I have the two cards, I want to know if I can SLI them. They're both 4gb models. My board won't boot with both of them in, so I can't test it. If they will SLI together I'll look at buying a new board, but don't want to buy a new one if it won't work.

Mix and match works as long as cores are the same. Perhaps it's a weird bug you have, but it should work. I ran two different 660ti cards in sli and it worked well (one was the reference card and another one was a factory oc model).

SLI will definitely work with both (as per Koween) -- just keep in mind that both cards will perform at the lowest core clocks (in your case, the "regular" NVIDIA GTX 980).

IMO don't bother with the buying a new board just for SLI support.

Sell both, and get a 1070 / pocket the rest, or stretch for a 1080.
