Just read on another forum, that they are speaking to a Samsung rep and they are already working on increasing peak brightness for the next firmware update.

Samsung engineers sound super incompetent and the entire firmware/HDR performance surrounding this monitor is just baffling.

I have a feeling this monitor was just not tested at all after finishing the R&D and manufacturing of it. I get this feeling they said, just push it to the market and we will fix it later through firmware.

Maybe a classic case of:

Management: "We need to release it now because fiscal quarters and investors!"
Developers: "It's not ready, we still need to fix X and Y"
Management: "It's ready, just fix it later"

A story as old as COBOL.

I will be curious to see how well Acer does with the firmware and electronics of their monitor with the same panel.

Neo G9 is $500 off right now.

Tempting but I can't deal with dead pixels or DSE. It's just too damn big to return this thing.

Regular G9 is also $500 off. That would make a mighty fine programming monitor.

Ya I almost pulled the trigger last night seeing as with military discount I can get the Neo out the door for $1,880 right now.

While it would look epic on my desk, a few things are holding me back:

1. Fish eye effect in most games, which I absolutely loathe.
2. RTings tested the latest firmware and basically doesn't meet even the HDR1000 standard.
3. They tested it as having one of the slowest full pixel transition speeds of any 240 Hz monitor.
4. My main game is BF2042, and even the fastest CPU's max out around 120 FPS making a 240 Hz monitor for that game rather pointless.

I bought another since the sale @ $1649 with .edu discount makes it irresistible. It is still to me IMO the best overall PC monitor available so lets hope no DSE this time around. There really is nothing that comes close in terms of contrast and pixel response (if you can stomach a tiny bit of overshoot).

1440p sucks coming from 4K but for strictly shooters its fine.

1440 pee is gross.....I mean shit I just sent the X38 packin as 1600pee is too dated. If your gonna spend $2500 may as well save up and get a real monitor...PG32UQX

Wake me up when we got a curved 38" 5120 x 2160 2000+ MiniLed Fald Zone, HDR 2000+, 175+hz display

Well fuck me sideways, I guess I'm eating crow on this post as the black friday sale price sucked me in harder than an amsterdamian red light window girl!

Well I'll only be eating crow if I keep it as its got some stiff competition for my affections from the PeeGeez32

1. You only need one eye to play....either close one eye or get an eyepatch.
2. Wait until Linus expansion is completed and then you will be able to know exact celsius on a hot stormy sunny cloudy day
3. Your suppose to blink your one eye in rapid succession while playing inorder to kick in natures BFI
4. Lets go brandon!

Typically reducing FOV by like 10 eliminates the fish eye. I don't think you guys can tolerate the drop from 4K to 1440p. It looks pretty soft and gross unless you really embrace the monitors other benefits over the low resolution.

I tried the X38 and sent it back. 1600pee was tolerable, and form factor was awesome. However, BLB, lack of fald, shitty contrast ratios, and lame HDR400 made it a no go.

I just tried a G7 240hz 1440pee and was pleasantly surprised how fun it was on older shooters like Halo Reach and Battlefield 4. Despite the lower resolution vs 4k its motion clarity was awesome and I almost kept it. However, BLB, lack of Fald and lame HDR made it a no go.

My main rig has the PG32 & PG27 Falds on it for work productivity and gaming.....currently my backup 3090rtx rig has no monitor so am hoping this NEO fills the gap for older FPS like halo reach/H2A/H3 in HDR, BF4 and some BF2042 when I want a wider expanse and better motion clarity than PGs...oh and also for wide asian pron!

Got it in yesterday, upgraded to 1.08 firmware. No cracked screen, no dead pixels, looks like I have a perfect unit!

My thoughts so far:

1) HDR: Waaaay Less intense HDR, but also way less halo'ing issues vs PG32UQX. I personally prefer the eye watering, eyebrow searing 1600+ nits HDR experience of the PG32. However, this NEO HDR is miles and miles better than all of the non fald HDR 400 & HDR 600 gaming displays out there. I would say this is my second favorite fald experience....PG32 >>>>> NEO >>>>>> PG27

2) RESOLUTION: I'm having a hard time with 1440 pee coming down from 4k. A lot of superficial fine detail is lost in modern games like BF2042. 1440p is tolerable but just not crispy crisp enough for me on newer games. Older games like Halo Reach is pretty damn epic on this NEO as your getting the full 240hz benefit. I also enjoy the new Halo Infinity on this NEO....actually I would say this IS THE definitive halo monitor if your into Halo multiplayer, which I am.

3) COLORS: Colors are GREAT! Way better than the G7 that I just sent back. This display is the second best gaming display as far as colors go....the first being the PG32UQX. IMHO this NEO blows away the X38 and G7 in the color department....its good, real good....but still nothing tops the King of Colors PG32.

4) CONTRAST: Contrast is EXCELLENT, probably this displays strongest picture quality feature. Absolutely destroys the X38 in contrast....IMHO It even supersedes the PG32 in this regards, but at the cost of lesser HDR pop intensity vs the PeeGeez.

