IStopped using Amazon when they dropped a warehouse down in Central FL.
Sales tax are being imposed now without that requirement. Which is probably why they dropped a warehouse there. That's what happened in Michigan. The Warehouse came after the sales tax was enforced anyway.

Do you really think so? I don't. You may very well be right, and I'm not arguing...just giving my opinion.
I think the ease of making purchases and selection available online plus the convenience of making purchases without getting off your ass instead of dealing with traffic will trump a bit of sales tax.
Perhaps for larger purchases the equation would swing in favor of retail outlets but outside of that, I don't see it.

I think NewEgg has other larger problems to worry about besides sales tax. I don't know about most folks here but I haven't used them for anything in more than a few years.
Imho, for most users, the selection of big branded items are available at alot of major retailers like Best Buy (everyone would have access to these), MC or Frys (if your lucky), and heck even Walmart and Staples have started carrying a decent selection of items for ship to store. Some price match, some have the same exact price, some have Open Box items which you can physically inspect before purchasing, and best part for some is they give you that immediate dopamine loop stimulation/satisfactions of getting that part then and there. Doesnt work, immediate return in front of their staff, so they cant mark things magically as returned with user damage.

Newegg and Amazon have unique advantages in a wider selection of parts and maybe off branded items, but the playing field is getting alot more even with them and BM stores. just my 2C

Received a recent email from newegg they will begin collecting tax for Idaho starting July 1
amazon already does so it's a wash
NE will sometimes match amazon on certain items but you do not gain or lose now either way.

I have a feeling within the next couple of years everyone is going to be charging sales tax if your state requires it. Personally I have seen this coming and surprised it didn't start happening sooner. With as much as people buy things online now you better believe the government will still want there piece of that. People just need to get over it and stop complaining already.

Newegg has far better pricing than Amazon on almost half of all common PC parts, better inventory, and infinitely better search of those parts to find what you need than scrumming through all of Amazon. BOTH Amazon and Newegg are invaluable. If I had to only deal with Amazon it would be extremely inconvenient and add many extra hours per week trying to find things and compare options.

Newegg shot itself in both feet years back, I almost shed a tear. There are still a few decent etailers around who don't charge tax, that will likely change in the coming years. This could be an opportunity for Fry's to shine again. I'd much rather get it today at roughly the same price but my local outlet is in bad shape. They recently rolled back hours of operation and 40% of the shelves are empty.

I think only around 8 states are left, the big one being Texas. Considering how the legislature has a short operating schedule throughout the year it may take another year for them to get it done but I have no idea when they're in session or not. Considering how Texas went after Amazon a few years back for operating subsidiaries I fully expect Texas to start enforcing sales tax collection soon. Within the next two years I think OR and NH will be the only exceptions as they have no sales tax.

Newegg has sucked for years... who cares.

If it's not the cheap junk pc accessories they sell, it's their shipping dept who thinks it is ok to ship hardrives (Enterprise, raid edition drives) totalling >$1000 in a cardboard box with no packing material... oem drives, so not like they were in retail packaging, just a drive in a static bag, put loose in a box and shipped. They have a shipment costing over a thousand dollars and couldn't be bothered to provide a minimal amount of protection.. yeah, no thanks.

Amazon or I let google find stuff for me these days...

Well I would say that IL wasn't on that list but they were the ones who started taxing online stuff YEARS ago. Now they are on to raising taxes on everything.....I think at some point in the future they are going to tax the air I breath.

Woot! Ohio is still exempt.. although once they start to charge it, I will probably start doing all my shopping at Microcenter in Mayfield at that point..

Yep. I am surprised it took them this long to finally do it. They probably lost trillions in taxes since online shopping became a thing.

The last time I saw any Walmart carry anything resembling a half-way decent selection of PC components was back when Nvidia's FX cards were still new.

Often prices are the same at NE and Amazon but I've found that the vast majority of time when there's a price difference NE is the cheaper one. Without Prime the free shipping from Amazon is much slower too, it's 5-8 day service and they usually don't even ship for a week.

For instance I bought a monitor on NE this morning that was $60 cheaper than on Amazon and instead of 5-8 days shipping the free shipping was listed as 2-5 day and it's already shipped with an expected arrival of Friday(which would make it 3 days).

Did you use the app for $15 off?

People still use Newegg? That's so 10+ years ago. Seriously, I used to order from Newegg all the time but I couldn't tell you the last time I bought anything from them. Last email I got from them was for some expensive sunglasses that they said I ordered and were about to ship. I contacted them and told them I hadn't ordered anything and canceled my account. That's been several (guessing 7+ years ago) and I haven't found the need since....
got an openbox sas card for cheap with a promo a couple months ago, got my 480 from them when it came out.

Hmm I don't remember when they added MD, but then again, I've done so many of my purchases at Microcenter - that's probably why I never noticed.

Meh they`re making the instore retailers more appealing I guess.
How?

If I had to pay tax either way I'm still going to take the lower price.

And Newegg and Amazon offer items I can't even find in store. And often times they ship me the same products I find locally, for less.

That's right, shipped to my door for free, for less than local retail.

I know right! It's called the internet. Welcome to 2001, plus taxes.

My experience has been the opposite. I can get an item shipped to my door from Amazon and returned if need be, before a Walmart employee even figures out where my order is behind their desk. Let alone the week it took to get the item shipped their store before it became part of the pile of junk behind the counter.

And I'll chance ups handling my package before I chance it floating around at Walmart. Especially a computer part. No thanks.

Not sure when the last time you ordered any drives from Newegg but for at least the last few+ years *every* hard drive I have ordered from them, 2.5" or 3.5", that didn't come in a full retail package came in either an airbag pouch or cardboard box w/airbag pouch. Even the optical drives are coming in airbag pouches/bubble wrap.

Glad to hear it. I gave them a nasty review on that product after that happened. Someone must have read it. They never reached out to me, so first I have heard that the shipping practices changed. I stopped buying from them after that incident.

Well in 2019, if the B&M and internet is the same price...I dont know I guess you can wait a couple days, while the rest of us pick up our orders in 1 hr at Microcenter lol

That is the awesome thing about options and choice! I myself hate driving so I would just wait unless i need something faster than 2days in which case i am glad there are different options out there.

Well you had NCIX up there. If I recall NE didn't have much of a physical presence in Canada. You people are very spread out over a large mass. Of couse shipping is going to be expensive coming from another country.

Well microcenter is different. I have one close and utilize it all the time. And I still pay tax. And they price match online retailers.

There is a reason microcenter is so popular for a small retailer.

But as for Walmart, I'd rather trust my computer parts being shipped around world.

It was inevitable and it is catching up with more states.

https://kb.newegg.com/knowledge-base/states-we-charge-sales-tax-in/

Starting July 1st, eight more states will get bent over with sales tax:

Arizona
Arkansas
Florida (<-- my state :rage:)
Kansas
New Mexico
Oklahoma
Rhode Island
Virginia

The rest of the states currently getting taxed are also listed on that page.

This really cools down the choice between Amazon and Newegg for me. Stopped using Amazon when they dropped a warehouse down in Central FL.

Florida???? NoooooooOOOOOoooOOOOOooo!!!

Join the club. They have a warehouse in Memphis so I've been Tennessee's high sales tax since day 1.
