this is for those with verizon dsl in NYC

NYC people will get the Verizon DSL upgrade for 29.99. Ask for "NYC Metropolitan Promotion." This will upgrade you to the 3.0 mbps download/ 384 kbps upload. 1-800-567-6789. Upgrade requires 1 year contract and you get a free router. 99 dollar early cancellation fees.

hi guys
i called an hour ago to upgrade
before i was getting around 1.5-2.0mb/down , which is approx 180kb/sec
and i was paying 35

so i called em up, and 20 mins later
my dsl goes out, comes back on, and im hitting 350kb/sec
and its 5 bucks cheeper a month

awesome

btw im in bensonhurst brooklyn

i wish this was for every, i have verizon, but im in mass and my u/l has always benn under 128, even though they advertise 128

Damn it! I just called them and it was about to go through then the rep told I was too far from the central office an dmy speed would remain the same. :( Bahh my games are already mostly lagg free but wish I was able to down porn faster is all. :p

I have the $35 one. I dont think I can get higher speeds. If thats the case, then Im better of paying $35/mo. Why? Because you have to commit to a 1yr contract with them to save $5/mo and theyre iffy with their service at times. Their weakness is they take forever to fix problems and make up BS to not go to your house and do repairs. Once my DSL was screwed for 5 months because of this BS. If this happens and youre under contract, youre screwed. The $35/mo option requires no contract and if they start with the BS then you can cancel w/o penalties.

If the speed improves and youre sure youll have no problems then go for the $30 deal.

You mind me asking what kind of "BS" was made up? Rember that 99.9% of the time tech support has more info about your dsl and knows more about DSL than the customer does. I am just curious as to what was said that you concidered BS. I am in no ways trying to flame here, just wanted alittle more info about your 5 months with out service.

I called on tuesday, hoping to get a wireless router/modem for customer retention.

They informed me that i was eligible for a speed increase!

I have 3.0/768 now for $40 a month.

Phone tech support is good for minor stuff, but I rarely call for minor stuff. So they waste my time by running me thru a 1hr long guantlet of stuff that never fixes the problem. Then they send someone over.

My 5-6 month problem was phone line static. They sent someone over and he said there was no static. His hand held device detected no static. My static was sporadic andwent up and down in intensity. When it went up, I got a conn loss. I keep calling. Guys keep coming. Eventually one of them told me the truth.

The Truth
The phone company is only required to repair static that reaches a certain level which is considered unacceptable. Anything under that level is considered "OK" and wont be fixed. This 'acceptable' static level might interfere with my DSL connection, but since theyre not required to fix it, Im screwed.

After complaining, they gave me 5 free months to compensate for the problem, but a free useless service that I cant use is pointless to have so I bit the bullet and called cable. I got a stroke of luck. The Verizon guys made an unscheduled visit to my house and it turned out to be the same day and time as the Cable guys came to install my cable! 3 days later 2 DSL specialists (not the normal verizon guys) came over and fixed the problem which turned out to be in my apartment.

Do you know what the noise margin was? or the relative capacity? I am just curious as to what this guy said is "ok". Was this an analog tech or dsl tech? When dealing with dsl you have to deal with the fcc as phone service is regulated by the govt. As soon as internet is concidered a nesecity then all this will change and you will see that everything will move along much quicker. Now if you want to hear some truely disturbing things pm me and i will tell you (something about a nondisclosure aggreement  ).

JEEVES

As for the tech support, unfortunatly techs get in trouble if they do not trouble shoot the issue fully before escelating the issue. Believe me techs see it as a waste of time as well, and would prefer to just escilate the issue, but alas that is not possible. So the only thing I can say is: be as cooperative as you can, the more difficult you are the longer it takes.

I dont know about noise margins and whatnot. The guy was an analog guy. The basic phone verizon repair guy. The ones that finally repaired the DSL were DSL specialists specificaly for DSL. I guess when the analog guy ran into the cable guy (me in the middle) they got serious and sent the specialists over.

To stay on track (this is a hot deals forum after all), I took advantage of the deal. Even w/o a speed increase, I still save $5/mo and its fine unless I need repairs. Verizon DSL is a good service with good speed to $$ ratio. Its only when repairs are needed that they become problematic. As long as you dont need repairs, theyre one of the best.

I will PM for the info.

i use to have static on my phone line before i got dsl , which was around 3-4 years ago maybe. anyways. u can hear the static buzzin when u talk on the phone.. everyone noticed it .. even the ppl i would call. anyways, this shit pissed me off, and they said my phone line was fine, but it wasnt, becusae my 56k dialup was mad slow or w/e.. piss me off
anyways, when i jumped onto dsl.. .. the static was gone, lol. they might has changed the old wires or something

for 3.0mps for 30/month, its defintely not a bad dela

Thanks a lot man. I have Verizon DSL, before dl speeds were great now they are at 20 (ping is great, i was told it is due to line noise, but they tell everyone that) I will definately try this upgrade. :D
