Geez, even more shady shit from NVIDIA. I don't see why they're being such shitbags when they're already the top dog in the industry. There's no way this crap is helping their business.

Its funny I said once before when GPP was released that this kind of thing is usually done when you know your upcoming product is not going to perform like you want it to. I did say it's speculation on my part and I had no other proof other then Nvidia trying to control things. Now we have a media day designed to showcase the card and they avoid actual performance numbers until backlash hits and they release that horrible chart that was more about DLSS then anything else. Now they have decided to control the message the media presents us on the upcoming launch reviews, yeah I think my hunch was correct. I don't think this generation turned out like Nvidia had hoped it would.

nVidia doesn't have to take anyone to court in order to get their pound of flesh. If an AIB vendor sends out a card to a non-approved reviewer, nVidia will somehow come up short on inventory when it's time to resupply that vendor. If a reviewer breaks the NDA, that reviewer can forget about reviewing another nVidia product.

Thats not what I am saying... NVidia is free to give or not give review samples to whomever and they are also free to try to exert their influence over their partners to not provide samples to whomever as well. And yes, AIB manufactures could have actual losses if taken to court regardless of whether they won or lost in court. What I said was in reference to HardOCP only. Picking on someone (especially a small website) for doing an honest review on a product is never a good idea in the court of public opinion. I am saying HardOCP has options to get review samples (if they want to go that route) as it would be fairly easy to circumvent the broad terminology of the agreement.

So we're approaching driver drm aren't we? Always on connection to approved ip's only that nvidia has a constant webcam feed to in order to verify only authorized reviewers are handling the cards?

Holy cow batman, why did you type this over the intarweb ? You want to give an executive an idea ? (Because it can't come from lower anyway)

Kyle I can't remember if you've touched on this, come to think of it you most likely have, but what do you think are the implications of all this NDA shenanigans on card reviews? Say do you think it's going to influence the text in between the graphs and charts and the conclusions at the end? Encouraging reviewers to err on the side of positivity?

See you have to assume then that just about ALL the big review sites are .. 'tainted' now. I don't really buy that they'd go about fudging their data but I do buy they would massage the text to go with it.

So we're approaching driver drm aren't we? Always on connection to approved ip's only that nvidia has a constant webcam feed to in order to verify only authorized reviewers are handling the cards?

I'd say that's quite possible but if they did it would be uproar and quickly retired.

Right or wrong in the end is what matters in a court of "Law", but the one with the deeper pockets generally wins. If the disparity of money is large enough, it's the poorer party that won't make it to the "end" especially if they go bankrupt and can't pay their lawyers.

And as far as Nvidia taking [H] to court, I can't see a scenario where they wouldn't want to for any reason they could just to sh*t on Kyle for the GPP PR hit they took.

Again, all I am saying is HardOCP has way more leverage than they realize. And if I had to bet, I would say they are more scared of him vs. the other way around.

Yeah, I was ready to do that with the 3.5 GB GTX 970 issue. But now as back then, AMD has absolutely no competing products.

nVidia should be slapped, publicly.

If you meant to say "AMD has no competitive products with nVidia's 1080 TI or Titan XP." Then you would be correct. All other market segments (including professional and mass market) are covered by AMD rather nicely.

All I have to say is the day the NDA lifts ought to be more interesting than usual. Kyle should have some interesting thoughts regardless if he has a review sample or not.

Kyle i don't see the issue here. You wouldn't review with 'Reviewer only' drivers anyway. you would give us real world numbers we can get with real world drivers not some specially clocked super editions.

This is Capitalism 101,: Market share. Quarterly reports. Election cycles. Monopolies. It's just like Comcast's behavior when they have market control in small cities with little to no competition.
.

Corporatism.

This is some Soviet-era shit.

sounds a bit like:

" Corporate communism: A government > OR < corporate system that is funnelling money=power=control from the masses to a few select individuals, at the cost of competition and choice "

Very good job indeed Nvidia. My stock shares continue to rise and make money. I hope they don’t change a god damn thing.

You don’t want to sign the NDA, then stop bitching. Buy the card and do the reviews on your own when they become available. No NDA required.

