Yeah, when we're talking about something as do it yourself as putting together a computer and then you see half the people with no problems and half who with nothing but problems I have to wonder. The 790 is the first product that people have bitched and complained about that I bought and didn't have any issues.
Some of the problems are no doubt user error. Now that does mean that at the very least the 790 may have some user friendless issues, and it did seem to have some data corruption issues related to FSB overclocking as more than one professional review pointed it out. And to me a smart user would have said "If I get this motherboard I'm not going to overclock the FSB!". Since I got an EE CPU it was a moot issue for me.
