It was pretty clear that they are still shipping monitors without the fix. Don't blame newegg, blame yourself for taking a risk and failing.
 
I think Viewsonic has a pretty good rep overall, but I don't care about company rep so much as individual model rep. And at that low of a price, I find it hard to believe that the 28" could be as good quality-wise as the BenQ.

It was not clear at all. I was actually assured that the newegg has the latest & greatest batch in stock ready to ship. Right. Newegg is not what they used to be & that's the fact. More business to ZipZoomfly & Mvave here in the states & NCIX across the border.

Can someone confirm that the new firmware on the earlier batch of LCDs doesn't effect the DVI signal input when turned off.

I had none when I first bought mine. Recently one appeared, it was NOT there when I bought it as I checked thoroughly beforehand. So I suppose it's a "stuck" pixel, but I've tried a number of methods both software and physical to try and get rid of it, and I can't. When there's blacks on the screen it shows up as red.

Only one though, I just wish there was a way to get rid of it, but I sort of gave up a week ago.

By the way, BenQ service center called me and let me know my monitor's firmware upgrade is complete and I can pick it up on monday. Yay!
 
Did you try the java color switcher and rubbing in a circular motion at the same time?

From all the reviews i've seen the monitor has already a great stand, solid, stable and easy to adjust... I've seen here only two people talking about a problem with it, that it tilted a bit on one side
 
Of course, NCIX is out of them right now. :) Still trying to decide who to go through, I like using NE, but I have to pay tax, which would cost more than adding the NCIX pixel coverage. And at least I'd know I'd be covered against dead pixels from NCIX. I haven't had any pixel issues with the 2 Apple portables I've bought or my LCD TV, but I returned two 2005FPWs before keeping this one that I have, at least Dell made that easy. I'm not clear on what NE's policy is on this.

I have a feeling I'll either go with NCIX, or just wait another month or two. I'll just have to stay away from the forum so I won't tempt myself with getting one. Besides, I just ordered a new electric shaver today, and it's got, err, a LCD screen on it, that should amuse me for a few minutes.

lost track of how many edits I've done here. Aww heck, who am I kidding, guess I'll get one from NCIX. The kicker was, I was going through their forum on the Benq and I'm just impressed that they have 2 employees replying to someone's off-topic question in the thread. That just seems like good customer support to me, eh. Now if I can get them to pack in a few Tim Horton's...
 
Is there an official date on when the wz model is available, or are benq keeping mum on the situation.

I've been lurking on this thread since it started. It's be best thread on the net for this monitor by a long shot. Lots of interesting info that's been discovered over the long haul!

Anyway, I've got a question about this 24" monitor and other larger monitors like the 28" Viewsonic and the 30" lines. My eyes aren't what they used to be (yeah growing old is a bitch). I'm looking for a monitor that will show all these damn tiny fonts large at native resolution. What's the best bet? Ideas? Can I just up the font size at native resolution? What monitor will do this the best considering that as they get bigger the resolution goes up as well.

The only reason I would want to step up to a 26-28 inch size would be if they were to increase the resolution to match. Does anyone know whether any of the new monitors competing with the FP241 series will actually sport both a larger size and larger resolution or are they all just going to stay at a poor pixel/inch as they grow to avoid dual-link DVI?
 
Running at 1920 * 1200 on a 24" WS yeilds slightly smaller text than 1650 * 1050 on a 20" WS. I would definately try before you buy. I find the text quality on the BenQ about the same as any other decent LCD.

I just did and I will post results when I get mine. They did go "out of stock" as of 1/19, but they say they'll get more for 1/22.

I believe they're flashing the monitors they have in inventory themselves.
 
Flexion, they are. Any of the 24" BenQ monitors they get in stock, they will be manually upgrading the firmware on until they get new shipments.

No, thats wrong! Its slightly larger, with its 0.27 mm dot pitch.

To wait or not to wait..... Get the fixed FP241W from NCIX, or wait for the viewsonic VX2835WM / VX2435WM or the FP241W Z ... :(

the viewsonic 24'' will come out in february, the 28'' april, and the WZ i don't know...

Guys do you know when it will come out??

Hmm, anyone know if BenQ has plans to introduce something in the 26-inch range. As I said a page or so ago, the highest I would want to take 1920 x1200 is about 26-inch before the pixel/inch gets annoying. It seems odd that they decided to release the VW and Z version at 24-inch; at least one of those two should have added the two inches to make use of that fancy new panel mentioned in this threat a while back.

I guess the question becomes whether buying 24-inch is buying a product about to tumble in price and missing the train on a newer tech to be out soon.
 
Perhaps, but in this case it seems a bit more pressing... what with the other manufacturers announcing the new tech. Blah, and I was so sold on the FP241 series up until this whole 1:1 thing popped up and delayed buying long enough for these new monitors to emerge. Regardless, I may go with one of these anyway, unless there's a real good 26 or 27 inch in the same price range in reallll world performance (spec sheets seem to lie a lot).