Please explain how the government is helping Nvidia.

Really?
it was a quote, Not a direct reference. The " / " indicates an "either / Or ". I thought this was common knowledge. I will amend the quote with an OR so others don't get too confused.

The REALITY is that most discrete graphics card sales are $400 and below...and AMD is competing nicely in that market. The market for 1080ti and higher priced cards is only 5% or less of the overall market. Great for bragging rights, not so impactful on the actual bottom line for either company.
In the past this might be true. But right now the most money coming from the high end segment even if the segment does not have the most volume. JPR report for gaming hardware revenue for 2016 show that most of the revenue generated by high end hardware sales. Even AMD admit this openly in their presentation. That's why Frontier Edition exist.

Do you have a source? I am curious. I think it’s a bit higher than that and way higher by revenue.

So if reviewers can't get their hands on review sample can't them just secure one for themselves? About driver you might not be able to publish at the exact time when NDA lift but is it a problem? Because i know there will be people going to wait for [H] review before making decision even when they were late.

Dude just because you are benefited doesn't mean unethical practices are ethical. Do you really believe Nvidia really needs to do this with the position they currently have? They sell their cards regardless. They are just using their power to control the reviews and how publishers brake news stories and lock down the AIBs. Their stock prices are rising because they have a good product not because they are being bunch of control freaks lol.

NV is betting that there are enough people like him still willing to buy their cards when they make moves like this

It’s up to us to prove them wrong

I don't know about the numbers of your voting. 846 say no. But how many members are there really? Thousands and thousands. So that number to me is very low. So what's they actually say about the whole thing. Hey look you now have a member that has 1,000,001 post!! A Million post how does he have time to live.

https://hardforum.com/members/whygrimwhy.311993/

Since I do not know the exact number of registered members on this site, let us assume that [H] has one million registered members...

At this time the total tally of the Yes and No is at;
Yes - 414 ~33%
No - 848 ~66%

Total Votes - 1262

Assuming a confidence level of 95% the Margin Error would be only ~ +/-3% this tells us by a quite WIDE margin that the people (members of this community) agree with the NO vote.

And as for that member with 1,000,001 posts, etc... That's Kyle's own SON and he's a honorary member, these are fiction post counts and such. You ask how does he have the time to live? I'll tell you how - He BEAT CANCER!

I think now its a bigger deal. Alot of reviewers are in Nvidia's pockets, its just that way because they are in dominant position. I mean they are sort of forced to do it. Because what else are they going to review, right? Not everyone is like Kyle. Pretty much GPP seems to have turned in to Control the AIB program. They are just locking things down through the AIBs.

Like the youtube guy who recently had send back his sponsored equipment because his host said somethings about preordering the new cards. It wasn't Nvidia directly but I can bet Nvidia is pushing AIBs to be more strict. Kinda like behind the scenes. This news just feels it is Indeed Nvidia pulling the strings on AIBs.

I really did not say there was an issue, simply letting you know what is going on. On launch reviews, we pretty always have to use the drivers supplied to us, but we can get those from various sources. The long and the short of it is that NVIDIA is controlling who exactly gets to review AIB cards by not allowing AIBs to distribute drivers. I have never seen this happen before...ever.

Sad thing is you need to be ruthless if you want to survive in this cut throat industry. Just look at what happen on Imagination Technologies. They think Apple will always be "honest" with them. It's fine if Apple simply stop licensing their IP but Apple pretty much take theirs and called it their own.

I'd say mark it up reasonably and send it to them anyway. See if they execute it. Worst thing that can happen is they don't.

If you're somewhat level headed, sometimes you reach a point in the decision making process where common sense dictates what you'll do. It's like my own thoughts about the iPhone: it's the gift that keeps on giving (to Apple).

Now where did I leave my box of chocolates... "Sgt Dan? Sgt Dan?"

I guess Kim Jong-Un (Jen-Hsun Huang) Needs his cheer squad (anyone willing to sign the NDA) or he might launch his nukes at us....

This seals the deal, I'm not buying any more nvidia cards. I don't know what they have going on at nvidia HQ but this kind of stuff is asinine.
