Nvidia 790i cancelled, defective chipsets and bad laptop GPUs.

Yeah, when we're talking about something as do it yourself as putting together a computer and then you see half the people with no problems and half who with nothing but problems I have to wonder. The 790 is the first product that people have bitched and complained about that I bought and didn't have any issues.

Some of the problems are no doubt user error. Now that does mean that at the very least the 790 may have some user friendless issues, and it did seem to have some data corruption issues related to FSB overclocking as more than one professional review pointed it out. And to me a smart user would have said "If I get this motherboard I'm not going to overclock the FSB!". Since I got an EE CPU it was a moot issue for me.

A lot of people have complained about the 790i, and there have been a lot of reported issues on it. This is probably why big name manufacturers canceled it. 680i was horrid and had all kinds of issues.

That or the logical, Nehalem is getting released, the 790i doesn't have support for it and the X58 will have SLI support so no one will buy it so if you don't have one on the market it is to late to make them.

How about BigCactus makes a request to have this moved to the Motherboard section? This does not fit here in any way, shape or form.

Basically, the thread is off-topic. BigCactus FTL.

Yet the 680i was somehow popular... I heard there was alot of reported issues with every freakin motherboards out there. SB600 southbridge, 770/780G capacitor issues, X48 chipset running hot, AGP cards being forced into PCI-E slots, cranberry sauce used for liquid cooling, etc.

Intel, Nvidia, and AMD need to all stop making motherboards and let VIA handle it.
:D

Because it's flame bait and trolling and the motherboard section doesn't have enough readers to flame bait and troll.

That's a good point, Nehalem is about to be released. Time to sell the the sytem...darn and my gtx280 hasn't even arrived!

Yes, no one is going to buy Nvidia 680/780/790 SLi FTL boards especially if intel boards support sli. Perhaps the rumors are true in that regard, that Nvidia will be jumping ship and not producing motherboards for enthusiasts. :)

For the record, I have two nvidia chipset boards that have been strong performers.
ASUS P5N32-E SLI (680i) and an ASUS P5N-E SLI(650i).

I had triple SLi on the 680 board for 6 or 8 months and it worked flawlessly.
My son uses that board now running two 8800 GTs and a Q6600. He uses his computer almost 24/7 and it hasn't skipped a beat.

I hope Intel and nvidia can learn to use each other's technology.....it would be great to have a choice of SLi or Crossfire on Intel chipsets.

Even if the 790i boards were perfect......I think alot of people are slowing down and waiting on Nehalem (why couldn't Intel have come up with a codename that's easier to spell???) and/or just can't afford two 500 dollar (or three) GPUs......thats where ATI hit the mark this time around.

That's good...but when there are enough people that report issues with the 790i to make manafactures simply cancel and drop the 790i.. it's a problem, regardless of those who got the "good boards."

That would be a problem if that is why the boards are indeed being dropped. I have a hard time believing that line of garbage though, especially since I have owned both the 680i Ultra AND the 790i Ultra and never experienced any motherboard related problems with either one.

I think Vengence hit the nail on the head with this.

You are delusional if you actually believe what you just said there. Its been said several times, the board was likely dropped due to the release of Nehalem and a different socket. Then again, judging from your post history, i think youre delusional anyway...or a troll. You can choose.

He may choose, but I think he's both. No matter what any of us have added to this thread, he takes all that away with incessant negativity against the 790i (& egging on a completely off-topic thread at that).

I dont know about that. Just a simple link to newegg shows that the 790i boards are "suspiciously" crappy. I know some of you guys here have great and fully working 790i motherboards and that some here suggested that complaints about 790i problems are result of user error but average shake n bake hardware enthusiasts dont go out of their way to buy $400+ motherboards. People who buys these boards tend to be experienced pc hardware enthusiasts and overclockers who know their stuff so if these mobos overall get trashed on newegg these mobos may indeed be problematic.

for example - evga ultra 790i reviews from newegg, crappy? Looks good to me for a high end board, or any product for that matter.. 78% good or excellent. WTF are you talking about?

