I figured the Switch die-shrunk SOC would eventually make it's way into both lineups. Nintendo just has priority.

While all of the upgrades are probably just software updates, locking the new Atmos to the upgraded system seems like the best way forward to me - otherwise, noone will buy it.

These things are primarily used as streaming devices for control freaks, and the secondary performance improvements are marginal.

I fear you're correct. Hate to put out another $200 after I just bought the 2017 model for the same price a few years ago. I guess ill stick to the apple tv 4k for Dolby Vision until this is in the budget.

Best buy has been putting them out early. Grabbed a pro yesterday. Started out good but it's giving my Denon receiver fits. From while watching a video through mrmc and now only get static through the receiver. Still good through the tv.

Been enjoying mine. Not a huge upgrade but I loved the first shield so had to get this one.

I see no need to upgrade my two 2017 Shields for this. Atmos is already working fine in MrMC and my TV doesn't support Dolby Vision.

I'll probably wait for the inevitable price drop to $140 like I did with the first Shield. (which I bought exactly one year ago)

Can anyone that has the new model and the 2017 gaming edition confirm if the outer casing of the unit itself is the same or not? Looking at getting a skin for the new model but obviously nobody has the 2019 design yet.

Thanks for that. Now to find some place that sells the skin for the unit by itself since the remote and controller skin will be useless and a waste of money. LOL.
