so as of today are these drives failing or is the problem fixed? and if the problem is fixed why is a samsung 840 pro 512 $600, and this is half?

With the warranty in mind, this is a win/win situation. This is a damn good deal for a solid drive. Nothing like intel or samsung, but it'll hold it's own.

Only if the company is still around in 2 years. Look at their stock price and the SEC investigation.

Be Aware: This is the version with the cheaper NAND. (.M model number)

I can't remember the exact difference between the two at the moment, but there was something on Anandtech at some point about it.