5) MOTION CLARITY: One of this displays strong features as long as you can maintain close to max 240hz, which you won't unless your playing Halo MCC, Counterstrike or BF4 lmao.

6) FORM FACTOR: The super wide is this displays greatest draw.....and also its greatest detraction IMHO. Many games just are not designed to handle wide screen, let alone SUPER WIDESCREEN.....so the fish eye effect is absolutely an issue and may ultimately be the bigger deal breaker than lowly 1440peee.

7) NON GAMING: I would put out my eyes and hang myself by my genatalia if I had to use this as a primary work productivity and or web surfing pron viewing display. 1440pee is too dated IMHO once you have used high refresh rate 4k display for those things.

So basically....do I keep this thing to play halo on the second rig LMAO.

IMO what makes it the best PC monitor overall is it's contrast + motion clarity. It's contrast is that of a flagship VA TV while not being far off a OLED in motion clarity at 120hz and surpassing it above that albeit with some very very minor overshoot that goes unnoticed 98% of the time (and I'm super sensitive to overshoot). If they could pump HDR highlights just a bit more it would be the undisputed best monitor but it's an acceptable compromise when it's outperforming a PG32UQX in contrast and motion clarity by massive amounts and by that I mean it's literally 3x as clear in motion to my eye and actually produces black in dark content.

Put them side to side and see for yourself. The PG32UQX is unacceptably smeary to the point that it's intolerable to me. Also when I did lots of HDR comparisons, I found the same scenario play out between OLED and HDR monitors. The Samsung doesn't get as bright with highlights but it being capable of 3x the contrast ratio offsets it quite a bit. I dunno, I just think most HDR game content on PC doesn't really benefit much from beyond 1000nits ATM. That "eye searing" brightness you're referring to rarely manifests in highlights and is more the fact that it can do 50% windows at 1200nits (entire skybox) which gives the perception of crazy brightness.

I dunno, I'm more impressed with HDR in contrasty situations with lots of highlights surrounded by dark. Something like Farcry 6 where a PG32UQX just has to flex 1200nits full field is kind of superficial to me, yeah it's brighter but not really to any benefit for me.

Too bad they didn't make it 3840x1600. IMO that is far more usable for more games than two 27" 1440p monitors side by side worth of screen real estate. Just too small and too low vertical resolution for highly detailed games like BF2042 where you are engaging people 200-300+ meters out routinely.

I do have them side by side.....I just can't 1440pee. The ultra wide is nice, the motion clarity is nice on games that can hit over 200fps....but every time I think the NEO is a keeper I jump back on my Peegee32 rig and am just blown away at 4k + 1600nits

The NEO is not a bad display....it has its moments....but everybody has their preferences of what drawbacks they are willing to take. 1440pee anything just is not for me.

No denying 1440p sucks, far more so for me in games. Mid/distant geometry and objects look super blurry compared to 4K.

EDIT: BTW this is what the monitor is reporting to the DisplayHDR app which is accurate to my eyes using HDR Dynamic mode. I don't even think it's capable of 2000nits on a test slide anymore after the latest firmware update. There's false advertising and then there's Samsung advertising 2000nits but barely achieving half that.

I have a love hate relationship with this display. I dont think ill keep it, but I have another month to play with it and make up my mind. If HDR could be livened up I might consider keepin.

The form factor is awesome, 240hz is awesome, Colors & contrast are great...its a ton of fun for older shooters....only thing holding it back from being good for modern shooters is I can't tell if its HDR is getting washed out or weak lol.

Colors are much more impressive on desktop with HDR OFF than they are IN GAME with HDR ON.

This reminds me of how shitty windows 10 was with HDR being washed out when it was new.

Ive got the latest firmware update...running HDR dynamic as it seems to be better than other HDR setting. Im running it with VRR off and adaptive sync OFF.

Im gaming on windows 10 with an RTX 3090.

Cali, is this the same for you?

What local dimming setting are you using? 1008 firmware broke gamma in SDR when using local dimming high so you have to set it to auto. Some people have reported washed out HDR but I'm not experiencing that. Forza Horizen 6, Doom Eternal, Valhalla all look as they should.

I'm using a 3090 too and have no problems. If all else fails downgrade to 1007 and see if it's improved but before that try pulling power because that's what Samsung instructs you to do after firmware update.

FYI 1007's EOTF is really bad which is what 1008 improves but to me it's still pretty bad (dark stuff is too dark and bright stuff is too bright). They have been on a 1 month release cycle for firmware releases so 1009 should come any day now and hopefully bring further improvements.

I had it on high, put it back to auto....seems better.

As far as 27" 1440pee gaming style monitors go its def the King. 240hz + Quantom colors + all those diming zones makes for a nice gamey display.

Im torn with it, but I bought it from Best Renta Buy in the event I decide to return it, it will be easy peasy to return. I have the month of december to play with it and decide...hopefully they release another firmware in that time that lets us juice up the HDR to brighter intensity levels....as you said some posts back, they should let us choose the intensity and deal with blooming if we want too.

:D updated the firmware. what settings are you running on the monitor? Anything specific you recommend changing to get the 'best' experience? First ultrawide - enjoying it so far. lel
