New to this section of the forums and been just poking around, reading new and old posts and trying to configure a new computer for my mom. Mainly it is just web browsing, e-mails, some documents and the now and then movie previews.
Nothing intensive in terms of graphics or raw horsepower, I am trying to keep costs low and would like to keep the power draw at a minimum, also want to use DVI since she recently got a 22" widescreen.

On to the rig:
I am thinking of getting these parts to build for her new pc, so if anyone can help shave some cost down or know if these would be good parts to get I am all ears. :D

Vista Home Premium: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116488

Now I know I can save a couple bucks by swapping ram to Corsair 2Gb, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034 , but being Vista I want to make sure it is not sluggish, I already have an ATI 2600 Pro PCI-E and evga 8400GS PCI-E video cards incase the onboard is not enough.

Thanks for all the help. :)

May I suggest something that cost $290 (buy.com), looks that puppy eyes can't beat and has your DVI port:

Even has a matching keyboard and mouse.

I have 2 GB of RAM in my laptop and it doesn't run Vista sluggish at all. It has a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo

I think I am just going to drop the cpu down to a dual core pentium 2.2 Ghz, still not sure if I should drop the ram thought from 4 to 2gb though.

Thanks for your help mrmylanman

Although the choice is up to you I would suggest sticking with a Core 2 Duo because it's my understanding that they run cooler, in addition to having a new architecture that makes it faster.

If you're looking to save some money I'd buy less RAM up front (say one stick instead of two) then buy more RAM as you see fit.

The processor is a more expensive upgrade down the road.

That's just my two cents.

I've got 2GB RAM, and am running Vista. Nothing I've used has been bottlenecked by my RAM as of now.
