Official Acer [XB270HU] 27" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync IPS ULMB Monitor Thread

After playing around with mine for a bit I can say I'm truly impressed with this screen. It's definitely a more pleasing image than the IPS screen on my laptop.

I originally did have one dead green subpixel in the top right area, but after a night of playing games and watching movies, it appears to have corrected. I can't seem to find it anymore. That being the case, my screen is 100% pixel perfect.

As others have pointed out, the IPS glow is there. . . if you really look for it; definitely magnitudes better than other screens I've dealt with. No issues at all watching movies or playing dark video games. I honestly am at a loss for anything I can even nitpick about this screen.

Nope, I hadn't turned down the brightness yet. Looks like they recommend 24%. Still do see IPS glow though. As a side note, 24% seems a little too dark for me.

Here is a picture in a dark room with all black screen at 24% brightness

Edit: Here is a second picture with room lighting on and all black background at 50% brightness

Is this bad backbleed for this monitor or about normal?

Wow that looks terrible. I have a hard time trusting Acer I hope most people's aren't that bad. I would exchange or return it if I were you.

It's very hard to capture a representative pic of ips glow, just keep that in mind. Anything to do with black level is hard for a digital camera. For instance clearly the blue led whited out.

Yeah, I think that is true. The picture does make it seem worse than it actually is I think.

Mine has some glow too, more obvious in the lower right.

For some of you complaining about dead pixels, as stated by other members, most of you are wrong. The pixels aren't the issue but it is some type of dirt/dust within the display, or an issue with the AG coating possibly.

At any rate, I am posting here as a B326HK (32" 4K IPS) Acer owner and have the SAME ISSUE. It seems obvious to me this is a problem in the production facility as it is not specific to your monitors.

I circled the two areas. The lower area is more prominent than the top, and they are only visible on light backgrounds.

Got mine today but a couple major defects. I'm thinking the best course of action would be to RMA to Acer. I ordered through amazon from antonline.

First off there were no dead pixels and low backlight bleed. However, after changing the refresh rate one section of the backlight went to max brightness. Odd. Turning it off and on again fixed it.

When checking for dead pixels I noticed some strange horizontal streaks. I made some test images to illustrate the issue.

Checker images produce horizontal streaks against grey backgrounds. In this image 3 squares with 1x1 color on black checkers produce horizontal streaks on a solid grey background. It's quite noticeable. I only have the display port cable that came with the monitor so could not try a different one. The artifacts are present at lower refresh rates and switching switching dp ports on the video card didn't help.

Second image, 1x2 and 1x3 grey on black checkers. The grey turns to green and where they overlap it produces horizontal bands of magenta. There is no color at all in the original image.

Closeup.

That one section of backlight has since turned off and restarting the monitor doesn't help.

Here are the two test images I created for the screenshots above. Zoom level needs to be exactly 100% when viewing these for the artifacts above to appear.

OMG those images totally f*ck up my screen, that stuff is legit. Defective as hell. How did you figure that out? Now is that the Acer screen, or the nVidia card? Someone needs to get in touch with Acer ASAP probably. First world problems, meh.

(No problem with my back light here -- you should definitely RMA for that.)

Does DP suffer from same limited/ full range colors issue as HDMI on Nvidia cards?

That's actually when the screen sends the wrong info to the video card. nVidia added a Full / Limited switch finally.

Is there even an issue with Nvidia cards? Each card supports its stated specification don't they? Any card from the last probably 4 years should have the bandwidth this monitor requires for full chroma.

Does that pattern appear with different OverDrive levels? Different refresh rates? I've seen pictures of other monitors with this problem but not so extreme.

I found nothing that made any difference.

Getting exactly the same artifacts with my monitor, which has a completely different panel so its not an Acer problem.
This is a conflict with pixel inversion patterns and sharpening on MANY monitors, you will never encounter these outside of the test images.

Why doesn't this monitor support Nvidia 3D vision? Could it be related to the IPS tech of the panel?

I'm going to buck the trend a bit here.

I got mine and set it up yesterday. I calibrated it using TFTCentral's settings and icc profile. Ran all the pixel screen tests and have zero dead or stuck pixels, basically pixel perfect.

I have the screen running at 25% brightness and have almost non-existent backlight bleed. The panel is basically flawless.

This screen blows me away, it's simply the best picture I've seen on a computer monitor.

So anyone tried ULMB mode for some time already?

It it usefull at 100 Hz or too blinking ?

I've run the pattern through multiple monitors, and almost all of them have some issue with the second image, so yes, it's not an Acer problem.

And also, I hate you all. Well, I'm jealous that none of you have any dead pixels. As has been stated, the Overclocker forums have it at 30% panels with a dead pixel, and so far no one here has gotten one. And of course, my monitor arrives later today, so not looking forward to my odds.

Did anyone else order from Antonline via Amazon and not yet have their monitor ship out?

I ordered mine on April 1st and it still says "Preparing for Shipment." I'm hoping they allocated one and that I'm not stuck waiting on their next shipment.

I am going to miss my original NEC 2490(wuxi) if I get this Acer and choose to keep it:mad:

Its 10 years old and the panel quality hasn't changed or degraded 1%, all props to NEC.

I want to retire from 60hz and I think that time is finally coming now without compromising picture quality.

I'm with the same thought for a long time.

I love my trusty old Dell U2410 which is 5 years old now.
But I will definitely replace it with a quality 120/144Hz IPS panel from a top manufacturer.
I said QUALITY not some overclocked ebay shit.

That is who I ordered from (on the same day), mine is listed as shipped.

My first time ordering a monitor from an Amazon store front, I hope it all goes well....

Interesting, but unfortunate. I'm not going to worry about it. 2 reviewers didn't notice it, and I hadn't had any problems otherwise. If I bump into it a few times over the next couple years, meh. Monitor is sweet otherwise, that smoothness!

This is a non-scientific poll based on a non-random sample with a clear self selection bias. I.e., you can get just as accurate of a number by throwing a dart at a board. I also ordered one (currently sitting at my front door, waiting for me to come home) and I could care less what that "poll" says. I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Well, it arrived and I did not win the panel lottery. Either multiple dead pixels (about 12-13) or lots of dust behind the coating. Also it appears there's a strand of hair behind the coating. Still completely unacceptable as it's visible to the naked eye immediately and not something I had to run tests to search for.

Wow that sucks :(

looks like they are opening boxes and looking for perfect panels, I would not buy these monitors off 3rd party sellers on Amazon or whoever.

Boy I hope that is not the case, I bought new not open box. I will RMA and stop payment. Ill see when I get it.

I ordered from Antonline via Amazon, and it arrived today. Unfortunately mine has several dust spots, and a few dead pixels. I hope Antonline makes good on this.

Hopefully this is isolated to Antonline and not indicative of the QC of these monitors in general... all these initial reports are concerning.

I must have lucked out, mine was perfect. No dead pixels and no noticeable backlight bleed

Bought directly from Acer.

I really hope mine from AntOnline is ok after hearing all of these QC issues! Hopefully amazon can help if they're any issues. How many people have displays from Antonline with issues?

Wow I'm not impressed with these pics and impressions...

Linus was basically gushed his entire review but seeing people with real world non-review units is not reassuring considering the high cost. I swear I would pay an extra $100 for good quality control just so I wouldn't have to go through the nightmare of returning units..

this is why I decided to wait for my local MC to get some in, the store is only a mile away from where I live.

Yup. Microcenter all the way.

As many reports as there are of problems with this one I may take my laptop and a power inverter and just test it right there in their parking lot.
