No Man's Sky - a procedurally generated sand box space exploration game

At this point I think I'd rather see a sequel with less emphasis on mining grind and more on actual story progression.

'Expeditions' update got pushed early this morning, as far as I know it's not even announced yet.

New gameplay content is certainly welcome but not if it's limited to multiplayer. The current multiplayer stuff is poorly implemented and full of griefers, you're better off disabling MP completely and soloing the MP stuff.

Hopefully the new content can be soloed too if it's worth playing.

I started an Expeditions game and was heading to my ship when the game crashed. Looking on the NMS Reddit that appears to be a common thing. Hopefully they can get that fixed, this game mode looks entertaining.

Restarted this game for the first time in a long time..

So, these dug up bones. Do they do anything crazy outside of a route for money? Can I decorate my base with jeweled skulls that were 2004 years old?!

There's random space station missions that send you to collect them but any you find randomly are just for selling. Some are worth a decent amount so it can be a good way to make money early in the game.

Ebernanut - thanks. 1.5million credits here I come.

General question for everyone, is buying a new ship the same as it was when the game launched? Where you need to dismantle all your upgrades, sell it, and then rebuild/rebuy them again for the new ship? No way to port all that over is there?

I think there is now. But with a freighter you can own multiple ships (maybe without a freighter). So you don't need to touch the upgrades, just add news ones to the new ship.

They're still going at it!

They should have called this the "Heavy Metal with LSD on steroids" update.

Just love how much time and energy they are still pouring into this game. Really refreshing to see a developer that actually cares about their game rather than simply going after the quick DLC cash grabs for a change! And the VR support is awesome as well!

I almost feel like buying it a second time just to show them how much I respect all their effort and hard work on this.

So, yeah the graphics are so good now...I am amazed how great it looks now. I have it running maxed out with resolution scaling at 150%!!!! The game looks amazing.

Only problem with DLSS right now is that it does not work with resolution scale. Looks like it breaks it when you try to use both. Either way bravo Hello Games, I cannot believe how much better the game looks now.

Sean Murray clearly has some sort of OCD and I love it.

Maybe all of the (fully deserved) criticism at launch drove him to overachieve. Love to see it, wish more developers were like this. Of course, releasing a good game in the first place is preferred, but hey.

performance seems to have improved pretty dramatically, even without DLSS.
That's good to hear, performance seems to have gotten worse with the last few updates and I was worried that this would push it over the edge into unplayable.

Have you checked performance near a large base?

Performance seemed fine near my mediocre sized base, but I haven't actually ever visited a true "large" base or any of the community ones. I should do that sometime.

If you have a messed up game with a partly repaired ship, is that still a decent starting point to get back in, or would it be easier to restart? I borked my game that was decently advanced (good tool/ship and 80% of the suit upgrades).

I tried to play and do the expedition to get the Normandy from Mass Effect, but it seems i was locked out for some reason. Regardless, the new Community Expeditions stuff requires a brand new save file / starting over anyhow, so may as well just time your return to a new Community Expedition starting.

Did they add any sense of scale for the ships or do they still look like overgrown toys?

Oh my.. Making my own SETTLEMENT!?!
become overseer of your very own settlement. As overseer, you’ll be responsible for all aspects of the settler’s lives – naming the town, choosing what to build, commissioning festivals, resolving arguments, repelling the attacks of the Sentinels, and much more.
multi-coloured nebulas,
base building menu has been totally overhauled.
save slots has been increased from 5 to 15,
Destruction is crunchier and more satisfying, with reworked visual effects for asteroid destruction, Exocraft crashes, crystal mining, terrain editing, and enemy explosions.

If you like exploring mixed in with crafting/building/resource management and nice visuals/graphics, you will definitely enjoy this game. The fact that they keep pouring their development resources into this with continous free updates really makes it a standout and well worth the price of admission. While it started off really rocky in the early days, it is now a very polished game (even has full VR support). I wish all developers were this passionate about their games instead of just releasing something half-assed, abandoning it after a small patch or two and then moving on to the next project. Hello Games does it right and proves that some developer actually care. I'd toss them some more coin just on principle at this point if they were to ever decide to release a paid expansion - but they just keep pumping out continuous updates and improvements for free, and they aren't small updates either!

I know with everything they've added I shouldn't bitch but I really wish they had a lot more variety and density of fauna. Better environment animations and effects and better lighting (I want Ray Tracing)
The lack of any real physics also really bugs me in this game for some reason.

I don't know what it is about this game as there are many recent games that lack the above features and it doesn't bother me but for No Man's Sky it really does.

I hear ya, but for a game that sells for $30 on Steam right now, it is really hard to knock them or gripe about it not having better/denser fauna or better physics. :)
The way they keep chugging along with the free updates, odds are they'll eventually address those - I'm hoping for ray tracing support as well.

How many hours have you played?

I'm at around 200 hours. I've mostly maxed out my ship so my playing around these days is mostly just to zone out and see what cool stuff gets added per update.

Coming into the game fresh at this stage of development/post launch support would be amazing. It would probably feel like there truly was something brand new at every corner, they've added so many, many systems and mechanics to the game and most of them are entirely optional.
Hell, I've never even gotten into base building or that far into fleet management yet. Not to mention all the quicksilver quests.
