Well the CRS226-24G-2S+IN is on their website now. Hopefully the distributors will have their hands on them soon.

Has anyone had a chance to play with their CRS series yet? They are marketed as a "layer 3 switch" but looking at the block diagram it looks more like a "smart switch". Sure, they can do L3 routing, but with such a weak processor I doubt you would get great performance through it.

The switch chip handles the vlan tags and everything so that'll be wire speed but it looks like the L3 functions would be routed through the processor.

Still think it would be great for an access switch 99% of the time. 10Gb in 24Gbe out and another 10Gb to go to the next switch. Sounds like a SMB or home use dream.

The speed of the L3 routing is questionable. If they use anything like CEF the routing information is stored in RAM tables and can be switched at basically line speed. Now if they have to process each packet then it could be a bottleneck.

They don't have any tech specs on routed PPS?

we are using a pair of those cloud core routers (I think its 8 or 12 GbE and 2x SFP+) running EBGP/IBGP on some gigabit wans and they don't break a sweat... we have been very happy with them
