Decent Multi Tool :)-
Still trying to understand the logic for the Damage Potential + other fields in both the multitool and ships. I get ships have inherent bonuses based on type (fighters would get a higher boost for damage potential), but I have gotten a multitool with over 1k damage potential with 10 slots and it was Class C, then i saw a class A tool with only 300 damage potential. I think the A had Boltcaster installed (no mods) and the C had a Blaze Javelin (also no mods). No other weapons installed for either. Googling doesn't seem to be much help, as some say it is based on the primary weapons, but that does not seem to explain everything.

S Class MT's will have more damage potential as a base stat and more slots to shore it up. Obviously S class modules for your MT are preferred as well.
You compared a A to a C, in the end the A will have more DP as you can fit more tech in it. But the 1k+ damage C MT is a good starter.
Also dont forget you can own 2 MT's, and switch them out as needed.

Ships are not exactly the same tho. Even tho an S class usually has the best base stats for its class, sometimes an A class has more slots.

Also its mostly moot now for ships, as any ship can be converted to an S class with enough stats and slots if you have the cash + nanites.

I am nowhere close to having the credits nor nanites for upgrading ships. I DID find an "Extreme" planet with Storm Crystals, which I built a base with teleporter on, so i can start farming those for more credits. I actually used the first 5 for the antimatter creation item, which is helpful when right now copper/chromatic metal is being used on a bunch of other things as well.

Look for minerals on that Extreme planet, usually they have good stuff that can be sold or otherwise useful. Many metals can be processed to Chromatic, One of my first extreme planets had so much Cadmium I didnt need copper anymore.

Most of my time was spent trying to get a shelter up and running that protected me from the outside. I do not have an Exocraft yet, so getting around to the different deposits is pretty much limited to flying (or running for my life and narrowly surviving).
One frustration i had was that I tried to build a huge shelter (3 rows high, 10 X 10) using the metal wall/floor/roof pieces, and even though i snapped them all together i was still not protected in some spots (i.e. Hazard levels started dropping like i was outside. I ended up going with the prefab "Large" structure items instead.

Brand new to the game. Ive always played FPS type games, but this is a completely different approach. Im having fun.
If you ever need some help, look for HK-47 in game / on Steam ( i think your in game ID pulls in your Steam id). I am on most evenings, and don't mind a few sidetracks, as I do it to myself enough as is.

the stated damage stats are misleading. Generally I'd not worry about it too much. Get a rifle with all slots and you are good to go. S-Class when you can find one. Probably don't need to bother with the other types. For damage types, I liked geocannon and pulse splitter. surround them with 3 of the s-class mods and I think that is the best setup. the geocannon can blow the armored doors with 2 or 3 shots, even multiple targets on a big walker with a lucky shot. just.... it is REALLY easy to die with geocannon. But I like it more than the grenade launcher, problem with it being the grenades bounce, and screw that.

The pre-fabs are by far the best option imho. Especially for a farm. They also do not require any terraforming.
I've mostly given up on terraforming due to a bug in game that can cause the terrain to return and make a mess out of your base.

For big structures made out of Wood/metal/concrete build on already flat ground is the best option.

Here's a largely non terraformed farm.:

today's travels took me to a system with a bubbly planet and a pillared planet. Got a bunch of glitches, not sure what to do with them..

You can display them around your bases, some of them look pretty cool. I dont remember them as being very valuable.

Was not paying attention and left the pulse engine on too long, and found myself past the planet i was trying to go to. I somehow ended up finding a portal that put me a long distance from where i was on the galaxy map. I cannot actually tell how far, because i cannot find where i was previously. I had hoped i would at leas be able to find where my bases are.

Showing off my Fighter. Had it for quite a while and just recently began to upgrade its storage and tech slots. Probably the coolest (imho) ship I own.
Something about the way it looks is just right, and it does make for very short fights with the pirates..

So Peter Elson! I need to get a better looking ship. Once you get to 'S' class it's mostly about the looks, right?

Here's a handy guide :)

There are six types of starships: Shuttle, Fighter, Hauler, Explorer, Exotic, and Living Ship. Among these archetypes are four letter-grade classes: C, B, A, and S.

  • C-class ships have the fewest inventory spaces, and if there is a class bonus, it will be no more than 20%.
  • B-class ships take up the three inventory sizes below the maximum of the tier size, and they have a 20% or more class bonus.
  • A-class will have either the maximum number of slots or one slot less than max, and has a 35% or more class bonus.
  • S-class ships do not necessarily have the max amount of inventory slots. You can have an S-class ship with fewer slots than other ships of the same type (fighter/explorer/etc.). [this fact confirmed as of Sept. 2019]
  • S-class ships have a 50% or more class bonus (excluding exotics).
  • Note: Due to the game's mechanic of always rounding down, a 59.99% ship will still display 59%. Finding a 'seemingly' perfect ship in any class is thus as likely as winning the lottery. Collectors, don't try!
And lots more about ships: https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Starship

This is my A class fighter, I haven upped it to S class yet. But I did spend roughly 400 million or so on upgrading the slots in the general inventory and tech.
Speed an maneuverability puts any other ship I have to shame, including any exotic S class or Living ship.

And if you have speed and maneuverability, you should always come out of the fight (imho).

Alternatively you can invest heavily in a defense geared Freighter with a maxed out cyclotron ballista...

I found a really nice one of those "pod racer" looking ships that has two big engines with a small cockpit attached. For some reason it randomly has a ton of storage though (more than its appearance would dictate anyway). It's also really fast and maneuverable, so I've just held onto it. I'm not sure if it's some kind of artifact or something. It's a common enough ship appearance, it just seems to be better specced than it should. If I remember correctly it's A-class, not S. (could even be B, but I'll have to check) I have a few others parked, but have never liked them as much, so I've just kept it.

Its cool, but I'd only ever put a farm, or complex base on temperate lush planets. the storms are just annoying
