Yay. the new xserves use the .09 G5, according to their techdocs. Im going to guess it will make its way into the powermacs within a couple months.

58m transistors, 66mm squared die size.

Same trans count so no obvious changes. :/

really small die. Power consumption has to be much lower...but I doubt laptop-levels.

Id also like to add G5 clusters are about to pop out like babies in the ghetto, look at the pricing.

single 1u G5= 3k, duallie = 4k (definently not justified), dualie "cluster" edition = 3k.

same price as a powermac G5, in a 1u form, and not a half-ass server at all.

its also possible it uses a new system controller to facilitate the use of the ECC memory.

The new Xserver's are damn sexy.

Wish I had a use, and the $$$, for a rack full of them :D

powermac G5s will be switching to .09 within the month, im betting. Perhaps on the day of the 20th anniversary.

the pmac g5 whitepaper has be updated to reflect a .09 G5 processor. :)

Too bad they arent using SSOI to produce these chips yet to help out with power leakage. Thats what I was looking for in the .09 process. Hopefully IBM will have that ready in the dt G5.
