[0]Ctrl+Alt+De1337 writes "The Mactel-Linux folks have now
[1]successfully booted Linux on a 17" Core Duo iMac. They used the elilo
bootloader, a modified kernel, and a hacked vesafb to boot from a USB
drive. No GUI pictures for now, just white text on a black background.
The distro of choice was Gentoo, and instructions and patches are
promised this weekend."

well, that is fucking obvious :D

since they have that newer style "bios" system on the Macs, we'll have to wait for Vista.... or if someone comes out with a "hack", we can do XP

I'm pretty sure the Linux crowd is putting more effort into this, so for most of us, it was obvious. Furthermore, why would we want Windows to run on over-priced Mac hardware, when we have the Pentium Ms or Turion64 laptops that are cheaper?

Oh, wait, I see. It's just another attempt to put down M$ Microshaft Winblows, etc etc

WEll durr

OSX is BSD-based which isn't a million-miles away from Linux (I am sure a few BSD advocates here will argue ;) )
The point being there is already a boot-loader there that will load a BSD/LINUX like kernel. THAT is 1/2 the battle!!!

Look at how the Xbox got hack, it wasn't until something could boot that the walls stsrted to fall. Since OSX has a linux-friendly bootloader present, it isn't such a big step

Now get the NT kernel to boot...

Probably have to load the NT kernal through emulation - perhaps like they hacked OS X x86 to run on PC's - load up debian and then more or less emulate the o/s.... ?
