New Western Digital N900 router+NAS

I thought the step down My Net N900 was more appealing. Mostly because of the extra gig ports though. You could just plug a 3tb external drive into one of the USB ports if you really want your router to be a NAS also.

I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed in the speed that pcper saw. I was going to guess that it was about as fast as their WD Live Hub. My live hub maxes out at about 10-12 MB/s despite it having a gigabit port. This looks like the N900 maxes out at 15-20 MB/s. That's just too slow for me. I might be a little spoiled by my Synology DS1512+ though.

I thought their new My Net Switch was pretty cool. Just an 8 port gig switch, but with some sort of traffic prioritization based on which port you use. Kinda neat.

Call me an A$$, but i think it's the stupidest idea to put a HDD inside a router.

Unless they put some kind of fan inside to remove the warm air, then ( yuk )
Unless they put some kinda door on it to remove the drive easily then (yuk)

There is a fan and vents. And re: door, I already said I'd prefer a BYOD (Bring Your Own Disk) version. If it's not BYOD, there's no reason to make it user-serviceable.

Like I said, if there is no way to take the hdd out easily to replace or with hold your data even on a failed hdd, this unit sucks,

The original apple airport, was awesome USB port for a external hard drive or printer. The new one blows it's hdd is packed insid and not easy to get out.

To bad apple didn't make the unit with 2-3 USB 3.0 ports and cal it a day, thn a user can put any hard drive on the unit..
