That's the kind of situation where you don't even bother to find out about warranty service because you're so determined to never deal with the company again... which is a good thing considering how big of a failure OCZ has become as an enthusiast brand. They're at the bottom of the barrel with Seagate.

While I really really hate OCZ I did have a vertex 2 that crapped out. The RMA process was actually pretty painless & they sent back a brand new drive (that I sold without even opening). Had I had the cash in my bank account before this deal died I would have bought 4 of them and ran a raid array with parity so that I wasnt SOL waiting for RMA's

What? Instead of buying one reliable SSD at a slightly higher cost you would pay $220 for 128GB with no TRIM support?

Actually I would ahve been paying 310ish for 384gb of SSD with no trim support. Didnt say I was going to go with a 4 way parity.. Just going to have parity. Raid 4 I believe it is (not sure which I am actually thinking of, but you start with 4 & loose the capacity of 1 to a distributed parity across all drives) MIR was only good for 1 drive & I am not a new customer at buy.com (nor would I create multiple new accounts to save a few bucks).

Ah I was thinking of a different RAID. My mistake

Within the last 30 days bought one from Atlanta Microcenter.
Was DOA @ house. Showed gibberish in bios. Toolbox could not see it.
Ocz bumped me to a Octane drive for free.
Works great and I am happy so far.

I had a huge argument with someone about OCZ and an SSD Drive.

Him: I want to buy an OCZ SSD drive. Its $85 shipped on Newegg.
Me: Why not pay $10 more for the Crucial M4 or Samsung 830?
Him: OCZ are good. And I did research, its Faster!
Me: Yea, Faster to FAIL. Buy the M4
Him:Its $10 Cheaper.
Me: I'd rather pay $40 more for a Solid/Stable product, Then have to fuck around with OCZ's shit Customer Service
Him: I've done my research
Me: /end argument. Whatever, I'll order it for you.

Over and Over I have argued with people who think OCZ, Apevia, xClio or other companies are good. When its quite obvious, their Shit.

This is a smnoking deal. But is a Smoking Deal worth the risk/hassle and the headache? Potentially. Please post your outcome guys. Were all wanting to hear.

this is pretty much how I see it. Less then half the cost of the big dogs, but questionable reliability so it's certainly a gamble.

ok, I hate to disappoint all the haters here, but so far my 2 drives are 80$/ea well spent..
Drives came with FW 3.12 which seems to be the newest.. So far no hiccups or crashes..

Test machine
E5500
Fresh fully updated install of Windows 7 x64
2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR2 667

STOCK HDD:
HDDtest-HDD-Read.png

Boots from 0 to windows loaded and idle in about 52 seconds

OCZ PETROL:
HDDtest-SSD-Read.png

Boots from 0 to windows loaded and idle in about 22

I used each one for about an hour just doing normal tasks (Test chrome, IE and FF load times, file transfers, and just all the basic stuff and dear god this drive is zippy as hell.. no hangups or load times for jsut about anything with the SSD.. On the stock HDD everythin takes about 1-4 seconds to open..

So long as this drive doesnt die any time soon, ill be a happy camper..
not worried about its random death.. have a backup image to push to my 80gb drive if this one needs RMA'd.

This thread has only just begun.

True.. But its also an apples and oranges discussion..
These drives are low/mid range and cheap.. and they went in a mid range and cheap computer to give it a bit longer life.. Not a high end gaming machine or server..

55$ well spent on a old laptop

Sure your 9mm can kill something, but my 50 cal can kill stuff better..

The second part of this deal is the rebate..
Got mine filled out and ready to go out tomorrow..

Chose to take the 2$ hit for 5-7 day processing as opposed to 6-8 weeks.. 1 Rebate per address so I had to split em up, but I should have the giftcards the last week of april.

We shall see

Seq: 170.7/150.7
512K: 140.3/132.9
4K: 11.85/41.61
4K/QD32: 11.86/50.53

Any more updates? I haven't even opened mine yet. Someone on slickdeals posted that they requested an RMA and were told they were out of Petrol and was offered a 120GB Agility 3.

Got both my rebates rally quick on these..

I had one start giving me issues so I mirrored to the other and sent the bad one in for RMA.. 4 days later they sent me a VERTEX 3 (New, not refurb)... I really wish I would bought like 5 of these..

Oh boy... Drive is starting to kick the bucket. Had to move my D3 install over to my Corsair Force primary drive. Backing up all my games to a physical disc, and gonna get this POS rma'd.

I really don't understand how OCZ put this junk on the market. For what it's worth, Newegg has 72% one and two star reviews, Amazon has 75% one star reviews (no two star reviews), MicroCenter has 74% one star reviews (no two star reviews). I think it's pretty obvious that this drive went to market with known problems with the large number of DOA units. Clearly OCZ doesn't want its name to be associated with reliability.

WTF? And people (many of whom read the reviews prior to purchasing, no doubt) still bought these?

Alrighty then.

Read this thread. It's quite enjoyable to read.

Oh I did. What I found perhaps most humorous was the guy that said "Got one of these, running D3 all day, yo" and then less than 2 months later had problems with the drive.

Good luck to everyone who bought these is all I can say. If they somehow continue to work, great...you're among the lucky. If your drive crapped out and OCZ upgraded you to a different drive, fantastic...you got another product from a company who has left a bad taste in the mouth of many consumers. I'd rather pay more for a product with better reliability...and from a company without a shady history.

You'd never see Intel, Crucial or Samsung put a product like this to market. Shame on you, OCZ. I'm not saying that all of your products fail, but your history has been spotty at best. Full of marketing hype and a lot of disappointments.

No kidding. The best part is I've been involved in probably 3 or 4 more threads like this one about OCZ SSDs since 2010 or so and the entire time I've been running the same Intel X25M. Wife is still running Intel X25V. Life expectancy based on usage is still almost 10 years on both drives. You get what you pay for when it comes to SSDs. You might get that kind of life out of an OCZ but that would be the exception with many product lines, not the rule. With Intel and other high quality SSD manufacturers, such performance is what you expect, and frankly I don't care to pay for quality when it comes to SSDs.

But please, feel free to keep buying OCZ. It gives me amusing threads to read during coffee breaks.
