NVIDIA teases RTX 2080 in a short official video full of hints

Some of us here totally called it on the nose: $800 for the 2080, $1000 for the 2080 ti. Those prices are batshit insane, especially considering the only real 4k option will be 2080 ti.

nVidia is asking $800 for their cut-down chip. Just let that settle in for a second.

If you kids thought lack of competition was killing our hobby last gen, this is a railroad spike-size nail in the coffin.

I'm hoping marketplace reality sets in and people hold onto their cash if the performance doesn't match the pricing. If I get a card that's 50% better than my current 1080 Ti for $1000 then it's worth it to me.

However, I don't think NV will sell as many 2080 Ti models for that price as they did 1080 Ti, same goes for the 2080 versus 1080.

Who would pay $800 for a card that's supposedly (2080) only 7-8% faster than a 1080 Ti when you can just buy the 1080 Ti for a lot less?

I suspect we'll see these readily available on store shelves once the early adopters buy their cards.

I'm still not convinced on the prices. PNY's site has the same version of the 1080ti for $899, which is obviously way more than most. The fact that they also aren't $X99 prices leads me to believe they're definitely placeholder prices. Obviously $1000 could just drop to $999, but again, I point to their 1080ti price. The $100 price gap between the cards is what I was thinking we'd see, which would put most 2080tis at $799 MSRP.

The only reason a person would buy a 2080 RTX is ray tracing or the just want to upgrade from Maxwell or whatever or if the cards have extra long PCBs and no room for them. I think the graphic card market will dictate Atx case size for years to come.

Based on those PNY specs, the RTX use MORE power (285W TDP for both) vs. 250W and 180W for the Maxwell 1080Ti and 1080, respectively. Maybe that is on purpose to discourage using them for mining? :D

EDIT looks like the extra power is for the ray tracing portion, but I would still have thought the overall TDP would have been less than Maxwell.

Reviewers must be very tight lipped if they have samples already. The youtubers usually like to post teases and stuff.
All the leaks suggest an expedient launch. I'd say 1 week.

Assuming the 2080 is 10% faster than the 1080 Ti, those sp counts put the 2080 Ti about 50% above the 1080 Ti.
It smells like a $1k GPU frankly.

The 2080/Ti sp disparity is actually 47% compared to the 1080/Ti at 40%, an increase of 17.5%.

50% faster???!

You don't they'll reverse their trend and release a Titan variant after the initial release?

Welp.

Need me a water block for that 2080ti. Thing is I've barely played any graphically intense games for a year... but I want it.

Curse you brain, curse you.

idk If I can wait that long this 980ti is getting long in the tooth at 1440p

I feel you here. Mines starting to get on my nerves. I have the money/credit to get a 2080Ti, I just can't justify 999.99 vs. the 649.99 I paid for the 980Ti. I am honestly thinking about taking a break from this hobby till 2020. 16+ months till some real competition. Wish the Nvidiots at the launch Monday would stand and turn their back at Jensen soon as he mentions pricing.

Oh wtf am I kidding. I will end up with a 1080Ti. I can't go that long without a graphics card update.

There's a few more price leaks in the last few hours putting the Ti at 1200 and 2080 at 800. This was one of the custom Zotac flagships.

Starting to look like $1k msrp.

So....scramble to order online after today's announcement, or take a chance at my local MicroCenter tomorrow morning?

I guess they don't want to sell many if that's the case. $800 for an X80 is a bridge too far and I wouldn't pay that again, but to each his own.

I was excited about the 2080 and 2080TI, but not at these rumored prices. I spent the weekend flirting with the used 1080ti's on EBAY. They seemed to be going for $500 - $550, but I thought it was too much considering a brand new 2080 might be had for $650 or $700. If they really are ~$800 and perform similar to the 1080ti anyway, then I'll find something to grab from the old stock.

I'm running an R9 290 that I bought almost 5 years ago. Won't hurt me to wait a little longer.

Idk, it's at most going to be 50% faster than the 1080 Ti, which is a $650 card right now. Nearly double the price for 50% more performance is hard to swallow. The 1080 Ti is 1.5 years old already and this is a new gen. Price to perf is supposed to get better, not worse.

If jensen takes the stage and drops a 2080 Ti at 1k there's going to be a shitstorm of biblical proportions. Should have called it a Titan, but then we are still missing a 2070 at launch.

That's my thinking as well. I sold off my dual 1080 tis (one sold in Feb, another a few weeks back) and have been waiting for 2080 using my venerable 780 ti. If these prices are true, I'm likely picking up a used 1080 ti right quick.

The essential point to consider is you'll likely need to jump on a used one quickly. As soon as the prices are release, and if these prices are true, my guess is whatever used 1080/ti listings are left will either be scooped up or removed.

$500ish is the going rate for 1080tis right now. Check the F/S forums here as I have one there myself but there are others in that range too.

Agree that Sept 27th seems like a placeholder...but I also doubt that MC will have stock tomorrow on August 21st either.
