This is the card I'm more interested in atm..

Don't care so much about the 1080, if I'm spending that much money I might as well hold out for the Ti version or HBM2.

^^ I never buy the top dog when it released. Rubbish to pay that overhead. I'm also more interested in the 1070.

They are comparing it to a 970. What ever happened to the comparisons to the 980 and 980ti? That's a big gap in performance. And it's only 30 Watts less power. Looks like nvidia intentionally gimped it because they know AMD has nothing to compete with it.

Interesting, potentially the same power delivery as the 1080 with a lower base power consumption. Looks like a pretty solid recipe for OC'ing, 50% extra wattage headroom :)

Perhaps one of these to wait for big Pascal; oh these are certainly fun choices to have to make :)

Looks like this might actually be a 6GB + 2GB card :troll:.
$449 USD for the Founders Edition, $379 USD starting price for everything else. Launch price of the GTX 970 was $329.

$379 is acceptable. I paid 325'ish for my ASUS Strix 970.

That is precisely the point - other than the differences stated (memory type and clock speeds) it is, in fact, identical to the GTX1080 - down to the cooling.
For my rota, a GTX1080 would be, in fact, monstrous overkill. Yet (so far - on paper), it outperforms the GTX970 - at the same price - with a lower power draw.
(Question - does even a single STRIX GTX970 do 4K on a single display at all? If it can't, while a single GTX1070FE can, then why buy a single GTX970 if 4K is in the plans?)

1070 is not enough for 4k. It's 1440p card at best and it might lack a lot comparing to 1080. It's 2/3 of full gp104. Quite a cut. So maybe this time the price diff between 1070 and 1080 will be justifiable.

Benchmarks in the coming weeks will be helpful to figure out improvement in 1440p and 4K performance over the prior cards; if it indeed is 'Faster than a Titan X'.

It seems the 970 held its value better during the Maxwell era than the 980 did after the 980 ti released; it could make sense to purchase 1070 and await the big kahuna later on

any word on how many monitors the 1080/1070 will support at once? previous generation topped out at 4 I believe.. currently using 2x 390's in a system for 12 monitors (using two MST hubs), so would be interested... I see on the specs page it just says "multi display - yes" :/

LoL no.. 1070 compose of 120TMUs so 1920 shaders and 64 rops.. GTX 1080 compose of 160TMUs so 2560 shaders and 64 rops. only by these specs without take into consideration GDDR5X memory we can expect the 1080 to perform about 20-25% faster than the 1070.

GTX 970 doesn't had a reference board + cooler... months later a "best buy" (of course only available at best buy) edition was launched with reference board + cooler but it costed 80$ premium, and it was the cheap reference cooler without the vapor chamber and without backplate.. so all its fine in my opinion..

from slides it seems to be same performance upgrade as 980>1080 (in games 1.7-1.75 or so ), so close to 970SLI and probably around 980ti OC, maybe not in 4k .
xx70 is most times sweet spot for price/performance and I think same will happen here.
It probably also has more headroom on OC, but we will see.

Brent_Justice Can we expect a review of this in the future as well? I know the 1080 is the pseudo-flagship and will have more articles like the OC performance; I just assumed we'd get similar treatment for each card, just delayed based on release dates (perhaps 2-4 weeks behind)

If this laughs at 1440p at decent eyecandy settings, I'd probably go for this instead of the 1080. As much as I'd like to pitch my 7890, i don't want to have a 350-450 dollar paper weight either when the Ti's drop when spending the difference on a 1080 would have been better, even if i dont spring for a Ti or AMD's competing card. (If they even make one this round)

All i know is I'm tired of waiting to upgrade. Would i be better off waiting a little longer or is it safe to say I've waited long enough? I doubt i will ever end up doing 4k gaming within the next 2 years.

I'm a bit like you. I currently am using an Asus 7950 and am itching for a descent upgrade. If you aren't planning on 4k in the next few years, there isn't really any need to wait (unless you want to for Polaris) We have waited long enough.

The 1070 is expected to be about on par with the 980 Ti (stock vs. stock), so I'd agree this would be the sweet spot as far as cost-performance ratio for 2560x1440.

1080P gaming here, so it'll be this or the AMD offering in the same price bracket. Nothing higher than this though.... so now it's just a waiting game for product releases and [H] benchmarks.

No, we are going to ignore new card launches from here on out. We are changing our focus to botany, yes botany. Not enough review sites out there about plants these days. Gotta figure out how to overclock a plant.

Same here. I'm still on an R9 290. Considering going for this 1070 if the price is right. Haven't been on nVidia in years. Depends what the AMD release looks like.

I never buy the top of the line card because they're usually grossly overpriced for a few months. I've found that if you buy the midline card, you can usually find a deal on the top line card 6months later and still get a fair amount for your used midline.

So three fourths of the GPU for a little less than 3/4ths of the price. Pass.

    It's actually 75% of 1080 performance for 63% price rather than 75% for 75%.
The waiting might be long. I think of getting 1070 for now and upgrading to 1080ti later if I need to.

I'm in the same boat. I'm betting there will be a decent 1070 re-sale market even when the 1080ti is coming out; although that's largely dependent on AMD releases

My gut tells me it will be the same as with 980. Cool but overpriced card that will become even less attractive when 1080ti will be release for $100-150 more with significant performance increase. Might be different because of HBM2 this time if it gets it and 1080ti can end up being too expensive. However I bet that 1070 will be very popular with good resale market. At the end of the end of the day I'm planning to build a compact PC for which I can reuse that 1070 once I replace it with something. Though itching pushes me towards 1080 and I need to fight it :D

Excited about these news cards as my setup is getting a bit long in the tooth. How do you think these new cards would stack up against SLI 670's? It is just recently that I find I am GPU limited in some newer titles at 2560 x 1440. Am I correct in thinking my current SLI setup is somewhere between a 970 and 980 GTX?

If these are slated to release at $379ea then a pair of these in SLI might be a showstopper for those that try to get the longest run from their cards. If these test to be around the performance of a 980ti then a pair would be nice for 1440 gaming.

It's funny you mention this because I actually helped run a botany review website for a family friend for several years. I am totally serious.
