Newegg Black Friday Deals (finally a good drive deal!!)

Damn good deal on the 500gigger

Was hoping for something about...half the size...and half the price. Though. Yes, I know there's a few Maxtor 200GBs floating about, but it's MAXTOR.

Edit: The PowerColor X1950 Pro PCI-E isn't too shabby. It's got a $30-40 cooler on it that you don't have to install so that's why paying MSRP of $200 in this situation is A-OK

The new Maxtors are Seagate drives. You can tell the difference by the ATA/100 interface on the PATA models. "Maxtor" Maxtor PATA drives had a ATA/133 interface.

That said, I'm picking up one or two Maxtor 320GB (300GB w/ bonus 20GB) drives tomorrow for $59.99 each and no rebates. :D
---

The newegg deal is even hotter if you signed up for the paypal $20 off $50 thing by yesterday.

Where will those 300+20gb drives be sold?

So I haven't upgraded my computer in years but I'm really considering a new HDD, this 80gig is just not enough for me anymore (never really was actually.) So I've been out of the loop for so long I've never even seen a SATA harddrive, a PCI-e card, etc... I know my mobo supports SATA but will it work with SATA2? I have no idea what the difference is other than 1.5 gb/s and 3gb/s. I've got a DFI Infinity Ultra (NF2) btw.

Oh hell no, Seagate all the way man. Same company technically, but pretty much everyone says Seagate drives last longer. Just ordered the 500GB from newegg. Hopefully I can get myself the 360 from amazon too. :)

Where's that from? Newegg?

hmm not bad at all for the 7200.10 :) but I still think the wd 500gb re2 for 169 off zzf is a great / better deal. i think the re2 redeemded wd for me

Thanks for the tip, I have been looking for new hard drives for the last month... last deal I got 400GB SATA 7200.10 RPM for $99 and bought two of them. I just bought 2 of these 500GB SATA 7200.10 RPM!! (Not as good a deal as the 400GB, but still a good deal compared with the others)

I guess I ought to have checked zzf as well. I wanted RE2's, but at this price.. oh well, they will be put to use

Agreed. Just bought one of those..

Two weeks ago I bought the 320 GB model from Newegg. Three days later it completely died. I did the advance replacement through Seagates website and two days later I received this 500 GB model on my front porch. Needless to say, I was quite pleased that they sent the larger drive for replacement but it makes me question if they know that something might be wrong with the 320 GB model.

Still good on my end.
"LIMITED TO QTY ON HAND. NO BACKORDERS." You can add it to the cart but it's not going to ship. I've tried on other products before.

mostlikely theres not much margin on any videocard worth getting
(except for the new ones, msrp $529, youre price $699  )

I've been running a 320GB Seagate for a long time. No issues at all.

Nah, that's a pretty common policy. I've had Seagate replace my 200 gig drives with 250's before. It's just a question of whatever they have lying around that they can turn around quickly (and it probably helps their customer service image: not a lot of people who would complain about getting a bigger drive)

is the 500gb 7000.10 as good and quiet as the 7000.9 ?????
I did a bit of research and ended up getting the wd 500gb re2 drive. But to answer your question, I understand that the 7900.9 is quieter than the .10. It could have something to do with the new perpendicular technology, but the .10 is a bit faster from what I've read, especially at sustained transfer rates.
