Annd they offer shipping to me now... BITING
I just bought one from Best Buy tonight.
It has a WD RED NAS Hard Drive inside as expected.
Dated April 21, 2017.
Made in China.
I destroyed the crap out of my clips so there's no going back for warranty. Don't use a butter knife, or if you do, do it more gracefully than I did. Frankly I have no ideas how you could get this off without breaking them. I busted 2 of 4 and the remaining two look mangled.

My understanding is that with this drive WD doesn't give a fuck. If it dies you send the bad drive.I just bought one from Best Buy tonight.

I hope that's right - I read somewhere they had different serial number designations for the external enclosures -- vs. drives sold retail for internal drives. My understanding is that with this drive WD doesn't give a fuck. If it dies you send the bad drive.
that would make sense, since the warranty on red drives is, I think, 3 years and these have a 2 year warranty.I hope that's right - I read somewhere they had different serial number designations for the external enclosures -- vs. drives sold retail for internal drives.
Thanks for reposting this. There's the PDF linked with instructions... shoulda took a look. https://hardforum.com/threads/180-8...-wd-red-inside.1930595/page-3#post-1042985422
Maybe OP should put it in the 1st post to make it easier to find?
It took me a little patience with the first one, then once you figure it out it's simple.
You can use a credit card cut into two (or two different credit cards) and something else after to use to wedge it out. It didn't even really damage the cards at all either but I had some around that I didn't care about ruining. I then packaged everything back up in the retail box, without fully assembling, to make it easy to pop in later if needed for warranty.
These from my understanding are more or less relabeled HGST He drives, and all HGST HDD manufacturing is done in China.
Is the Geek Squad protection plan worth anything? I've heard the WD warranty process is less than stellar (no personal experience with it [lucky in that regard]).
There is something to be said for walking into a brick and mortar with your broken drive and walking out with a new one (per $20 Geek Squad warranty).
More likely they won't have the same product (8TB easystore w/RED inside) and you might have to accept whatever they do have which may or may not be better. It appears this "easystore" is a Best Buy exclusive which is also probably a limited availability type product.

Yes, this is the key. I followed Hanime's instructions about where to insert the cards and to press hard but the clips were not releasing. So I flexed one of the cards outward while pressing inwards hard until I felt it slip past the bump and bottom out. Did that for the other three clips and then followed the rest of his instructions. It was still a bitch to get open but I managed to get both drives out of their shells with no damage. For a snap-together enclosure, that thing is really well made! Thanks for reposting this.
For those that may struggle with this, you shove the CC in the spots specified, then flex them until it pops up. you don't need to cut them into guitar pick sized/shaped pieces. I used full CC/Gift Cards and it worked like a charm.
Shucked two more tonight. Piece of cake. Now time to give my wallet a rest....
If only wallets were like muscles and got bigger the more that you used them...
It'll likely go away on it's own. Holds typically last a few days to a week.Okay I'm kind of seriously regretting getting in on this. First time around my credit card detected it as fraud and then when I cleared it Best Buy cancelled it anyway and the deal was just off. The charge is by the way still pending on my credit card so who the hell knows when BB will randomly finally decide to clear the thing. Next time when doing the shipping options today I noticed they had it at a location close to me. Okay so I choose that and it says that it should be available today or tomorrow. Get order confirmation and then check the status, it says NEXT SATURDAY. What the hell? Try to make changes and change it from pickup to shipping... nope, can't do that.
I want to contact them via some sort of web form or email but it's kind of funny, their web site's contact us section doesn't actually have any way of contacting them. I guess I'll have to try calling them. I can already imagine the pain. What a mess.
I know that, I'm just pissed about how they said I could pick it up in store TODAY and then randomly flipped that over to NEXT SATURDAY with no warning, and then the icing on the cake is that I now can't cancel or change the order in any way. I tried changing it to ship to me, but nope. Get to confirmation but the system won't allow it. Hmmm... I wonder why I usually buy from almost anywhere else, huh...It'll likely go away on it's own. However, the deal is still on http://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-easy...-3-0-hard-drive-black/5792401.p?skuId=5792401
Call them, stop being a bitch.
Just picked one up...listed as "free two day shipping" until I put in my address..now it's about 10 days out. Good thing I'm not in a hurry.
I had the same thing. It was much faster to have it shipped to store and pick up in person.
I hate driving.
So that's why you stole your own car...you took it away from yourself so you wouldn't have to drive
Just noticed that the drive I picked up earlier in the week is a WD80EFAX where the others were WD80EFZX.Some people are getting 8tb reds with double the cache to 256mb. Wonder why the change.
Specifically these shucked drives show up with model #WD80EFAX vs standard WD80EFZX
