Q: What is the [H]ard|DCer of the Month?

Every month, the team gets a chance to choose someone they thought contributed greatly to the team, and give them a bit of recognition for it. At the beginning of each month, a nomination thread is held. Here is your chance to nominate whoever you think deserves recognition. Someone can be nominated for any reason. It does not matter if they designed some massive piece of software to help the team in some way, or simply added a few boxen to ramp up their production.

Q: How do things work?

Nominations are held for 10 days starting on the 1st of each month. The nominated people move onto a poll and the Poll will be open for 10 days following the end of the nomination thread. The remaining part of the month is reserved for congratulating the winner and have fun. Same as before, vote for whoever you want, for whatever reaons you want. If there is a tie, a runoff will be held. After the winner is chosen, they are interviewed so the entire team can see what makes them tick.

For the [H]ard|DCer of the Year, there is no nominations thread because the only worthy candidates is the [H]ard|DCer of the Month winners for the current year. The poll to choose a winner is done in 2 steps : The first poll will include all 12 winners for the current year and we select only the best 4 winners which will participate in the next round. If there is a tie in the first 4 ranks, the tie winners will move together. In the second round, the one with the most votes will be declared the winner but if there is a tie, a runoff vote will be held. Each step will last 10 days.

Q: What does the winner get as prize?

Being that there is no cash flow funding the [H]ard|DCer award, there is only so much we can do in the way of prizes The [H]|DCers do not have a physical prize, but thanks to Kyle and the rest of the gang, we still have something to give winners. All winners will receive a custom title showing off their achievement.

Q: Are there any rules for this?

To nominate someone, you must give at least a brief reasoning behind why they should be nominated.


Past winners cannot be nominated until one full year after they last won.

You cannot nominate yourself.

Hard DCer of the Year winners are excluded forever.

Any contestation or question about the nomination thread should be done via PM.

Pocatello, may I suggest something here? For the Nov and Dec [H]ard|DCer of the Month nominations, may I propose we reserve this two nominations for the remainder of this year and recognize those who actively participate in the upcoming WCG Birthday challenge here?

Also, not to ignore our folding mates, I would also want to recognize your contribution in early next year folding@home bigadv anniversary (third) challenge against TAAT team. I'll have to confirm with TAAT organizer, biodoc. Perhaps allocate Feb and Mar for the nominations?

Note: these two challenges contribute to the research in cancer and protein folding. These are very worthwhile medical projects to volunteer your new shiny hardware 😇

Also recognize those who participate in the BOINC Pentathlon next year. Perhaps allocate May and Jun for the nominations?

As for the remaining months of the year, make it open.

What say you all? Is this too rigid?
 
I think it is great. We still have plenty of other months - and if it starts actually becoming a problem we can always drop it.
 
I am not sure what problem this proposal attempts to solve.

We already established that the traffic in this DC sub-forum is weaker than in the past.

We have problems getting more than one nomination in a month. The number of votes each month is weak as well.

Can you explain why this proposal would help?

How does reserving "two nominations for the remainder of this year and recognize those who actively participate in the upcoming WCG Birthday challenge" change the nomination process from the status quo?
 
We do see more activities during the WCG birthday, FAH challenge and BOINC pentathlon than any other time (outside these three main events). I think this is the time to get people aware and maybe interested in DC in general. So I think we can use this opportunity to recognize their participation. We have 12 + 1 nominations per year, and like you said, it is hard to get anyone nominated every month, so I'm making a proposal to make it easy for you to manage, lol 😇

Note: it doesn't have to be these three but maybe there could be some other interesting events next year. It should at least cover both BOINC and FAH.
 
Nominations are open. It's been 10 days. Where are the nominations? This team has many members worthy of nomination. LFG!
 
Are we going to have any nominations this month?
 
We need one more nomination for a race this month. Maybe we are all done?
 
I nominate arnemetis for his participation in current race and also his enthusiasm in learning up how to setup multi-instances.

Pocatello, just my humble suggestion. Dec tends to be a quiet month, perhaps we can vote for the best two and be done for this year and give you time to prep for the HDCOTY. Others, please chime in.
 
Any more thoughts on pututu 's idea?

We have two nominations. Should we wrap things up for the year and start the voting for DC'er of the Year?
