New Macbooks on the horizon - finally!

These things must scream. Wish I could justify a $2000+ notebook, but I can't even really justify any notebook at this point in my life.

I'm disappointed that the 13" isn't getting the Core i5. I'm guessing, and hoping, that with the next hardware refresh they'll get them. Either way it's fine by me, for now, because I can hold off on getting a new one. :)

At least the 13" now has 48sp (more than 8600m GT or 9600m GT). Only problem is that its shared memory. Good thing 4GB is now standard.

I was really hoping for the i3 in the 13" models but I guess its not ready yet. I think I'll wait a bit longer. My mini is still fresh.

These things look nice... wish I had the extra cash laying around to pick one up :(... if only Apple took first-born as payment, then I could get one, lol j/k

Why can't Apple put out a 15" 1920x1200 screen, is it really that hard...especially when they they're charging $2300 for it, really don't want to lug a 17" around to get that res.

hmm I wish the higher end processors offered this time were actualy quad core but I guess dual core all around for better battery life is what they were aiming for :\

Well, if you find a manufacturer that will make that monitor to a cost, I'm sure Apple would consider it. I don't think there is one panel manufacturer let alone a laptop manufacturer that has a 15" 1920x1200 monitor.

Then the display in my friends Dell from 2006 doesn't exist?... Dell, HP, Alienware, Sager, etc.. all have used 19x12 15" displays for 4 years now..

People were modding these displays into some models of MBP's as far back as then also...

They certainly exist, lots of maker actually, but Apple probably thinks the usability is worse or something.

Dell actually does 15" 1920x1200. My buddy got one with that res.

Edit: They used to, now it's 1080p.

I haven't seen a 15.4" 1920x1200 laptop LCD since Dell's Inspiron 8600 line. I tried that screen and loved it for about 2 weeks. Then, I started getting headaches/eyestrain from so much squinting.

I sold my MBP today so just have to wait 'til Amazon gets the new models.

EDIT: Amazon has the new MBPs, but only the 1440x900, not the 1680x1050.

1680x1050 is a BTO only as far as I can tell.

that was quicker than expected.

the higher res model is BTO only, so it won't be showing up on amazon.

(if i'm wrong let me know, because i already ordered a base 15" w/ higher res...wouldn't mind getting tax back)

Indeed. The very first Dell XPS laptop (2004), with a P4 and 9800 pro had a 1920x1200 screen. Its not like these things are exactly new or running up against pixel density barriers...

I'd love to upgrade to the 15" over my current 2007 model. Alas, I need money to do so and CS5 and a Wacom are higher priorites right now, not to mention cheaper.

I went ahead and ordered the 2.4GHz i5, Hi-Rez LCD today. My little brother used his college educational discount, so I got it for $1932 shipped. I scored $1200 for my sold MBP (ya gotta love those eBayers who can't wait to over pay for used Apple stuff) and $130 for the Deck keyboard I returned, so my net cost was right about $600. For that 1680x1050 screen, i5 and new Nvidia graphics card, I'll take it!! :D

Fixed :p

Any chance that the antiglare option has been changed to black plastic to mimic the glossy version, or is it that horrid-looking gray bezel?

Saw an anti-glare 17 in store today that had the gray/silver ugly bezel today.

They had none of the 15" 16x10 screens though, obviously cause it's BTO, but it would have been nice to check out.
