Anyone have any info on the nVidia or AMD cards past 6xx and 79xx series? Expected time frames, etc?

Neither the Nvidia 700 series nor the AMD 8xxx series will be announced until one day after you purchase one of their current cards, so hurry up and buy one, buster.

Yeah seriously! I always skip a generation so I can be super excited for the new one though.

Games that have been recently released are generally not very demanding in terms of graphical power.
Hopefully, this will change once the new generation of consoles are launched (Wii U does not count!).

Considering that the current fab process is still having all of the bugs ironed out I doubt we will see anything any time soon. Anyway unless you're running triple head setup's there's almost no need for new stuff at this point.

Are the next gen GPUs going down in fab size?

Nope, just refinements for this round. Odds are it will be a compute performance bump for Nvidia and a power usage reduction for AMD, that mixed with a clock speed increase for both camps.

I'm looking to upgrade quite soon possibly, and am eagerly awaiting any announcments.

I would prefer they focused on smoothness.

I always check in here to keep up on what the future may bring on GPU's.

I'm holding out for the Nvidia Maxwell GeForce 800, which has unfortunately been pushed back to early 2014.

nVidia has done this/been through this before, so without any official PR statement from them, I'd expect to see Maxwell 20nm sometime between 2013-2015. :p

looks like the Nvidia Maxwell GPUs will be some awesome cards just hope I have the patience for those to be released :p

Its alwas smart to wait for the second series after a die shrink. 8xxx series will be much more efficient than 7xxx, cheaper better less power. Rumors hints that HD8870 will outpreform the gtx 680 @ half the price. just have to wait and see.

I'm on a 460 and might upgrade with this refresh. 560 was a refresh, 660 a new gen and the 7 series appear to be a refresh so I would have to wait till the 8 series to also have skipped a gen. Not sure if I will wait that long. Only thing holding me back so far was the price/performance ratio went to complete shit. I paid $80 for my card after selling off the software bundle. Nothing has the p/p ratio now and even more so when you consider the time factor (purchased 5/2011). Guess those days might be over...

Having bugs ironed out according to whom? I understand that you can always improve something but the point of diminishing returns has already arrived. TSMC and many of their clients (including Nvidia) have already stated that they are satisfied with the process. Only problem I have heard about was capacity w TSMC stating that they would be able to meet it all by Q1 2012 and a few weeks ago they announced that they had met it early.
