day and saw that Aroozi desk and liked it enough to look for someone to tell me the price since the tag was missing. I didn't find anybody to help me though what did I expect it's Fry's.

That basically just looks like a Herman Miller Aeron knockoff. I have one. Thing cost about a thousand dollars. And after a few years the mesh becomes loose enough that it looses its ability to support your posture.

Mine is a real leather chair.. and it has about an 8" rip in it. The bolts that hold the arm to the backrest also tend to come loose every once in a while and flop down. And the piston randomly collapses. It was used when I got it.

I've had a great experience with my latest chair. It's going to hit its 3 year anniversary in two weeks and it's held up really well. The fabric is still great and the cushion is 85-90% as good as when it was brand new. I expect it to last another 5 years. https://imgur.com/a/Pg9qw

It's Made in the USA, 8000 series from Neutral Posture. My GF has the E series and she loves that too. Mine was $977 after tax and shipping 3 years ago in 2014 January.

I've tried a ton of other chairs from all the office stores and costco. Mesh chairs stretch really fast and the cushions on other chairs are dead after a year. This sucker has a super thick cushion.

I'm looking forward to this review.

I'm also LMFAO right next week because I just took the arms off my chair because they don't go low enough and get in my way. They became an issue when I got my corner height adjustable desk. I get my chair at the perfect height, my desk at the perfect height and when I go to belly up to the desk to see the screen clearly... Arms are hitting the desk. Putting the desk higher raises my arms too much for comfortable typing...

Adjustability of the arms is huge. Can they go down to lap height? Move in and out? I miss my arms sometimes when I want to lean back away from my desk. My next chair will have arms that can GTFO when I'm not using them....

Whats the difference between the 350 and the 350se (besides the red paint and accents on the wheels)

the descriptions on the website are exactly the same, but the red "SE" costs 200 more