I read a recent review on Newegg saying that the monitor cannot rotate 90 degrees for a portrait orientation. For some reason, I thought the BenQ 24" could rotate 90 degrees and there was software so the text and pictures would be displayed in portrait mode - is this not the case? Because it seems like most other 24" monitors have this feature (Dell, Samsung, Gateway).
 
I jumped the gun and ordered from newegg and ya I didn't get one with a firmware update, but thats clearly my fault for taking the risk this early after the firmware update, not neweggs. Obviously they can't be expected to keep track of these kind of minute details on products. If they did, they wouldn't have the unbelievable prices and processing/shipping speeds they do. On top of that, the customer service is great (which is a rare combination). Do we seriously expect them to open the box and plug it in for us to check if the firmware is up-to-date? Anyway, in my opinion if your in the states there is no other store to order from. Just give it a month or two if you want a guarantee on the firmware update and don't blame the messenger.

I can rotate my fp241w to portrait mode just fine.

The monitor definite can rotate to portrait mode. I just skimmed the Newegg reviews, I don't see anything that contradicts this (a few do mention that pivot works great) -- are you sure you were looking at the right monitor? I'm not sure if it comes with any software, though -- the Gateway monitor has software that will automatically detect when the monitor is rotated, but I don't think this one has anything like that. You can control the rotation with the Nvidia drivers (and I think ATI as well, can anyone confirm?), so I don't think additional software is really necessary.

Totally agree -- two months ago, the 1:1 fix would have made this a sure thing. Now we've got new monitors from LG, Samsung, Viewsonic, and Sceptre on the horizon. The price of this monitor has already gone down by about $50 over the past few days, what will happen when more competition appears? Dell's recently released their 27 inch model (which is ridiculously priced at the moment), and are also updating their 30 inch model -- it makes me wonder if they will soon revamp their 24 inch model so that it has the improved color gamut the two bigger monitors have.

I've already waited this long for the BenQ, and I don't need a new monitor right this minute, so I'm just going to watch for another few months and see what the selection is like once these other monitors come out.
 
I mean you can get the fixed version from NCIX for under $800 US with the 30 day dead-pixel plan, but then you gotta tack on $50ish for shipping... Newegg is a waiting game, but would probably have it for $750 with free shipping (no idea what Newegg's plan is)...

And what about NCIX's shipping insurance...? Pointless? $869 US with the insurance and dead pixel 1-year thing... Not too bad if you ask me... But I guess they don't do US credit cards either...

Edit: Well I ordered it from NCIX with the insurance and pixel-policy... NewEgg just couldn't get their act together, and they have a retarded 8 dead-pixel-for-refund policy.

Pros: Out of the box, this monitor shines. Truly the only monitor in its class with HDMI, there's no way to truly describe what it is to see in-action. The monitor exhibits literally no ghosting, and mine arrived with the 1:1 pixel mapping firmware fix, which enables "aspect" stretching, "full screen" stretching, and 1:1 mapping (for those of you who want to see 1080p, and just that). I use it with my notebook, as well as Xbox 360, and am awed. Brightness and contrast put ALL my other monitors to shame.

Cons: The monitor stand itself is a little shaky when you change its elevation (it moves up and down), and it would be nice if the screen was really able to turn a full 90 degrees. As has already been mentioned, the OSD is hard to master initially, but I can understand putting the controls on the side so the front remains clean. Messing with the OSD is a minor complaint. PNP is almost a gimmick, since it only works with similar inputs (composite, component, s-video), and (D-Sub, DVI, HDMI) respectively.

Other Thoughts: Be prepared to use up your whole desk with this thing. I guess I should have measured what 24" diagonal looks like, since I was stunned when I removed it from the box. Truly a worthwhile purchase, best money I've ever spent."

From what a lot of reviews and people says the stand is very stable..weird... and it does do a full 90 degrees lots of people here can tell you

Ah, that's what you're talking about. Maybe the reviewer is talking about swiveling the monitor from side to side a full 90 degrees, not pivoting it from portrait to landscape? In any case, though, it's been confirmed by several others that this does pivot, so this shouldn't be an issue.
 
Had this monitor for a little while, I love it its absolutely amazing. I was just wondering what settings you guys are running it at. I have found a good balance of contrast and brightness on standard for my desktop but I'm having trouble finding a good balance for movies and video.
 
So, has anyone been able to receive one from Newegg with the firmware fix?

It seems that they are trying to either clear out old stock of this monitor or got some new ones in as it is in stock now again.
 
Good to hear 1:1 fix is coming!

Now the BenQ FP241W is a perfect 24 inch monitor or 99.9% the best 24 inch montior out there now!
