NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Founders Edition Review @ [H]

Let's not forget you can run 980 sli.. can't do that with the 1060.

My 7 year old son is getting my 980sli with my former pc since I'm upgrading from my z97 system. Just got him a new asus 27" 144hz monitor to go with it.

Only thing I don't like is that I'll have to tweak the settings in a lot of games to get it smooth for 1440 since it only have 4gb vram. :/ spoiled with 1080sli.

For 1440p you're probably better off jumping to the GTX 1070. GTX 1060 is more suitable for 1080p gaming.

Nvidia kinda dropped the ball on the 1060. The price point is correct, but the performance is wanting. The Radeon RX 480 which doesn't even beat the GTX 970 wipes the floor with the 1060.

I'm moving from a GTX 680 to a GTX 1060 GTX. I mostly play in 2560x1440 (or 2560x1600) on my 30". Do you guys think I'll see an solid increase in performance?

I do hear 1060 might not be best for 1440, but I'm happy with the GTX 680 and if I get a solid boost, then great.

Just...where did you get that info? If I'm reading that right, you're saying 970 > 480 >> 1060? Because you state the 480 doesn't beat the 970 (970 > 480), and the 480 wipes the floor with the 1060 (480 >> 1060). Just...no.

MSI GeForce GTX 1060 OC 6 GB Review

At all resolutions tested, it's 1060 > 480 > 970. You have it completely backwards. Here's the 1080p chart for reference.

1060 is basicly a 980 and then 1070 is like a 980ti.

Run a 1080 at 1440 with everything maxed.. but run 2 at sli if ya want to max out the frame rate if your monitor can run at 144-164hz.

Titan xp is like 20-30% faster then a single 1080. Though 2x 1080 sli will kick major tail with benches and games that will use sli. Like most fps games.

You are right, let me correct myself.

The 1060 slots between the 980 and the 970 in performance.

The RX 480 only wipes the floor with 1060 in certain games, particularly Vulkan and DX12.

The 1060 is not as fast as the 980, but it should be faster than the 680.

As for 1440p gaming, I'd still recommend the 1070 over the 1060.

Losing the SLI support on the 1060 was kind of a kick in the nuts and limits upgradeability via the SLI path.

Your 7 year old has 980 SLI and a 27" 144 Hz monitor? What kind of games does he play?

I would guess Pokemon Go... LOL

If those are the hand-downs, I wouldn't mind getting adopted into that kind of family! ;)

No the mother wouldn't let him have a 27" 1440 g-sync screen :/

Settled with a new 24" 1080 144 asus monitor.. no g-sync but not like he'll notice much with the frame rate maxed out using the 980 sli! Hehe

Would of been nice to score that new 34" ultra wide g-sync screen from asus but at $1200 wife wouldn't even let me finish the sentence when I mentioned it heh.

He likes the same games I do and can't wait to let the wife know that we'll be needing to buy 2 copies of battlefield 1 and Titan fall 2 and call of duty when they hit.

Your 7-year-old son is playing Battlefield 1?

He must be mature for his age.

Yeah he's pretty decent at them.. uses a Xbox controller atm. Looking forward to show him how to use a mouse and keyboard.

Pretty lucky kid I'd say.. really beats the atari 2600 I grew up with! Haha

He also likes to play all the transformer games and plants vs zombie.

Just bought a 1060 EVGA 6gb SC for a Node 202 case for my daughter, $239 at Newegg. SFF case the lower power card won out over the Rx 480. Decided against a blower type card due to noise making a the less powered 1060 seem more ideal plus was cheaper then any 8gb Rx 480 I could find. The AIB 1060's look to be way better then the Founders version, maybe HardOCP should take a look at some of the AIB 1060's for a review.

I installed a blower edition (AKA Founders Edition) 1060 in my nephews first gaming rig. Before I left I ran it through the ringer with stress test. I could barely hear it. I think it puts out such little heat (relatively speaking) that it doesn't need a high speed fan. But you couldn't go wrong with your choice either. It's certainly a lot cheaper than a FE.

Cost did play a factor, ASUS had a non OC blower type 1060 and price was $249, almost bought that except a few noted it was louder then they wanted. The Node 202 has a place for two 120mm fans, I bought two Silver stone slim fans to go there, I should have good enough airflow in the gpu compartment plus the rather stellar low power requirements for Pascal should make this work. Will post once received, put in and tested.
