Twisted Nematic LCD panels have problems with off-angle viewing. They have particular problems with vertical off-angle viewing - I can't even stand the contrast from one eyeball to the other on my netbook when I rotate the screen orientation - an array of portrait TN screens is non-optimal. The new Eyefinity6 HD5870 card will require Displayport monitors. Since Displayport isn't quite the standard that HDMI is yet, the intersection of the two is rather rare.

Prices are as of Jan 8 2010, mostly from Google Shopping.
*Eizo tends to be Europe/Asia only for most of its models

Updated a bit. I'm beginning to hate getting to the bottom of the 18-page review and finding out that there's no Displayport on an otherwise excellent monitor.

I don't think the L220x has a displayport input, unless it takes it over DVI.

Fixed & one more added. Still 27-30", some price information, and some of the professional monitors' specs to add.

Apparently the 27" iMac has an input and can be used as a monitor. Not sure if that counts here.

With Displayport to HDMI or DVI cables/adapters why do you need this list?

Because those cost like $100, which would be better spent on a more expensive monitor. Sure you could use VGA, but its hard to say whether you'd suffer any decreased image quality or even whether it would work in all cases.

monoprice has 6ft displayport -> hdmi or dvi for $11

There are three common types of display signals capable of computer-monitor resolution - analog, DVI/HDMI, and Displayport. Displayport can be used without any expensive timing chips or licenses - the signal comes straight off the GPU and skips corresponding de-timing steps on the monitor. For your convenience, AMD has paid extra to include limited DVI/HDMI functionality running in extra conductors on the Displayport connector - a two-in-one system they call "DP+".

There was a complication with the current boards where they refused to put a third timing chip on, and instead shared the 2nd with one of the DVI ports, which prevented people from using Eyefinity 3x1 without an active adapter - but Eyefinity was a late addition to the line.

On the 5870 Eyefinity6, two of the ports are "mini-DP+" which can be converted(actually, the wires carrying the data in that form are just "selected") to single-link DVI/HDMI with a simple adapter. Four of the ports are "Mini-DP", which cannot. They require a dedicated, $100 piece of electronics (usually a large 'dongle') to actively convert a displayport signal to a DVI/HDMI signal. These 'displayport->DVI active adapters' are oft-sold-out, have known and unknown conflicts with different monitors, and have unknown input lag - the market was virtually untested when the 5870 came on the scene.

With the warning that getting it to work remains tricky. It's confirmed to work with the ATI 4890 and 5970 cards and some earlier 3000 series cards, but it is also confirmed to not work with the ATI 5700 and 5800 series cards, and it is not clear whether or not this will be fixable.

Don't forget the new thin bezel 23" Samsung MD230s with 2560x1600 resolution on each display....

I believe those are 23" rather than 30" (Cnet says they are definitely 1080p per panel), and I listed them earlier.
