New RTX 2070 or used GTX 1080TI?

I know the difference in performance is around 10%-20% faster for the GTX1080TI according to the [H]ardOCP article I read. I see GTX 1080ti for sale on Ebay (Used) for around $500 plus shipping, give or take $10-15. I can get a RTX2070 for $479 on Newegg with rebate.

Which way would you go? (Pairing with a Ryzen 1700 - which will be upgraded to the new Ryzen when it comes out).

Currently use a Vega56.

I'd sell the Vega 56 & buy a Radeon VII. Unless you're still holding out on Ray Tracing.

I would wait and see what the verdict on the Radeon VII is, however, you shouldn't buy a 2070 at all if possible. Get the 1080Ti in that scenario. I don't necessarily think the Radeon VII will be as consistently good as a1080Ti, it will probably win some benches and loose others to it. The Radeon VII will really shine as a Professional Content Creation card for people with a high end video card budget 700 bucks instead of 3000.

I could be wrong about the Radeon 7.

I'm on a 2080Ti, I say stay away from the 2000 series for a while longer (i have had a boat load of problems, I'm on my third card and still having issues). Too much uncertainty there at the moment as to you getting a lemon or not.
 
I don't think spending $500 dollars on a two and a half year old used piece of hardware that possibly doesn't have a warranty is a good move. I would wait for Radeon 7 reviews, then make your choice.
 
For $500, I"d get the 1080Ti.

Vega VII is a waste of money.
 
1080 Ti is faster at the moment but it's also a couple years old now. 2070 might have better driver support. It's a tough pick but I'd probably go with the 2070 since I like new and shiny things.
 
1080TI all day long. The 1080ti performs nearly identical to the 2080, as you noted it is considerably faster than the 2070.

1080Ti is right in the middle of 2070 and 2080 so if it performs "nearly identical to the 2080" then it also perform nearly identical to 2070 also :ROFLMAO:
 
You can either find a used under warranty 1080 TI that should last you for a few years or...Play the waiting game.

One side says "Wait for AMD it should only be 6 months to a year and a half, but it will beat the pants off of all things Nvidia!" then the other side says "Might as well wait for Nvidia, if the past means anything then AMD will compete with Nvidia 2 years after release" and finally "AMD, well wait for the next next release that will be $250 with TI/TItan level performance, in 202X".

Anyways that is what I get from fanboys at either side.

Now I would recommend keeping the Vega 56, I do not know what resolution you are gaming at or what hertz you are shooting for. You also do not mention if you are using a Freesync or Gsync monitor. So you might get an FPS increase but at 1080@60Hz, it really wont make much of a difference.

Something tells me most reviews see the 1080ti and 2080 performing literally within the margin of error.