Excellent 125 reviews 58%
Good 44 reviews 20%
Average 14 reviews 6%
Poor 12 reviews 5%
Very poor 25 reviews 11%

Yeah but what about xfx and asus boards?

xfx is the same board - I'll leave it to you as homework to average it in. As far as the asus - that is a design of their own. Also, asus has had QC problems lately.

The Evga forums is chock full of peeps having probs with the 790i. After reading and posting on that site for about the last 6 months, I've come to the conclusion as to why. Mostly, it's because nubs are buying this board, expect to plug in, and get 4Ghz.
I didn't buy a DFI board in the NF2 and NF4 days, because I knew it was for tweekers and I hadn't learned the skills back then. Well, same for the 790i today - if Nvidia failed in anything here - it's in not marketing this board correctly. It's not for the everyday user, thus, all the "problem" posts. People continually by a MB above their knowledge grade, then bitch. Yes there are some legit people with legit issues with the MB, but my opinion based off everything I've read leads me to believe that the majority of problems on the 790i are USER based. See sig. I have not had any more or less issues with this MB than with any other I've owned.
By last count one (1) person on H forums had actually experienced an OS corruption issue, yet the threads going on about it were everywhere. Nuff said.

Actually it's not off topic as the thread is also about the defective laptop graphic cards that Nvidia has admitted to...and one of the main reasons why their stock fell to the floor. This is a multi-topic thread so I simply chose the Nvidia section to post it in, as it was the most appropriate.

Any who the topic simply suggests the trend that Nvidia has set for itself...Defective Laptop GPUs....to high failure rates for GTX280s....to cancelled 790i motherboards. Not a good trend, but certainly worthy of discussion :)

There's no evidence of this, you are just spewing flames out of your ass. The FACT is, you can go to any manufacturer's message boards, and find all sorts of complaints about all their boards including Intel chipsets. Look at the top selling 775 boards on newegg, then get back to us.

Wow, sure looks like about the same ratings to me, with 3 out of the top 4 bieng nVidia boards, and the worst of the lot bieng an Asus.

Anyone hungery? BC has some Troll bait here...

Ok, maybe you can explain why Nvidia stocks dropped considerably after their laptop gpu fiasco? I am not the Pope, and I am not Catholic either.

Big cactus show me the picture of your GTX280.
I want to see this card you bought.
You always flaunt it to prove how 'unbiased' you are.
Fact is your just going off articles dude.
No actual failure rates, no true understanding as to why those companies are not making 790 boards. Same with the GTX280 failure rate. You have no idea what it is.

You just being a fear monger. its yellow journalism on your part.
You are simply using the "warning everyone" line as a tool to instill more doubt and uncertinty. You are just like Charlie Harper, a massive fanboy.
Allthough you are much more tactful about it.
Ps. this comes from someone that dislikes Nvidia boards after he dealt with the Nforce 3.

I don't know man, when you got people reporting high temps and talking about low yields you start wondering if you made the right decision. I don't think I did. The GTX280 hasn't arrived yet. It was shipped via ground Monday and I'm suppose to get it Friday. I'm honestly starting to think of telling the UPS guy to Return it back to sender, get a refund, and start prepping for Spartan. I'm still on the fence about it to be honest. I did order it though and have no reason to lie about it. I think it's going to be going back...that's right, won't even open the box...but the trade up and lifetime warranty is nudging me to keep it. Problem is the trade up is only worth it if Nvidia's response to the 4870x2 performs better, and I don't think the GT200B is going to accomplish this. If you go by past history though, Nvidia usually responds with something better in a short amount of time...like the 9800gx2 in response to the 3870x2. So I don't know, tough decision.

right it just so happens that when someone asks for some proof of a simple thing you have conveniently changed your mind. gotta love it, a true fanboy at work here.

