Which is a damn shame for most of us...yup, looks like hybrid coolers are the way of the future. Rumor has it the 390X will sport one, too.
Is it a problem that my Titan X idles at 63*C?
Seems very high... mine idles around 32C. Is it not downclocking when idle?
that is extremely high idle temp
where do you live

My Monitor and GPU are ready. 3440X1440 with Titan X OCed Uber w/ Gameworks
I live in southern California so that shouldn't be the problem. I just looked at the temp right after I took my comp out of sleep mode and it was sitting at 33*C. However, the card typically stays around the 63*C range when I'm browsing the internet or anywhere on the desktop.
Here's a pic of HWMonitor while I'm typing this post with nothing else running in the background:
Did I just get a bad card or do I need to actively control the fans or something? All I did was install the card, install the drivers, and didn't mess with any fan profiles or anything.
I question a single Titan X being enough for 3440x1440 or 3840x2160 uber settings and gameworks.
Its your 144hz desktop you need to lower it to 120hz in desktop mode, its bug with nvidia drivers and G-sync will not drop the clock to idle 2d powerstate at 144hz will keep 3D clocks at higher powerstate hence your idle temps.
Oh wow, thanks for that advice! No way I would've figured that out in a million years. Is there a way to have it automatically switch between 120hz in desktop mode and then 144hz in gaming mode? Or would I have to manually do it every time.
If you try to keep the Titan X under 80 deg. C with 1300+ core then it will sound like a mini vacuum, leaving everything at default will make it sound just a tiny bit louder than an 980 ACX 2.0. Probably the best cooler right now for the Titan X is the evga hybrid cooler for the 980 (fits the Titan X).For those of you who have happened to have a decently quiet GTX 980 (Like the MSI Twin Frozr,) and have upgraded to a Titan X, can you give a comparison of the noise difference?
I'm willing to spend the money on the Titan X, but not if it it sounds like a vacuum cleaner. The reviews I've read on the Titan X don't really sound like they test noise levels very well.
Thanks.

So if you leave it at default, and don't try to run anything 4k, it'll be a tiny bit louder? Did I get that right?
I'm not too thrilled with installing an aftermarket gpu cooler these days either. I used to be, but I'm not as much of an enthusiast anymore.
Yes, leaving everything at stock and the card will be fairly quiet, but the clock will hover around 1080 to 1100 with my titan x. Oced to 1340 give me a massive boost of fps in gta v (avg fps from 39 to 51) which is mandatory to make the game playable@2160p.
The only issue I have with the evga hybrid cooler is will they start to make brackets for future cards or will they always sell as a kit? The other issue is the 120mm radiator vs having a 140mm one. The thing that I like about using like a H90 with a bracket is that I can keep using the watercooler and just change out brackets when I get a new card and sell the titan x with the original blower re installed.
What fan speed % does the titan x get up to when running things at 1080p at standard clocks? I listened to a video, above 50% the noise was kinda out of control, in my opinion.
I can also only imagine what GTA5 looks like at your resolution. That's damn nice.
Everything at stock, the fan speed hovers around 45% from my observation in valley bench at 1080p. My central AC duct's noise kind of drown out the computer noise so its not that loud imo.
microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol is my preferred wayOrdered my EVGA kit for my Titan X from Amazon, will see what happens..
Got some Arctic cleaner to remove the thermal compound, what you guys using to rub it off?
I hear microfiber or coffee filter?
microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol is my preferred way
ok thanks i will use microfiber cloth with the cleaning solution.
The kit comes with new compound yeah?
The cleaning kit is just for cleaning... you need to buy the thermal compound separately.
So there is none included with the kit?
In the EVGA All-In-One kit? It's already applied to the heatsink for you
ah nice, thank you.
What torx head drivers do i need/
t6 and t5 if I remember correctly.
They are actually hex and not torx. You can use the torx but becareful not to strip them. I used a 5/64 hex bit for the larger ones and I believe a t6 for the smaller ones. I was too lazy to go find a small enough hex bit in the garage .
