Carrying over a discussion from the Case forum, I'm working on a new build that has virtually capped out my budget, and then some. It's a build that is designed to last me roughly 4 years (completely viable as I'm upgrading from an E6600 and a 7800GT from early 2006).

New System:

- Intel Core i7 I7-870 2.93 GHz Processor BX80605I7870
- Corsair TW3X4G1333C9A XMS3 4 GB Memory Kit PC3-10666 1333mhz 240-pin Dual Channel DDR3
- GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 LGA 1156 Intel P55 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
- MSI N470GTX-M2D12-B GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
- Kingston SSDNow 64GB SSD (boot, Windows 7)
- IBM 80GB IDE HD (OS backup, windows XP)
- Samsung HD103SJ 1TB SATA HD
- ASUS VH236H Black 23" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen Full HD 1080P LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 20000 :1 (ASCR)
- SoundBlaster Audigy LS
- OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ700MXSP 700W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V PFC Power Supply
- Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-106D ATA CD/DVD RW

The reason for choosing this power supply was because with the motherboard combo and the rebate, it came out to an extra $15. I wasn't going to change power supplies, but I was told the Antec TP3-650 650 watt one I was using probably wouldn't be enough. My question now is not only on whether the Antec would be sufficient, but if the OCZ is any better.

Antec TP3-650: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371001&cm_re=tp3-650-_-17-371-001-_-Product

Power supplies are one of the parts I know the least about, and simply don't understand the specs and stats of. I really have to rely on user ratings and feedback, and though it doesn't seem too bad on Newegg, I've had a few people now advise against it. I'd love to go with a nice higher end psu, but unless I wait a few months, I simply can't spend any more on this build.

The TP3-650 had some issues IIRC so yeah it may not be a good idea to reuse it. With that said, I'd still recommend it over the OCZ.

Frankly I wouldn't recommend the OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W since it can't provide its rated wattage at 50C.

I've been using Everest to get me a temp reading, but it doesn't list one that is just 'case'. It has Motherboard, which generally runs about 40-46c, is that what I'd be looking at to see if I were running over 50c?

The general reviews between the two units are seemingly about the same, some say great, some say awful, some say good until it stops working and then bad...it's rather across the board with more good than bad.

The problem is that you've been relying almost exclusively on user reviews. And most user reviews have absolutely nothing at all whatsoever in those PSUs' advertised wattage range to compare to.

And yes, we meant the internal operating temperature inside the PSU itself.
