you don't really need to base build, except perhaps for the exocraft. you can find buried tech, summon the space anomaly and trade for blueprints. there is a second set that you get by breaking into research stations. and once you have visited enough stations, you can go to about 20 or 30 of them and collect all the scan/feed/kill mission. then go to a planet and scan/feed/kill and they will all complete at once. easy way to get tons of money, nanites and standing. and of course there are trade routes, but even easier is market crashing by selling wiring looms, buying them back at vastly reduced prices and repeating in the next star system.

I've pretty much abandoned my base. Now, I just planet hop, and build a base computer, solar panel, and teleporter on planets that have salvageable scrap, or ancient bones, and visit them whenever I need some money. Though, most of my money is made from sending frigates out on missions. Last night I started the underwater missions. They're fun and really relaxing.

I hate the construction controls they are awful, and I’ve played just about every survival/builder game made.
Cool man, this thread needed an experts opinion.

I think the controls are easy /shrug.

I've had mixed experience with the construction stuff. The snapping seems to be really finicky and not place things the correct orientation a lot of the time by default. You can manually rotate, though, so it's not a huge deal.

I came across another "Fractured" planet, found some neat towers:

This is one of the underwater missions:

On a planet the leaves kept "vanishing" on the trees, with the grass, it makes a cool fall scene:

the main criteria is to have 2x2 grids on your tech page, then you stack 6 s-class mods along with the weapon and craftable buffs for the weapon. a fighter will give higher starting stats, but it doesn't really matter much, you should be able to obliterate anything anyway
I have a good Fighter already so mostly just doing it for fun. Probably mess around with it for a bit before I turn it in to a summonable flying bank vault. I could use another 48 slots of storage atm

Really enjoying the shots, guys. Keep it up. I haven't played in a bit because I finally watched the Max Payne movie and it triggered an urge to play through those again, but I'll be back for more exploration soon enough.

I'm actually about to take a break for a bit. I need to finish Days Gone, Far Cry 5, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, and replay The Last of Us, because The Last of Us 2 is coming out, and I have to clear my backlog before then.

The gf bought the game a couple days ago, while playing by myself was fun, playing with someone else makes the game 10x better in my opinion.

Yeah, I haven't done much MP yet, but I bought this for my daughters, so we should be able to jump in and play together sometime. Just haven't had the time.

Is anyone aware of any future (major) content? I've had this game on simmer ever since it came out. Haven't played a single second of it. I usually wait all a games DLC comes out before playing through it. I get that this might be a "live service" game and content may be never ending. Just wondering if I should finally start it up or not. Thanks.

Stop being greedy waiting for more content. As it is now, there is plenty of content to play the game.

NMS really has no content worth mentioning besides the very short intro. Updates show up with no particular urgency and really dont add anything but features and new mechanics etc.

Just play it. It has no beginning and no end :)

I tried to play when Beyond came out and the game would hard crash my PC on launch. I'm kinda scared to try it again.

OK, that's a cool looking ship!

I wish I hadn't tossed my save with good progress, it's painful to restart.

It is, but it isn't. It was kinda fun restarting after this last update. I don't think that I actually played the storyline before the last update, I just explored, mined, traded, and claimed. I actually got bored of it and felt directionless.

After the last update, I do all of that, and with the storyline, it gives me something to work towards, at my pace. I play this game to relax and get lost, and having a little direction is good, and worth it.

Thanks, sh'e a work in progress and I've been a little negligent of NMS the last few months but looking forward to play some this week.

Original name was cool enough for me to keep too :greyalien:

I have not played for quite some time, but I understand you now can have a refinery in your backpack and can buy slots to expand ship capacity and can also make any ship into a s class and also have multiple tools. Overall they have made some great changes to the game which should make a lot of things a lot easier.

Very cool, never seen one like that! i think they added more variations as a few other parts of hte game have been similar, which is the last thing they needed to do (more variation across the board). More of the exotic planets is cool too, they're such a trip. Best way to find them is on the universe map, go to sort by race then find the white stars (no race).
Was great fun jumping to them for free with freighters till they changed it to have fuel requirements #cry.

I've been exploring exotic planets and doing more of the frigate missions, enjoying that quite a bit and it can be pretty lucrative once you get the formula down. Saving up a slush fund to buy 'that perfect ship you see while out and about'. Would be neat to get an exotic and increase the slots which is now possible.

if you have not tried trading then you should. there are two types, regular trading and market crashing. I don't care for the latter as it is a bit cheaty, assuming it still works and has not been patched out. for regular trading, there are 4 types of planetary systems to be interested in. you need an ecomomy scanner and some decent hyperdrive range updates. you start with a "rich" system, buy their specific goods and then go to the next rich system that will buy your goods and sell their goods. if you have not maxed out your suit it is a good method to do that. repeat until you have 100 million or so. If you are in a frigate you don't need to get out of the ship. Just install a trade terminal near the bridge, jump to a new system, buy and sell at your terminal and repeat. good times.

This game has me intrigued enough now that I will likely buy it the next time i see one of the 50% off sales for it (which for a while there were like every other week). I had hoped it would be a good alternative to Elite:Dangerous to play with my HOTAS setup, but I think the ground base building will be a nice activity to make up for "just flying" burnout.

100% different than ED. No HOTAS needed/wanted.

It's a Survival/builder/explorer imo, and depending on playstyle you might end up flying very little and after a while you can almost do without it.

So would this be closer to a Subnautica then? Just with the environment being space instead of undersea.
Also, I think the lack of anything beyond flying around and trying to complete missions has burned me out on E:D. Flying around and doing some combat is fun, but it is better as a thing to do, not THE thing to do.

Much more like Subn.
It is also insanely large, should you wish to explore.

It has a very active sub red https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/

I think it is on sale for 50% off on Steam right now. The sale ends on February 24th.

Make bread, turn in for Nanites. Easy if not a bit boring way to keep your Nanite count adequate.

Process in the cooker/nutrient thingie, turn in to cranky chef dude on board the anomaly.

I've been doing this for a while as I farm the ingredients anyhow for living glass.

Here's a good write up from reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/f5chkf

I don’t have a hard time earning nanites. This is good tip on earning more. Thank you.

however I’m curious as to how to earn a lot of money quickly so I can enjoy the game more for just exploring? Is farming the way to go? Should I focus on building up my base first?