I could care less what you think, I'll spend my money however I want to. GTX280 sli performance on one card is a bit too enticing to pass up now that I think of it, which is really starting to make the decision a bit easy. I'll probably just tell Tiger to give me credit, that way when the 4870x2 comes, I'll snatch one right at launch.

If you read the press releases, nvidia is trying to shoot down ATIs release day for the X2 by releasing the new drivers that include Physx profiles......these will work on series 8,9 and GTX 2xx cards.

Release day = August 12. Coincidence, I think not.

Me, I'm getting the 4870 X2.

Guess this is Nvidias can of whoop ass or whatever? :D

A driver set which you can use to watch a bunch of fancy tech demoes and improve your 3dmark score, unimpressive.

edit:

^ ok how OT can you get, ignore this one.

ps. For the rest of you, what do you do when you do not like somebody in the interwebs? Ignore it, otherwise your throwing gasoline to the fire.

Maybe the other 1/2 of their 8-k? The part where they lowered expectations by 150M on thier projected earnings?

Wow BigCactus, you are freeking hilarious!:p The other day you made one of your usuall trolling comments about how I might be jealous of your 280

Seriously I laugh at him every day. 3x GTX280 sli = marketing victim :p

I think he might be jealous of my BFG GTX280 since I have a trade up option as well...and because I got a good deal on it.

You talked up the 4870x2 (which looks be a fantastic card by the previews so please, your I hate the 4870x2 make you look illiterate), then buy a 280 and then you return it? So I know you don't care, hell I know I don't but that's just plain strange. Like you comments, that action made little sense. If you wanted a 4870x2 why not just wait for it. Hell, as much as you've ragged on me about the 280 I really don't even believe that you bought. And yes, I know that you don't care, I know that I don't.

In less than 40 days in these forums all you've managed to rag on people, lie, troll, and look schizophrenic.

Look, it'd be great if you became a courteous contributing member in these forums, most all of use would appreciate that, but doing what you're doing now is blighting this place.

If all you can do is name call, rag on people, troll, lie about what other people say, you simply are not contributing in useful way.

So if you do your typical thing in responding to this by calling me names, lying about what I've said, that type of thing then that's what you'll do. I'm trying to be courteous ad I'm hoping that maybe you can be an adult about it.

I think someone finally put BigCactus (aka POPEGOLD #2) in his place. I am getting sick of these trolling and flame bait posts. Thank you for doing this.

Take a picture of the reciept and smudge out all the info you dont want to show. Just be logged into your name on Hard ocp in one internet window with the other window showing proof of purchase.
Also you just admited that you dont know what the failure rates are.

It is too simple for him to prove he really did buy it. If he had, he would have already posted a screenshot, it's not that hard.

Nah, I'm not falling for your flame baits any more. Keep shooting blanks, you got nothing on this Spartan, go back to worshiping your GOD KING / GTX280 Tri-Sli set up:cool:

You really are a piece of work. You spent how many post bitching at both Heatlessun and I because we chose to spend our money how WE wanted?!?!?!

This only solidifies to me and everyone else that you are not a contributing member, you are not a person of any ethical standard, you are not mature enough to be here and you ARE A TROLL!!!!!

Youe double standard really sucks a big e-penis. Now NONE of us believe you actually bought the card  Go on tough guy, prove us wrong and take a pic of you logged on holding the card....You cant because you are a liar and a troll.

Well if by blanks you mean I'm not insulting you then you are correct. And I get the Spartan reference, the 4870x2.

Well, that's fine. You can keep hurling insults towards others until you get banned.

BTW, my God is not a piece of man made hardware. As a godly person as you said yourself, you should realize that making statements like that put you in judgment. I'm not trying to be righteous, but if you really are a god fearing person, you better be careful when you make statements like this. I'm all for jokes and poking fun, but I really don't care for this kind of thing. Not that you care I understand but I would ask you to refrain making statements like this towards me again. If your so callous as to disregard your own beliefs then obviously you don't care about mine but I make the request anyway.

I do hope that you enjoy your 4870x2. ;)
