Newegg Weekend Special 8120 for 199.99

How is this a special???? Hasnt the 8210 been $200 since it came out? I know its bounced up to $210 every once in a while but pretty much every time I look, its $200.

Although I did get a kick out of the marketing and reviews on that page.

Unlock and load. Blow away the competition with the unrestrained power of an AMD FX processor

Twice as fast as Phenom II X6 @ 3.5GHz

Well when I saw it on Newegg it was 219.99 I believe so I thought 10 percent off wasn't to bad.

I just also noticed the FX 6100 is 149.99 also from 159.99 normal price on newegg.

Sorry if these prices aren't the best EVER i know they're lower than normal for newegg. I'm hardly in this side of the forums, and didn't see it posted. :p My apologies if I inspired any meltdowns and/or fits.

Sometimes they have very good to eggcellent deals, other times not

Just installed FX-4100 and I can see a good fps difference once OCed to 4.5

This needs to get down to $150 in order for it to be appealing to anyone who isn't a rabid AMD fan boi or who doesn't have a dual core AM2+ setup with a motherboard that can use an FX cpu. The FX line should be $100, $125, $150, & $175 for the 4100, 6100, 8120, & 8150 respectively based on their performance.

I picked up the FX-4100 last week for $99 if you included the $20 giftcard it came with.

Definitely money well spent. Aside from the "my motherboard doesn't support AM3+" scenario, why anyone would still buy an old X4 now is beyond me.

I agree AMD needs to do something about the prices to become a bit more competitive. AMD should adapt to the following pricing:

4100 = $90 (intel G850)
6100 = $120 (intel i3-2100)
8120 = $170 (intel i5 and i7 -K)
8150 = $190 (intel i5 and i7 +K)

Not far off from your figures, but keeping the 8120 between $170-180, then a small premium over that for the 8150, would mean AMD could boost sales volume and once again have a bit of a retail pricing edge over big blue.

Pentium and i3 shoppers:
Could get a true quad core 4100 or hex core 6100 for roughly the same price. Damn good incentive based solely on core count.

Pentium i5 and i7 shoppers:
Would likely make a lot of folks think a bit more about choosing a 6 or 8 core FX over any quad core i5 or i7. Again, would give the FX the advantage with a core count to price ratio.

For those that have already invested in an AM3+ platform, don't yet have a BD, and don't have the money to completely overhaul their system again, this would sweeten the deal for them and likely get them to jump at an FX.

For shoppers looking to do a complete system overhaul, it would more than likey sway a decent percentage of this group to go for an FX, unless power consumption and heat are a factor and those shoppers are aware of what the FX line will chew up and spit out in those regards vs SB (and upcoming IB)...

Speaking of IB, AMD desperately needs to do something with the pricing of BD (and do it NOW), as it's only going to get worse for them come April/May. That, and AMD should use a "hurry up offense" and make as many strides as possible to get their next FX series out the door as quickly as possile.
