Can I still write a check for that cup of coffee?
My wife is black and everyone in her family, extended family, and all her friends have credit cards and smart phones. I feel like it's kind of racist to assume they don't have those things.
well i'm white and got fucked over in the whole housing market crash and now my credit is fucked. so now i can't have a credit card or bank account. so now i'm not allowed to shop in certain places? i thought it says right on the face of paper money that it is "legal tender for all debts public and private" how is it even legal to run a business like that?
and so i actually to me it is racist and exclusionary.
so if they don't have to accept legal tender what is the currency for said business? sex? then how do they pay taxes on that?? .. oh ... i get it now...
How is it racist if the decision isnt based on your race? I mean one of the earlier posters was saying it would affect primarily black people. but youre white (which means its impossible to be racist against you right?) so...
I don't believe you.well i'm white and got fucked over in the whole housing market crash and now my credit is fucked. so now i can't have a credit card or bank account. so now i'm not allowed to shop in certain places? i thought it says right on the face of paper money that it is "legal tender for all debts public and private" how is it even legal to run a business like that?

See China's new social credit scheme.A post cashless society is very dystopian in practice. Surrenders an enormous amount of individual power.
Just look how casually you can lose your job kicked out of university, or banned from social media for speaking wrongthink. Now imagine all your purchases shutdown ? Buy a gun in a leftist state or an abortion in a theocracy and ban the level to which they can make you a non person is dystopian.

It's all your worst nightmares turned into reality.

There are both.Do banks and credit unions offer debit cards in the USA, or js it just credit all the way?

Tips should be taxed. One thing we should all consider in this move to cashless is the folks who depend on their tips to survive. Now a big chunk of that income is taken from you.
Waitresses, bartenders, cabbies, hairdressers and barbers among the many. Not only do they get taxed on their gratuities, the calculated total often pushes them into a higher tax bracket.
Tip with cash if you can.
I don't believe you.
There is no reason you can't have a bank account and debit card. Certain banks may not deal with you if you have an absurdly low credit rating but there are countless banks. Also, nobody else messed up your credit.
It's legal....because there is no law that places of business must take physical cash in exchange for goods/services. We're also talking about private businesses which do not owe you their products/services. You have no claim to them. Calling this exclusionary is silly and smacks of entitlement. Calling it racist is just...ugh.
Yup. Not too hard.I was thinking the same thing. I completely fucked my credit once. I went to a credit Union, got a limited account and after 6 months of not overdrafting had a regular account even though the rest of my credit was still screwed.
I don't really know your story but you can always get a bank account unless the reason you're refusing to get one is because there is an outstanding judgement against you and you're afraid of paying back money you actually owe. Secondarily, because you can get a bank account, you can get a debit card since there is no line of credit associated with this. Finally, you can always get something like a GreenDot prepaid credit card which would also give you access to the Visa network without actually being credit worthy.

Do any non minimum wage jobs even pay you by check anymore? Almost every employer I know now requires direct deposit so they dont have to mail checks. I dont know a single person who gets paid in cash though I am sure some do so they can avoid taxes. As for checks the only ones I see doing that are very low wage earners.
No thats not something to consider because you just advocating tax evasion. I am not sure why you think tips should not be taxed but they ARE income. You do know that those waiters/waitresses etc get a wage less than minimum wage in most cases and their tips are what brings them above that right?
BTW tipping is very regressive, classist, and racist. Tipping dates back to the feudal system and is based on noblesse oblige. It has a real dark history (even here in the US). Tipped workers who are non white typically receive LESS in tips than white workers. Also nonwhite patrons generally receive lower quality service than white patrons. http://www.tippingresearch.com/uploads/Business_Considerations_Tipping_final.pdf So yeah dont tip in cash and dont support such a racist method of paying workers. Instead demand that the places you frequent pay their workers minimum wage or include an appropriate service charge.
While what you are staying about tipping is technically true, don't patron establishments where workers rely on tipping if you don't tip. You are simply screwing the person providing the service over and not affecting the business in any way. Don't punish the person who has no control over it. You have no idea why they are working that job.
No worries, it wasn't clear what you meant. I know far too many anti tip types who eat out or use delivery services all the time and screw over the service provider. It's like "no, you aren't teaching that business anything. You are just screwing that person over because you're a douche."I didn't say I didn't tip. I said don't support the establishments that do. I rarely eat out so its usually a noop for me. But if I do eat out and they are a tip based restaurant I tip on the credit card unless its a cash only place and then I had the cash directly to the server. Cash gets stolen. Ive seen "bus boys" pocket it, Ive seen other patrons pick it up off tables. Credit ensures it at least gets something to the server.

A) You are advocating tax evasion
B) Your ignorance of being pushed into a higher tax bracket wand what it means is quite telling. You do realize that when you cross into the next bracket, only that income above that bracket is taxed at the higher rate? Or did you think it was all your income? No matter what more income = more money in your pocket.
C) If that being pushed into a higher income level causes them to loses government benefits...not only do you condone tax evasion but you also condone fraud. The point of those programs is to help people who can't get their income up...
But this is all okay because you are "sticking it to the man". To bad the man isn't getting "stuck"...it is the employees that work for them.
Could be a safety issue. Nothing for a robber to steal. Don't have to worry about employees ripping you off.I don't understand why a business would want to be cashless. Electronic payment processing is usually around 2%.
Debt is something that is owed or due. When you buy a product or service it is just a debt that is due at time of tender or service.Legal tender for all DEBTS. A sale purchase is NOT a debt. You do not take out a loan from a store or restaurant to buy products, the place of business is not fining you. You are making a sales PURCHASE, not paying off a debt owed. It's not rocket science.

This statement is factually incorrect. There is no debt being incurred during a purchase. Derangel has it right. When you buy a product or service it is just a debt that is due at time of tender or service.
Holly crap dude! You must be a laugh at a party.A) You are advocating tax evasion

You're still supporting illegal behavior. I don't know what kind of people you associate with and will not make assumptions but dodging taxes doesn't make you 'cool'. It makes you a scumbag and quite possibly, a criminal.Holly crap dude! You must be a laugh at a party.
Tips have always been a way of showing gratitude for a service. They aren't an employee of yours, so FUCK the government for digging their hands in the smallest of pockets.
