DLSS is where it's at, Ray Tracing itself is nice but a novelty at the his point, until games can actually use the lighting and reflections in a meaningful way.

  2. I'm hoping for the best but my judgement is out. Given the fps I see with rtx on I'm not encouraged on that front

Other than that these could be a worthy upgrade for vr or 4k. But I'm sitting this out till I know more

Less than 2x as fast for 2x the price, YEARS later. Ray tracing is a gimmick that slows you down to 720p non 60fps. Your other points about AMD are meaningless. This is not a good product. This is not progress.

DLSS is still a question mark...will it be better then TAA and SMAA?...with all the mix/match AA options plus ReShade etc I don't see DLSS being that big of a deal...SSAA and MSAA will still be the best overall AA (but with a major hit on performance)

Has Kyle/Hard indicated whether they have a 2080 in hand? I know they declined to sign the NDA, and will wait until they have formal release hardware and drivers for their review, but have they indicated if they have one in hand to play with until then?

I do not expect them to publish anything until their formal review, just curious.

Says the group with nothing more than marketing leaks.

Seriously you three, and others, so desperate to believe everything nVidia has said. Wait for the real reviews, or flush your money away pre ordering but realize you are part of the pre-order problem plaguing the industry.

I'll happily wait for reviews. My money is on a 20% average increase over pascal, with 30% on occasion and 40% on select scenes.

At this price point, I'll also wager that I have no problem picking one up post launch.

Hmm might sell off my 2 x1080's and pick up a 2080ti so I don't have to deal with SLI any more. Wonder how well the 2080ti will over clock since I'll have a full cover water block on it.

That 2080ti sits right about where I would expect the ~700$ successor to the 1080ti to sit. Shame they decided to push a card that's nearly the same speed as an 18 month old 1080ti into the 800$ slot and instead try and charge 1200$ for the upgrade. Ah well, just makes my day 1 1080ti look that much better in comparison.

The videocardz article that this post is based on? From literally nvidia themselves? Also they compare their overclocked 20xxs with stock standard 10xxs.

Nvidia is using paid shills I guess. Can't be people actually think like this.

Lies. There aren't any ray tracing benchmarks there. You claimed they could only run 720p60 and are making it up. Sorry you're caught!

    GLQuake numbers?

Ray tracing enhanced games are meaningless now. By the time more games support it (assuming it becomes a "standard"), the next gen card will blow these out of the water.

Looking forward to some real reviews.

Screw nVidia. But to be fair, I'm not giving up much, because I don't buy anywhere near the top of market. $200-$250 is more my speed, and AMD is plenty competitive in that price range.

Avoiding nVidia and their shady b.s. is much tougher if you want to game @4k/60.

That's the last time I'll say it. Dont reply to me.

I didn't know you already had performance metrics for ray tracing considering even the developers haven't finished implementing it in their games. Can you tell me which stocks will take off in the next few years using your crystal ball so I can invest early?

The price is a major detractor for me.

To pay over 1k for the 2080ti I would need it to provide significant improvements right now.

    I play, now, at 4k.

Rpg, mmo, type games are fine add long as they don't go below 20-30 fps and are not tearing. I've found some game engines are still responsive at sub 20, others 30+.

At 4k with everything maxed most games play fine for me.

If you have different needs that's fine. I am not going to do fps flame wars.

The only thing right now I can't max is Grim Dawn and turning off vsync for some godawful reason fixed it.

I plan on replacing my 1060 6gb when the new cards are released. I am not getting one but plan on grabing a used 1080ti. The 1060 can bairly handle 1440 165hz and it has the fan on vacume cleaner volume while I OCed the shit out of it.

numbers are good, pricing is not, so no, not for me this generation. I really hope AMD can release something to challenge them, those prices are insane :)

For me DLSS sounds interesting, but I have some caution lights going off about it. From an article I read at RPS the quote that really makes me uneasy is:
That makes me a bit wary since it will require intervention from Nvidia to use, which means the dev must sign up for what ever program Nvidia deems necessary to use it, and we know Nvidia has never abused their partner programs before.

These cards are aimed at 4k gaming.....but game developers are targeting 60fps at 1080p with ray tracing enabled??????

The % increase, looking to be about 45% average, is nice. The price is a bit skewed though. It's like they think the mining craze is still going on. Sure, they took 10 years to develop the tech/chip, but we've all helped pay for that in our past nVidia card purchases. I think $800 for the Ti would have been a no brainer, I'd already have one preordered. I'm hoping that in a few months, the prices will come under $1000, then I will be swayed..

Really interested in seeing the reviews. Hoping [H] will review all the same games at the same settings as they did in the big nvidia and AMD reports they are compiling. Also really interested in how the nVlink works, since it seems to do more than the old SLI bridges did.

I heard this same argument before. What was it now? Oh, that's right ... EV chargers for Tesla's ...

When I'm at 4K@60FPS with HDR on I will be sure to tell you how much I feel like an "early adopter" and how unhappy I am.

There's a lot of ways to look at this. I'm not sure I would have picked the deep end.

I actually plan on forcing vsync on now that I have more than enough power to guarantee me 4K@60FPS ... something my 1080 ti could never live up to.

I want to know what some of these games are doing that are so damn difficult. Tomb Raider is getting 40fps in 4K on a 1080Ti? How? What is it doing that the likes of The Division isn't that some how makes it run like shit?

Why is it that year after year game performance decreases while visuals don't?

Bungie needs to add Ray Tracing in Destiny 2 so the game looks like a total welding torche.

There isn't one game with Ray Tracing at launch next week fyi.

What I'm seeing here is that 1080Ti is just fine for 4k@60hz. And since my TV is 60hz, there's absolutely no need to upgrade until a 40" 4k@90/120hz is out.

What I'm seeing is that you either buy a 2080Ti or you buy a used 1080Ti. The 2080 is irrelevant at $250-300 more than a 1080Ti.
