New NEC 3550 DVD Burner

Has anyone heard anything good or bad on this new NEC 3550 DVD drive? It looks like it's just an update to the 3540, but more information would be nice to have.

From what I can dig up, it's a 3540 except constructed without using any Lead, so that it complies with recycling laws coming into effect in 2006.

So, would these both be using the same controller chip? I read people on cdfreaks saying that the 50 gave better burns and the 40 gave better reads. I would think that more would have been changed, if that was the case.
