New xbox 360 revision?

It's not a new board revision - just a new heatsink they're tacking on. It's unlikely it'll really solve the RRoD issues, but it should reduce them somewhat. Either way, it's a step in the right direction.

free xbox live gold or silver gets to play online but only on weekends. taht though, might kill the gold cuz if you can play online on weekends you probably won't pay to play the other 5 days but .. some people would. Then again, they could hold tournaments on weekdays to keep people interested in live gold.

sensible pricing? I know alot of people think the 6 dollars for 3 songs of gh2 is fine but I find it rather expensive.

disable region stuff, like make it region free for games and video/dvd/hddvds and other such things. I don't get why they did it in the first place >.>

Just my thoughts on good steps to take.

We were talking about fixing the hardware issues with the 360. Modifying software isn't going to help with that.

The underlying issue, or so it's claimed, are the x-clamps causing the board to warp when it gets too hot. I found this hard to believe at first, but I suppose the proof is in the pudding:

MS can't do that. In order to have the technology licensed, they have to make their players region-specific. Of course, games are a completely different deal, but with DVDs and HD-DVDs, they HAVE to make it for a certain region. They don't have a choice.

They need more active cooling than passive. Passive cooling in the xbox will only just take longer to heat up and then the copper is good at conducting heat but its not as great as aluminum to dissapate heat so the copper will stay heated thus causing the whole box to overheat still. What they need is a way of getting the heat out of the box more efficiently with that type of heatsink with the copper heat pipes so we wouldn't see dieing 360s. They should make the xbox where it had ventilation holes when its sitting horizontally on the top so all the heat would rise plus a big fan but spinning slow so we wouldn't hear any type of whinning sound. Its only then we would actually see any difference in these heat type issues ;).

Oh well, I was talking about steps in the right direction, which I was thinking not limited to hardware. I guess I misunderstood that. As for what I said, its just things I'd like to see personally, I don't know how much they can do or not.

What I'm getting at is with this combined with the natural progression to a smaller process for the gpu and cpu what else can microsoft really do hardware wise? perhaps it will solve the problem but if not, perhaps a form factor revision will be required...
