Guys I am reading on the net that Nvidia is gimping the last gen cards to make the 900 series look better? Does anyone know anything about this? Currently I own a 780 Ghz edition but I run Linux so I have not seen any issues but I dont play Witcher 3 or the new Cars game. I am a bit surprise to see the 780 falling under the 290 and 290x and the 960 being at the same rate as the 780.

Does anyone know whats going on?

Some people call it gimping, others say it's nvidia driver problems. Your pick.

But the fact is, the 7xx series performance is falling behind quickly it seems in recent game releases relative to AMD cards they once outpaced.

I haven't done any in depth analysis but all I know is GTA V and Witcher 3 are performing better for me in my HTPC (gtx 670/FX 8320)with rolled back drivers 347.88 than the current ones supposedly optimized for the new games. I wanna believe its placebo but same settings my frames have noticeably gone up with the older drivers. Theres tons of gimped Kepler posts in the Geforce forums. an Nvidia employee even posted in the same forums that a Kepler fix was coming soon, but other than that theres been no official Nvidia acknowledgment or replies to any of those threads, so we'll see.

Given all of the recent dirt and scandal surrounding Nvidia nowadays, I wouldn't put it past them to kill kepler performance in order to make maxwell look more appealing considering the new architecture mostly focused on efficiency with a smaller performance increase compared to previous generations. Also all those bribes to developers to gimp AMD cards for Gamework games costs money, if you recently bought Maxwell your money went to them, so why should Kepler users get a free piggyback :D

I wonder if [H] should do some serious testing to see if this is true.

Jesus Christ has this stupidity spilled over from Reddit to [H] now? Just because one older driver works better than a new driver in one game doesn't mean Nvidia is going out of their way to screw 7xx series owners.

They changed the drivers, so they knew exactly what impact said changes would have on their previous series of cards. What, you only think they test drivers on the current generation before release?

They knew that Kepler cards were going to run worse, and they didn't give two shits. They never do, unless people find out about something and subsequently raise a stink.

Nvidia and AMD roll out drivers with issues all the time.
You think AMD releases broken CF profiles and Nvidia release card frying drivers on purpose?

It's actually more than one game and its been a documented occurrence going back to Fermi, supposedly same thing happened right around the same time Kepler came out during Fermi.

I would just roll back the driver.
I remember using an AMD driver for over 5 months because the new series drivers had adverse effects.

do some google searches, the old benchmarks havent gone anywhere, you'll clearly see around a 20% difference in relative terms between cards comparing older game benchmarks. I'm not blaming anyone, I just want answers why my card runs worse with every new driver after Maxwell was released.

Just because a card runs slower on newer drivers doesn't mean that Nvidia gimped the card. I wouldn't say that they suck at making drivers or appeasing their customers with proprietary tech like Hairworks. It's probably working as intended and they want their customers to step up to the new generation of cards. Is that too much to ask of the peons?

At any rate it's what Nvidia wants and they have a firm pulse on the state of PC gaming. Just trust that they will make the best choices for you. You want a Titan X to replace that lowly Titan you bought last year. You know it and with the recent driver changes you finally have a reason to step up to the plate!

    Just do it!

Makes business sense. Apple does it all the time with there Iphones....Great business strategy.

Awful company practice for consumers, but its the best way to make people upgrade.

I do not like it at all.

There were a bunch of these posts during the Fermi-Kepler transition with becnhmark graphs being compared with older ones, you can probably still find most of these with google searches if they havent been scrubbed by now.

I'm too lazy to dig up everything right now and frankly dont care enough, found this in my bookmark page documenting some of it:

    http://www.reddit.com/r/AMD/wiki/sabotage

I own both brands of cards so don't owe allegiance to any one manufacturer, but sometimes things need to be brought to the light or we'll continue getting screwed as consumers.

Yes, clearly a bunch of butt hurt AMD fans collecting links are the best source for unbiased Nvidia technical information. And omigosh, they are mad about Gameworks / PhysX which are completely optional things which developers choose to use

Who said anything about AMD? This is about Kepler and the poor support they have right now.

Driver update? Ill believe it when I see it. Nvidia has dropped the ball on driver stability the last 8-9 months.
