Yeah, it killed my Xbox.
During the update it froze and never recovered...

This happen to anyone else? I'm gonna call Microsoft tommorow and see whats what...and if I need to get my new one from BB....sheesh what a terrible way to end a Wed....

Last class for the week is today, so I'm going home tonight and will probably update it then. I'll let you know how things turn out.

Pulled the dashboard update then the oblivion update right after it and then set 2 downloads to go at the same time bf2 and hitman and didnt have a single problem

Updated mine yesterday, played some games and watched some HD trailers today, didn't experience any problems. Must have just been a case of bad luck. Call 1-800-4MY-XBOX, Microsoft will take care of you.

I called that 20 minutes ago. They had me do some things, and now it won't boot at all. They tried to have me pay $129 to get it fixed. I said "I didn't break it, the software update did.". Then he tried to say it was just a coincidence, then when I said the XBox at work is doing it too and there is a forum full of people with the same symptoms he changed his tune.

It's not bad luck, check out the XBox forums.

How else MS gonna get ppl to upgrade to an Xbox360, they will prolly offer you a Xbox360 for something like $150

Screw that, they better just send me one. Even if it's limited to about 2000~5000 people. Fix those and it will pass. Deny it, and it will fester.

If they tried doing that to everyone who's system got corrupted because of the update, I'm pretty sure they'd get raped by a class action lawsuit.

lol. Who tests these things, anyway? :p

If you were to update the BIOS on 4 million motherboards do you think you might get a few thousand bad BIOS flashes?

no major problems like to ones you guys are experiencing, but the update did somehow make my games a lot darker on the 360. WTF?

Umm, maybe check your TV settings? My TV has different modes, such as "Vivid", "Standard", "Movie", and "Professional". Maybe you switched to one or the other by mistake?

I feel sorry for those that have a launch box that didn't also purchase an extended warranty.

it doesnt matter, Microsoft would still ship them a new unit.

No major problems for me, but I did notice that none of my games seem to recognize my saves from before the update anymore. Kinda sucks, but I'm trading them all soon so no biggie.

no problems following the update here. I like the new interface.

It sucks, but at least it get's me off NFS:MW and onto the 20+games I bought and never played for my other systems. I know 4 of them aren't even unwrapped yet.

I am not gonna buy another XB360, MS is gonna fix it, or send me a new one.

"Extended warranty? How can I loose!?" - Homer Simpson.

Looks like MS will be fixing/replacing my console for free. Find out for sure tomorrow.

Do you have any links to those threads on the Xbox.com forums? I looked and didn't find any.

Also, something else to try if you haven't already, physically unplug the power supply from the back of the Xbox360 (simply unplugging from the wall won't have the same effect), wait about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. Sometimes that can help with a machine that freezes after a Flash Update.

They have been deleting them I noticed
. That forum is kept under hard control. They have to approve posts in the support forum. Doesn't surprise me that they are deleted.

Nah, that didn't help. My X-Box used to turn on before it crashed. I called MS support and they told me to do the MS XBox hokey-pokey (take the HDD off, take the power supply out, the vid cable... shake it all about... wait two minutes, then put everything back..).. and then it died. I know the guy on the phone was like "oh shit." after that.. because I turned it on and he heard it boot before we did the dance.

So today when the dude called, he said "I've been taking care of these calls all day", and should have an answer by tomorrow.

This made me ROFL:
"I did the usual: disconnected all cables, checked the power supply, booted up the unit without the hard drive and accessories," said Schneider. "But let's face it, it's a little bit like telling the guy who's bleeding from a stump where his leg used to be to take off his pants and jacket, put them back on, and see if that fixes the problem.

Actually that's not true. The only posts that are deleted are those that contain inflamatory language, personal attacks, and inappropriate content such as links to porn or commercial solicitations. A post that is simply critical of Xbox or Microsoft is not reason enough to delete it. The Xbox forums are read very frequently by many Xbox employees, and are used very often as an early detection method of problems that may arise, since users generally post there first when they have trouble with something. There isn't a dedicated support forum, as all of them can be used for that purpose, and no posts require any prior approval before becoming visible.

I've seen some complaints about the recent back compat update not being what some folks wanted it to be, and I've seen some posts complaining about the 2858 Dash Update only containing a fix for Chinese fonts but nothing else. However I've not yet seen any posts about the Flash Update killing a console. I'm not doubting your situation, I'm honestly just looking for more information about other affected users.

IGN's investigation was funny (even if they claim an almost 15% defect rate). But... now Matt's box died (he was the only editor who's box survived, and he was happy about that). Now he's mad :p http://blogs.ign.com/Matt-IGN/2006/06/13/21540/

Maybe they sent all the bad ones to the San Francisco area? lol
IGN just has really bad luck. They don't represent the majority, of course.

Jethro, you look like you work for MS. Give me a 360, and I'll give you a PS3 ;).

Sounds fair. But I suppose I'd have to wait until November to take delivery huh? :p

Hahaha!! Yeah!! But I take that back, MS called and said they'll fix it for free.

Glad to hear it. I suppose we'll see in a year or so if Sony can compete at that level as well ;)

Haven't you heard? It takes 1000's of people and a Class Action Lawsuit to get anything done.

::I Heart Sony::

And it's back. All is well... till the next update :)

They just sent a replacement one.

An update from Black-Falcon
Yeah, so I wen't ahead and used my extended warr. from Best Buy to get a new one.
This new one that I had died in 1 month. Yes 1 month. So I'm now on my 3rd Xbox 360. I'm not mad though, because I didin't have to pay to renew my extended warr this time.
