Hey everyone, I'm planning on getting a couple of my friends a copy of Oblivion for their birthday (they are twins). They have a great PC except for the fact that it has onboard Intel Media Accelerator graphics, so I decided while I was at it I'd get him a new graphics card as well. I'm on an extreme budget here, though. About $50 is the most I can spend. I realize this limits my options, but I can get a GeForce 6500 for about $30. So, does anyone else have a 6500 that they have played Oblivion? If so, what were your settings? I'm not looking at something magical here, at least 800x600 with modest settings at 20 FPS outside would be more than fine. Thanks.

Im not even sure your going to get those numbers with that card unfortunately. Its a very demanding game.

Yeah, unless you turn everything off, you won't get that kind of performance.

I'd aim for an x1300 Pro as an absolute minimum, or a 7300 GT if you can afford it.

The GeForce 6500 is a faster-clocked 6200 TC, with 64-bit memory. It performs even slower than a 6600. NOT a good deal.

For example, this x1300 Pro is only $60 ($45 after MIR).

Then there's this 7300 GT for $80:

As you can see here, they just BARELY cut it for Oblivion.

NOTE: don't pay any mind to the incredibly fast 7300 GT in that article, it is heavily overclocked by the manufacturer, and costs more than the $80 part I linked above. A bog-standard 7300 GT is about %30 faster than a x1300 Pro, which reflects the price difference (before MIR).
