The Sentencing Council for England and Wales are proposing a new set of sentencing guidelines that will result in stiffer penalties for young offenders that deliberately brag about their crime on social media.

The guidelines also take into account how offending has changed in the years since the existing guideline was introduced in 2009, such as how technological developments have influenced offending. For example, among the aggravating factors included in the proposed guideline are the blackmail or humiliation of victims by offenders filming offences or sharing photos and videos online and via social media.

I didn't see what you were talking about in that article Steve.

I did see references to youths either;

the blackmail or humiliation of victims by offenders filming offenses or sharing photos and videos online and via social media.

and

the sexual offences guideline takes into account the use of technology in offending and as well as the aggravating factor of filming or photographing offences and sharing this material on the internet, online grooming is also included as an aggravating factor.

This doesn't sound like bragging about something you did in social media as much as actually filming the offense itself and posting it, and that is listed here as specific to sexual offenses.

Is it safe to say they're trying to discourage kids from posting video of their shenanigans?
